What are some of the lesser known recipes that are cooked by ancient cultures all around the world that are still served today? Thinking of experiencing what people in ancient times ate for their meal after a long day out in the field farming or trading
Ancients?
Unleavened bread and crudely cooked meat (usually boiled or roasted over an open fire)
Really not that great.

Feel like eating yourself to death for cheap?
1 apple fruit pie for 80 cents
Each pie is 430 calories. 68% fat
5 pies for $4 gets you 2150 calories.
Did I mention that you can probably eat more than 5 in one sitting?
what's the worst shit you can eat /ck/?

Damn, I loved these as a kid, are they really that bad for you?
Some people earlier pointed out how pizza was low-filling and high-calorie compared to most other common foods. So pretty much pizza needs to be up there. Say 400 calories a slice. Not hard to eat 3 slices at a sitting.
>>9154771
Calories are not bad, they are energy. As long as you're using that energy. Walking, jogging, running, casual sports, biking, etc you'll be fine.
It's the foods you eat when you sit on your ass you should be worried about.
You literally can't

I wouldn't trust anyone who picks up their pizza like that

The Ristorante ones are ALL amazing.
I genuinely love them.

Aubergines.
I always thought about how dumb Nickelodeon is (or whoever owns spongebob rights) to not do a real-life Krusty Krab fast food chain.
It would be extremely hard to fuck it up.

I had a mishap with my starter, Lil Yeezy. I took him out to hit room temp and he got a little out of hand. Reminder to leave your starter container 2/3 empty.
After i cleaned up that mess i fed it and put it back in fridge for the week, but i took 100g out for bread. After I took some out and premixed with a bit of flour and water to start a preferment I got some texts from some friends so I put the preferment in the oven with the light on. While at that party, I got a text about another party. I ended up not coming home for about 10 hours. When I got back the whole thing was sitting at 140F and had a shell. All the yeast was definitely dead by this point, so I'm starting over again. This weekend was failure after failure... I didn't realize I've lights would make an oven so warm. Should have set it to proof, but I didn't want to leave it running while I was out the house.

That's a bummer. I still haven't made my own starter yet (mainly because I don't generally have a stretch of 5-7 days in a row when I'm at home at the same time.
I finally got my starter going it seems to consistently rise now.
What I learned was to not mindlessly follow recipes and schedules. Only to feed it after you experience some rise and some fall which may not always be within the 12 hours of when you feed it.
If there's not much activity leave more starter for the next feeding. Don't dilute the yeast with more food than it can eat.
Warming up the water before feeding also helped alot.

Anything israeli owned. Got to hit the kikes where it hurts.
Coke's marketing revolves entirely around driving home the idea that they're an essential part of your life in a bout of circular reasoning that works so well because they've been marketing it like this this nonstop for the last 100 years or so.

Trying to figure out where exactly to start learning. Know the basic stuff already, but would appreciate some recommended starter books.
>>9160286
Yeah, I know the author is fag central, but this is a fantastic beginner cookbook.
Other good choices are:
-Joy of Cooking, especially the older editions (the modern ones cut a lot of stuff out)
-The Professional Chef. This is a textbook for the CIA (cooking school, not spies). The current edition is expensive but you can get used copies of earlier editions for pennies on the dollar. I paid $11 for my copy. It's incredibly good value for money and covers everything from food safety, budgeting, how to break down ingredients, knife technique, and it has a boatload of recipes.
-Jacques Pepin's La Methode and La Technique, or the later version "Complete Techniques".

Thanks appreciate it. I already found that first one for like four bucks on abebooks. I've had some good time for reading and wanted to see where to start.

New York Times 60-Minute Gourmet, by Pierre Franey.
Nothing too difficult, and it's nice for beginners because in the pre-recipe text he gives points on prep timing and flavor pairings. Each main recipe comes paired with a recommended side recipe (sometimes two) that compliment the main dish.

No it's a fish mate.
>>9161968
Not really. It breaks down well, has a good fillet and can be huge if you're fishing in the right area.

I think you mean Chili and Sea bass, Chilean sea bass isn't a thing.

What's up with cooking jobs and drug use?
Not complaining just never got the correlation
>>9161376
I thought cooking jobs were more about alcohol and cig use.
Everyone I know who works in the industry is a heavy drinker/smoker. Possibly drugs too idk.
Has to do with the stress level of the job.
>>9161376
it's stressful, long hours, and usually the people who work them are the type of people to disregard the law and be in and out of jail
>>9161376
Having met a lot of chefs/cooks on my travels, I've been told that cocaine use is high because during rush hour they want the added energy. Other drugs that mellow you out are used after work to take the stress off a person who has been standing or running around getting yelled at for 8-12 hours that day.
how do i find dishes to cook?
i've only recently started cooking (just moved out) and while i enjoy it i have no idea what to make. i made shrimp linguine, which i enjoyed, but that's about all i know how to make.
any suggestions? i like seafood and white meats (but not red ones)
chicken linguine
Just search the internet. whatthefuckshouldimakefordinner.com for instance.
here's an idea; get some good fish (salmon perhaps), season it and put it in a pan with a little bit of oil, put your stove on a little below medium heat. serve with asparagus and rice.

1) go to www.google.com
2) type in "good ____ recipe" where ____ is the ingredient you like
3) buy ingredients
4) cook that shit
