They all either have a wooden/plastic handle or one of these retarded abominations.

Basically, makes them next to impossible to fit into an oven and prone to deterioration which defeats the point of having a cast iron pan to begin with. I had one earlier and it worked fine until the handle started coming loose and I didn't even use it that much.

Hey /ck/

I'm in Afghanistan currently and eat my 3 meals a day from a dining facility. They aren't all bad, but pretty much all of them are bland and lack any sort of spice or seasoning. One of the most common staples of my diet here is grilled chicken breast, it's always made and is a viable option when nothing else looks good, but the grilled taste is starting to wear on me.

I'm looking for seasonings and spices I can use after something's already been cooked. Honestly it doesn't even matter if they're supposed to be used while you're cooking, I'm pretty desperate at this point and I've eaten worse. Just need any suggestions. I can order things from amazon or have friends send me them. Just spice/seasoning suggestions for basic meats and meals.

Hey /ck/ I wanted to share my idea will some of you. When I make some soup, it's way too hot and I hate waiting and burning my mouth. But regular ice cubes water it down so I added some of the meat and stock to make meat cubes that cool down and add flavor at the same time.

Are you trying to make complicated dishes? You should be making simple dishes until you get the techniques down, and then move onto making sauces and marinades and other things to improve the flavor. Even pre-mixed seasonings and pre-made sauces are fine for a beginner, so don't worry about that stuff yet. Once you can cook meat and have it come out not over or underdone, can braise meat and have it come out tender, can make simple baked goods, can cook dry beans easily, etc. then you can start trying new things to flavor them and then that's when you'll notice your food start to improve more.

Also you're going to mess up for a while, either through experimenting or just using bad recipes, so don't worry about it. Nobody went from not knowing anything about cooking to being a world class chef overnight.

I thought my tolerance to spicy food was increasing or something. But I visited home recently, and realized the peppers in SF are bland as fuck.

I feel like I'm being ripped off. Why bother selling a hot variety of chili, if you're going to make it bland as fuck. I swear the Habaneros here are on par with normal Serranos.

Is this some stupid ploy to make white people feel like they're "cultured" and "diverse" and can stomach ethnic food? I swear, it's probably the same group of fucks that order the "spicy" option at restaurants, then bitch that it's too spicy. Seriously fuck those people, they're the reason restaurant food is bland.
