And especially AliExpress. AliBaba if you're an actual business that wants warehouses filled.
AliExpress is a marketplace of Chinese crap resellers, basically eBay or Amazon for Chinese stores.
Of note is it actually has purchase protection that's saved me 300$ on a fraud tablet, and refunded me on headphones that were Xiaomi knockoffs.
It also gives you actual time sensitive purchase protection of "arrives within 30 days", or 60 during winter months lol
/g/ has a dedicated general for Chinese Crap sites, and AliExpress dominates conversation for a good reason.
Is there an opensource PCB on which I can run a minimal version of Linux? I don't need all the bells and whistles of the Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone. I'm looking at strippng away all unwanted components to have it made through 4pcb.
>>1098930
there's no way it will be cheaper than a pi zero
>>1098953
good luck finding one of those, though
So the company I used to work for was being bought out and closed down. They were throwing away millions of dollars worth of our equipment and parts so I managed to dumpster dive some of the gold coated parts they threw away.
I have many bags of parts but I'm not sure of the best way to separate the gold from the nonsense. So far I've been pulling the leads from the PCBs and connectors by hand and have seen many recipes to acid wash the gold off of them using anything from Muriatic Acid to simply using toilet bowl cleaner.
Anybody know what's the cheapest way to do this procedure? Thanks in advance.
Go look up cody's lab on YouTube
He has a bunch of videos on metal refining
Watch his entire playlist because he goes through many ways

You'll likely not make a profit, but that shouldn't stop you from trying. It'll be fun.
I work for a company that has some of that stuff in-house and even a hand-sized block only has a couple of dollars of gold at most. We're talking 10-30 microinches of gold.
Ok, so my shitty landlord is ordering a new water heater for my apartment, so I'm without hot water for several days. I've made a German-engineered water heater with things i had around the house. It's a stock pot on a single burner with a pump leading from the tub to a copper tubing coil in the pot and back out (now warmer) into the tub. It does ok, but it's a bit slow. Is there a liquid that heats better than water in the pot?
Mind you, I pretty much figured this much out as I went along.
>>1098432
I used to live in a place where we heated our "shower" water with a big pot-like thingie with fire under it. A kettle if you may. Then the whole family washed ourselves by just pouring water from a bucket.
It got really efficient quite easily. I could wash myself properly with soap, hair included, with approximately 12l of warm water. Just over a bucket full. I'm a bit of a fascist with this personal hygiene also so it always was a proper wash. I hate smelly people and don't want to be one.
Also I have dreads so the amount of soap that goes in my hair is a lot so with proper hair you will need less water.
Hi guys, do you know what is the usual price for 300cf cylinder of helium in Nevada? Or generally in the US?
I'm interested in technical grade helium, to inflate a weather ballon.. so I need it from some kind of hardware store, not a party supply store (those are too expensive). Do I usually buy the gas and rent the cylinder (return it after using)? Do they give me the valve with it?
I do not live in the US so it's not easy for me to find out and googling gave me mixed results.. thanks
I buy a lot of Helium (for technical diving). Usually you go to a welders supply and rent a tank. You pay a fixed amount for the Helium itself (it's expensive) and then a small amount per day for renting the tank.

Welders supply sounds good, can you tell me any rough estimate of the price?
Hi /diy/
Hope this is the correct board. Anyway I'll cut to the chase. I'm requesting someone to help me come up with my business name. My company that is all via word of mouth makes sound systems. Based in the U.K. These sound systems are free party's (raves) clubs and any music event in need of big loud speakers. Preferably the company name needs to end in 'audio' so something like 'stable audio' i dunno. But all idea appreciated. Many thanks /diy/
I started making these speakers by my self and now need to turn this diy project in to a company. All possible names are much appreciated. Apple is nothing to do with a iPhone...
So any names to go in front of 'Audio' are greatly appreciated. Many thanks

What the FUCK!?
We haven't found a remedy for this shit yet?
Luckily I'm tall, so most people can't see it, unless I'm sitting down or going downstairs first. I don't want to shave my head every 2-3 weeks, but I'm always wearing a hoodie or toboggan.
WTF /diy/?
I KNOW someone here has had SOME success.
Share dat shit!
The only things with any real evidence of "working" are propecia and minoxidil.
And then there's the usual implants / stem cell therapies which cost tens of thousands.
The rest is total snake oil.
I must say I used minox for 8 months with no results, didn't even slow the loss down.

