A FUCKING TREE JUST FELL ON MY HOUSE. What to do? I called the insurance company, then the cutters, and they all say it'll be fine. But what do in the meantime?
>>1100555
Good luck getting compensation on your "act of god"
Insurance companies love to take your money and then weasel out any time they are actually needed.
>>1100555
It's getting ready to rain a couple inches before they get here.

I don't have garbage insurance, they're covering it. Was just looking to talk to fellow home owners that have been there.
I am wanting to get into a hobby and making steam powered stuff really tickles my fancy.
I was wondering if a 55gal drum could be used as a boiler in a fire tube like in pic related.
I wouldn't know how much pressure they can take.
Any other ideas? Idk just trying to run a parts tally.
>>1098377
What are you going to be doing for the furnace/fuel? That will play a big role in if the steel drum is good enough.
>>1098384
Most likely finding a second hand wood stove. Maybe a pellet stove as they are more common where I live.
It better be super low pressure. Drums can't handle much pressure.
Let's have a lockpicking thread. Post projects, stories, questions, advice, etc.
I used to go to a lockpicking club on occasion and I enjoyed myself even though my skillset stayed very basic (I went maybe 5 times total). Eventually, the club disbanded and I moved out of town. I've been wanting to get back into it and eventually actually git gud: what tools and practice locks should I acquire? I was looking at pic reated, the pick set from TOOOL, but I've also had Peterson picks recommended to me.
Peterson won't sell to you directly so you'd have to find another site
>>1095506
get a sparrow set, they are cheap and sell to individuals. Don't go crazy either, get the basic bitch set until you progress
first practice on padlocks, you can buy master #3 for cheap. get comfortable with single pin picking, raking, and shimming.
then move on from there, look up bosnianbill on youtube. He will teach you everything that you need to know
>>1095506
Here's my set.
Had to order it after my tenants decided they wanted to give me a blank key for their room. After changing the deadbolt locks they were shocked to see their room was open with a screwdriver and a new doorknob sitting on their bed.
I'm not pro, but I can get a door within a few mins.
I recently came into possession of 2 to 3 lbs of gold and want to reform it for sale. What equipment, techniques and final form would be best to use to get the best and quickest sale in its new form?
what form is it currently in?
>>1094711
I'm not sure if they're all going to melt at the same temperatures or combine properly if they're from various peices of jewelry and what not. Also you probably shouldn't steal peoples gold that's not cool bro.

Flakes. In a bucket, but could be moved into anything

>Its ok if I use a piece of metal from a train station as an anvil?
How can I refine even more the blade of the knife? something like a mirror finish
come on man, at least put some effort into it
So I got a 2 lb candy cane.. I really don't want to eat that much candy cane or throw it out. Anything I can do with it? (Pic unrelated)
>>1105878
crush it and use some in cakes / muffins / baked goods.
put some in hot chocolate
or crush it and snort it
Use it as fuel.
cmon now, if you're here you know exactly what to do with it
Where is a good place to buy viynl material? Im making a center console for my truck. My seats are red viynl. I want it to match somewhat. Price friendly is great.
>>1105863
Have you tried a local automotive upholstery shop?
>>1105863
I used to buy this at a local fabric store.
Occasionally a local flea-market would have rolls.

Greetings,
My recessed lights keep falling. No matter how much I turn it to stay up, it would not. I tried bending some of those metal clips out but problem is that there is nothing for the metal clip to hang up
Anyone know how to solve this issue?
Thanks,
normally there are clips on the light that grip the housing. It looks like yours doesnt have them. Are they broken off?
Hello /diy/
First time poster to this board
I'm fairly mechanically inclined with access to a good amount of equipment
My home was recently victimized by an attempted break in while I was gone
Looking for any and all tips, methods, projects, or creations to help aid in home security.
I'm headed to work right now so I will check what you all have to say after
>>1105585
Get a gun. Problem solved.
But solid doors and put bars on your windows.
Those are your 2 options.
If your not home and someone REALLY wants to get in they are going to get it in.
buy a dog
and curtains
You should go ask /k/.
Dragon dildos. Lots of dragon dildos.
Alright guys, just pulled up some tile flooring in my basement and I'm onto this adhesive now. The plan is to level out the floor so I can put down an underlay and subsequently some wood snap together flooring. My question is, what's the best way to remove this adhesive?
>>1105575
That is like asking whats the best way to remove your fingers. There are many ways. None of them are easy or pleasant.
Heat, chemicals, power scrapers, the list goes on. Either way you are looking at a day of hell.
>>1105575
Propane touch and a putty knife...
Good luck...
>>1105575
disc grinder
or
concrete polisher with a fuckme grit
What is this hole?
The absolute state of /diy/
>>1105562
Where a cable used to go, I'd hazard.
What about this stain?
Anybody own one? I'm looking for an entry level CNC mill for assorted projects. Would I be better off buying a more advanced one used on craigslist/kijiji?
>>1105545
This looks like meme garbage and is not a mill.
>>1105545
An entry level mill is a $600 hobo fright mini mill or an old $1200 Bridgeport on Craigslist
Add some stepper motors and some drivers/brain box and you've got a fully functional cnc for under $2000
>>1105570
the guys who laud the HF mills/lathes are right in that if you rebuild the whole thing and replace all the plastic parts, you get a dope little machine.
but the amount of money/time you spend doing it, you would have been better off with that 50 year old bridgeport.
My uncle handed me these plans and told me to build this....
I've never built anything more complicated then a fence. This bocce ball court is on a slope, It wouldn't be a problem if there wasn't a slope I need to compensate for.
I wanted to just grade the whole damn site but he says if I do that it won't drain properly. He also gave me a transit and told me to shoot it.
>I don't know how to even begin building this.
>does anyone have any resources that could help me?
This is the Job site
This is basically what it would look like.
>>1105543
level site and plate compact ground to existing slope
dig hole for posts
put 4x4 into hole then pour concrete
put on 2x12 plates
put on side panels
put on first layer of rock
put in drain pipe with fabric wrap
compact the rock
put on filter fabric over rock
put on second layer of rock
compact
put on wire
put on gravel and oyster mix and compact
compact
cap side panels
roll around on ground
piss to mark territory
done
Hi /diy/, Britfag here, I recently became interested in the idea of making some leather boots maybe like the ones in the picture but I would be open to suggestion. Meant for walking and hiking about.
Already got a general idea of what I need to do from youtube videos and other such sources. No experiece with shoe building or repair so any information tutorials infographics, ect would be great.
Mainly what I need is to find what kind of leather I need and were to get it, have had trouble finding info on that.
My budget would be right around £50 but I've no idea if that is resonable or not.
Thanks in advance.
Baby steps anon, go find some nice used leather boots that need some TLC first and fix them up nice, might actually be do-able for 50 pounds.
Otherwise if you want to make them, learn basic leather work skills first.
>>1105513
>No experiece with shoe building or repair
I have a feeling this is not something someone should /diy/ without having some level of experience with, or without knowing someone who is
I would predict the results would be far below expectations and end up costing more than just buying a pair
>>1105521
Probably but it still be a fun worth while project which may eventually lead to something worth the effort.
