Hi /ck/! So tomorrow I'm celebrating my birthday, and so Ima be working with grass fed beef and pressing it into a patty for burgers. Any advice on working with the stuff, or burger making in general? I've never cooked with it before, and I've never hand pressed my own patties

>Grass-fed beef
Fucking why? Corn feed is what gives meat that nice marbling. 90-10 beef is not suitable for burgers
>>
>>9163394
It's what was available and I hadn't heard of corn fed. The lady who was selling recommend using an oil of some sorts to help give it a more fatty taste
>>
form patties by hand, not too thick (under an inch thick), since otherwise the middle won't cook properly while the surface burns
salt and pepper the top and bottom and sides
fry on a pan or in a grill

Kroger makes a 50% reduced sugar one that's amazing.

I think people hate ketchup 'cause it's excessively sweet.

I always thought "aquired taste" was a meme but, wow!

Beer tastes better than soda just now.

What other foods are just ok then become amazing after a while?

Most vegetables, surprisingly enough. Mom wasn't kidding when she said that she actually liked stuff like broccoli, squash, eggplant, etc. It was all dog vomit as a kid but as an adult it's delicious.
>>
>>9162548
I've never gotten this one. I loved greens as a kid and neither of my parents were vegetarians or anything. I remember being maybe 8 and people making a big deal about me liking brussels sprouts.
I fucking hated cheese as a kid though. Everything except cheddar and mozzarella. I didn't even like parmesan until I was like 10.

I still haven't acquired a taste for any blue cheeses desu but I force myself every so often since my philosophy is that I'm not allowed to dislike categories of food, only specific examples or brands.

I might be a little late to the game... but how are Safeway's breakfast sandwiches?

I have a somewhat brutal commute of 2 hours, and I stay on the North end of the city on the weekdays with a total health nut (super nice lady, but I think she only drinks smoothies / protein shakes).

I have a coupon for safeway breakfast sandwich $2.50 and a coupon for Mcdonalds breakfast sandwich $1 off or BOGO, or free hashbrowns....

McDonalds breakfast feels like a rip off if you want an egg...

How about for starters, try not to talk like you're on the playground with other 2nd graders. There's no such thing as a sammy, nigger.

Second, wake up ten minutes earlier and make your own sammy. Better for your health, your wallet, and your inability to find meaning in life.

Nigger.
>>
>>9163021
Okay so I wouldn't say it so fuckin intense but this guy is right
Just make your own sandwiches
>>
>>9162516
I've never had Safeway's breakfast sandwiches, but I have had their lunch/sub sandwiches, and they're pretty fucking good. I assume you're talking about their freshly made deli counter. I'd try that instead of McDonald's.

Which one is better?

How do you like to make your ham and cheese sandwiches?
Me? I start with two slices of all American white bread made at the local Baker. I put 8 slices of goat cheese aged at my local cheese shop and then throw on around a pound and half of Babby Handcocks ham slices.

Then I smother it with a little mayo and mustard a few pickle slices and one deviled egg. Finally I throw it in the nuke for 5-12 minutes depending on how hot I want it. Let me hear you story and how you like to make yours, might give me some fresh ideas!

Would a 12qt be large enough for canning or should I go for a 16qt?

is the image shown 12qt? because that's going to do any home cook fine
>>

no clue

I asked because I didn't see images showing a good relative size comparison

these are all supposed to be 16qt:

I have a can of sardines in my cupboard for unexplainable reasons (don't remember buying it), and I don't know what to do with it. I've never tasted sardines before but I've heard they're disgusting. Does /ck/ have any tips or recipes to make sardines delicious?

Sardines are great. Mix them with some honey mustard and throw that shit on crackers.
>>
>>9162000
if they're just plain you can put them on saltines with some mustard or jalepenos. I dont eat them very often because they make my burps taste like fish for the next few hours
>>
>>9162000
They're cheap.. so just try them?

I was ready to hate them but they're oily and bland. Light fish flavor (NOT fishy, like anchovies are).

They're good on crackers with cream cheese, onions, and dill