Researched this when I started losing my hair as a teenager.
TLDR is if you take both ingested and topical medications every day for the rest of your life you have a chance (but no guarantee) of keeping the hair you have.
Doing this will cost you around $60k for the next 30 years.
I just said fuck it and shaved. Being shaved bald is acceptable now, it's not really a big deal. Some women even think it's sexy.
It's much better if you have some facial hair though. Not full on beard, just have some scruff so you have SOME hair on your head.
In order, what are the basic tools I need to buy to complete basic woodworking/carpentry projects.
Nothing fancy, stuff like a workbench, bookshelf, etc.
>>1096406
Table saw is the most versatile and essential power tool you can get for woodworking
Get one on craigslist, dont buy a shit tier one at the hardware store.
Find a 113 or 315 series Craftsman table saw for $100-150 and youll be golden
>>1096408
Crap I want a cheaper table saw. Craftsman and Ryobi both make a $150 table saw, but they feel really unstable and plastic.
>>1096406
a saw and some glue will get you through the most basic of projects
nails and hammer optional
if you have to ask, you shouldnt buy anything, just buy when u need it
So, its that time of year again

Hello again it is me again your favourite pliers you will never need
>>1095008
My family decided to forgo doing individual gifts, instead we'll be doing a dirty stanta/white elephant kind of game.
That means that my normal christmas budget gets to go to fun stuff.
Already Bought:
Hakko FX888D
Adafruit Metro
New Dremel
RasPi Zero
A bunch of electronic components
Monoprice Maker Select
Going to Buy:
Bench Power Supply
New Drill
All in all, probably one of the best Christmases yet. I wouldn't have saved the money had it not been for gifts, and then the turn around gave me a lot of free dough.
>>1095013
I actually thought about buying those for my brother who uses an adjustable wrench for literally everything. Terrible I know.
I think im gonna get him these screw extractor pliers. Made in Japan supposed to be bretty good.

>I'm new to electronics, where do I get started?
There are several good books and YouTube channels that are commonly recommended for beginners and those wanting to learn more, many with advanced techniques. The best way to get involved in electronics is just to make stuff. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.

This mostly comes down to personal preference. These are the most common ones though:

Is an Arduino Uno clone off of aliexpress going to give me a megavirus? Seems way cheaper to buy one of those instead of paying the other costs.
>>1094641
wtf is a megavirus plz
usually the only problems you're gonna have with clones is configuration oncompatibilities that should sort themselves out easily enough. look for forums where people discuss clones if it doesn't work out of the box.
>>1094641
Some of the cheaper ones don't come with an USB serial chip and need an extra USB TTL adapter to flash it.
Though you might want such an adapter anyway, they often come in handy.
New Welding thread! Last one died from lack of posting. New questions: What is the largest thing you have ever welded on, and what is your personal favorite process? >pic is my shitty not-welded robot
Well I'm certified unlimited thickness dual shield, but the thickest I've done is 3 inches full pen welds. They take days. I'm a huge fan of inner shield wires and I can put down beads that rival tig welds with .45
I mostly weld small stuff so nothing worth mentioning.
I'll probably be a fitter for a huge shipyard starting late spring though.
I'm still undecided if I prefer stick or TIG, I love them both for hugely different reasons. I also really like flux-core.
In short I just dislike MIG.
>>1085809
Inner shield? Do you mean FCAW?
Also what is dual shield? Is it like a slag weld+ gas?
I'm only a hobbyist welder but thickest I've done is 1/2" plate
Just did my first mig welding today when my crappy stick welder wasn't getting deep enough penetration
I need some ideas
I want to take my girlfriend out for a Christmas date but she doesn't wanna do ice skating anymore bc she fell and hurt herself
What do we do
do some research, find the 'rich' area where whole neighborhoods have put up great lights, drive around. Depending on weather, have a picnic or just some festive snacks, thermos of cocoa, etc or end the drive at the local downtown area with the big city tree and themed vendors around. Then go kill yourself for asking stupid obvious questions.

Take she raspberry pi 3.

where do you live?
Hey /diy/,
So im a poorfag who got his cousin a guitar for christmas. Since i couldn't afford a nice one, so i got him a squire. I would like to remove the logo (pic related). I have little to no knowledge of woodworking. I am not sure which finish the guitar uses, if it even has one. I would like to remove the logo and replace it with a decal. How would i got about doing this?
OP here, this is the decal i would like to put.
Just use a grinder to take it off.
>>1101414
Wouldn't that ruin it? I don't have access to a grinder.
Floorboards are easy, but how do I replace joists?
>>1101381
You don't.

We don't do spoonfeeds, use fucking google
First you need to find a bunch of politicians to decide where it's going to be built. And then a bunch of managers to ignore what the engineers say.
