Good day any beard oil lads out there? I use quite a few different beard grooming items. They are fantastic but I am looking into purchasing oils and making my own beard oils with intent to distribute and sell.

Anybody make their own?

Never tried it myself, but look into extraxting essential oils, and get some ideas of what oils you like in your face mane. Personally i like lemongrass.

How many of you actually have friends interested in what you do?
>only 21 running my own business in Australia
>I basically have a fully equipped machine shop, two large manual milling machines, big 3 ton English DSG toolmakers lathe three phrase welders etc
>only a fraction of my friends do anything /diy/ related and the ones that do mainly just visit my workshop to borrow my hoist when they do their own oil changes/service their cars.

youre like the home schooled version of a machinist , i met all mine through work or trade school

model engineer groups are pretty avid machinists and do a lot of diy toos/machines, and they probably arent all pedophiles

Grandfather was a RAF fitter and turner that taught me everything up until he died, did an apprenticeship for three years which was alright aside from the stress and the fact that the only tafe that still did advanced machining was in a different state. ended up leaving a year before i finished my time and just working for myself.

>actually tried looking for local hobby groups but google didnt really help

Are you hiring?

so this dumbass kid locked himself out of his room, and instead of knocking on my door and asking me to open it for him, he decided it was better to break in and destroy the door in the process.

What is with kids these days? Is their first impulse to just break someone else's property?

And after he came home from work, he started trying to fix it himself, like I wouldn't notice that he bumfucked the whole door up.

I think I will wait until after he "fixes" it, and then tell him it will cost $534 out of his deposit to replace the door and lock hardware. maybe that will send a message.

And I will probably have to replace the carpet too, or at least shampoo it. he always wears his muddy ass boots inside and fucks up the carpet.

Rent by word of mouth and don't rent to young people. If you never advertise then you can make sure you get tenants you want.

Bill him for the damage and keep the deposit because if he stays and does more damage you won't be covered for that. Security deposits should be to compensate you when tenants flee without paying.

I've been a landlord and worked repair jobs for them. I never advertise rentals. You should be allowed complete discrimination where your property is concerned. You can have that if you are reasonably creative.
>>
>>1100248
If he actually does a good job replacing it, just drop it. No harm no foul.

If not, what this guy said >>1100255 send him the bill and don't pull it from his deposit.

Also $534 for a fucking door a new door knob? That's a little ridiculously overpriced don't you think? Don't be a rip off cockbag for the sake of "punishing" him.
>>
>>1100248
First of all. If hes old enough to rent a place. Hes not a kid. Second of all having a rental with carpet is your own fault and daily wear and tear isn't legally the renters deal its yours. Third that door doesn't cost 500+ dollars to replace. Its clearly a shitty aluminum clad foam cored crappy generic door.

Hey /diy/

I have a recently installed faucet leaking above the locknuts pictured. I used plumbers putty to attach the hard black plastic base gasket to the sink, but found that the lip on the gasket is less wide on one side than other areas, so it will not seat evenly. in this case, the left side is resting on the gasket, but the right jumps the gasket and sits on the counter. Will any amount of plumbers putty or silicone correct this or am I better off calling the manufacturer for another gasket?

>Will any amount of plumbers putty or silicone correct this or am I better off calling the manufacturer for another gasket?

its probably quicker to take it out and exchange it at the store. but yeah if the spacer is messed up, get a new one.
>>
who told you to put putty around those fittings? da fuck
>>
>>1109096
Thanks for the reply, I'm new to homeownership and obviously inexperienced regarding plumbing defects.

Unfortunately I don't have the receipt or live in the same area as the store I purchased it from, so I will go ahead and look for a replacement spacer.

Hello diy,

kitchen reno people seem to be extortionists so i was wondering how viable it is to make your own for someone with no experience? obviously id get someone to do the gas and electricity but i see the cabinets and shit as easy. id only be wall mounting one unit anyway since I hate high up cabinets. so really it would be putting together the benches and island right? yet they change 20k?

thanks for any input on this

Find a place that does just cabinets and get a quote and compare to what you would spend at ikea. It won't be much higher and you will get a better product.
You will need a place for the countertop.

Otherwise, yea go for.
>>

a lot of people told me just get an ikea kitchen and add a good countertop. theyre kitchens seem like shit quality though honestly.

another tging i was wondering, what about a kitchen made of brick?

About a year ago I built my first pc. Everything was fine. A few months later when computer was off I noticed cpu fan was running. Researched, tried everything blew mobo with canned air, reset computer, updated bios, put new thermal paste, temps were fine before 33c @ idle, contacted Msi and they said same thing I already did. The cpu fan is a stock intel cpu cooler. mobo is Msi H170 Gaming M3. Maybe one of you diy bros can help? pic unrelated.

>If your fans are running even after you've turned your computer off, the issue may be caused by a residual charge left on your motherboard. To troubleshoot this you will need to perform a cold boot. How can I fix? Is there something I can put so my wheels don't move side to side

Is that a nyloc nut?

did you even torque it down?

Did you just hand tighten it and say "fuck it, that's good. I'm gonna go smoke some weed ayylmao 420"
>>
Well clearly I said I'm new to the hobbie cuck so how bout some fucking advice I don't know what I'm doing
>>
>>1108803
get a socket or deep angle wrench and tighten it to the specified torque

alternatively tighten it down until it contacts the bearing and hope you don't crush the bearing.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but do you guys know if there is a way to turn off a hot water heater? The heat in my building is up way too high and I'd rather not have any than deal with this. I read something about turning the bottom valve but I don't want to fuck anything up because I'm renting this place

If anyone can help me I would be really grateful
21 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
that is a hot water radiator as opposed to a steam radiator. you can tell its hot water because the water flows in on the right and returns on the bottom left. top left is a bleed valve for air. Both of these are different than a hot water heater. in your basement you have a hot water heater that connects to a boiler/circulator which then circulates water through the pictured item.

some guy who knows about radiators will come along here and tell you not to touch it. he is correct.

but in reality it probably wont hurt anybody to give that valve on the bottom right a few turns to the right to slow the flow through that radiator. You can also just open a window. or call and ask the landlord. They are a hassle to screw with if it breaks. also if that is not your actual pictured radiator since its dated 2015 and you have a steam radiator I suggest you might not know whats going on and should leave it alone.
>>
Wrap it in a thick blanket.... should be a low enough temperature that there's no risk of fire, and the blanket will block the airflow keeping the room cooler.... i'm not an expert on these, but I don't think the one my water going back to the systems heater will cause a lot of problems.... he gets too cold uncover part of it
>>
>>1108800
dont listen to the other guy

the big bottom valve is the flow control, turn it all the way to the right (tighten it) will turn it off

the top one is for releasing air bubbles so dont touch it

the bottom one is for touching

Which components are what here? I am pretty sure the box next to the Powerwall is the inverter, and the bottom right component is the StorEdge interface, whatever the hell that is, but where is the charge controller and what is the line running up the wall to the far right?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1108701
big box to the left are the batteries. center top is the inverter/charger. center bottom is the main DC disconnect. top right is a standard AC load center. middle right is unknown. could be fuses, could be an expansion box. bottom right is a junction box for the incoming solar panels.
>>
>>1108708
googling tells me the right middle device is an autotransformer needed to run 120v loads off the powerwall. seems powerwalls are setup to output 240v only.
>>
What component in this setup stops utility-provided electricity from the grid from entering the system when the PV/Powerwall is able to provide?

Dearest /diy/kes,

A parent of mine decided to open a can of worms and investigate a leaking water line. Of course being 40 yo galvanized it's on death's door but not total shit atm. I'm debating whether to pay out the 1800$ bux for a near line to be run (probably sch. 40 pvc) but i've been reading about these pipe line restoration epoxies and was thinking about giving it a shot if they were much cheaper.

thoughts? anyone tried it?

**this is outside and would need about a 60-80ft trench, and it runs underneath a house with a 2-3 ft crawl space. Hence not being too excited to replace it entirely myself (maybe just the trenching)
>>
>>1108673
You don't bury sch40 sticks. It is bad to have joints in the ground. Use black polyethylene well pipe. No epoxies will fix and rusted pipe. If you don't want to replace the whole pipe dig up where the leak is, put a piece of rubber over the hole and a hose clamp on top to seal it. Will probably give you a few more years depending on the pipe's condition.
>>
>>1108719
no. you do bury schedule 40 pipe.

I have a plan, /diy/.

Basically I work in the ambulance business building and running wiring harnesses among other things. I want to start building my own wiring harness boards for cars and trucks with relays, switches, distributors, and etc and selling them. I live in a fairly rural area and there are many people who love modding their vehicles.

I'm wondering if it is a worthwhile investment. They're cheap to build but I think people might buy them to avoid having to make it on their own. I also feel like people may appreciate custom boards and maybe even some installation work.

I'm rolling this idea by you all because I believe in /diy/ and because many of you are very knowledgeable.

Thanks in advance, gentlemen. If you have any other ideas run them by me. I'm somewhat new to the diy vehicle mod trade.

So a frienday who I helped move gave me this computer. It was mostly together when I got it, but I wanted to more intimately get to know what I was doing when putting it together. I have already put it together but it did not connect to the monitor so I decided to get a better idea of what needed to be done. I tried Google, but after a bit of searching I realized that I needed a more hands on approach. I know this stuff isn't the best out there, but I do know that some of it was pretty good for its day. Please help me get this working and or lead me in the right direction of what I need to get it working. I basically just want to be able to play dark souls on pc so I can try out some mods and stuff Ive never been able to check out due to the limitations of playing on console. Tl;Dr please help put together for dark souls.
