Hey /ck/

I'm in Afghanistan currently and eat my 3 meals a day from a dining facility. They aren't all bad, but pretty much all of them are bland and lack any sort of spice or seasoning. One of the most common staples of my diet here is grilled chicken breast, it's always made and is a viable option when nothing else looks good, but the grilled taste is starting to wear on me.

I'm looking for seasonings and spices I can use after something's already been cooked. Honestly it doesn't even matter if they're supposed to be used while you're cooking, I'm pretty desperate at this point and I've eaten worse. Just need any suggestions. I can order things from amazon or have friends send me them. Just spice/seasoning suggestions for basic meats and meals.

Umm, this is the fast food and processed food board, sir.

What's available at the local commissary? Or are you expecting it to be shipped from home?

Also, why haven't you set up a still yet?

Ginger powder, curry powder, stir fry sauce, teriyaki sauce, kansas city style bbq sauce

I saw it on the news. Big battles against the Taliban.

Sorry we don't have a Burger King here like in Qatar so my options are limited to only "fresh" cooked food

>>9150128
Didn't even think of that, definitely getting some. Thanks

>>9150131
Syrup doesn't work for most stuff. Already have some steak sawce on order thankfully. Looking into some marinades as well. Most of that stuff probably won't work with the limited options we have unfortunately.

>>9150138
>local commissary
Don't have one. All we have is a Class 1 which the squadron has to order from. All our meals come from the Dining Facility, subway, or pizzahut. No place on base to buy food or food related items. The Base Exchange has cold drinks and some snacks like jerky, but that's it. I'm ordering from amazon since they deliver to APO addresses, as well as having family send anything amazon won't send, so all suggestions are welcome.

>>9150150
Definitely getting some curry powder since I'm a fan of spice, and the teriyaki and BBQ sauce both could go good with some of the options here. Thanks!

>>9150153
Weather operations. Amazon writes WAR ZONE real big on its shipping labels, I thought it was amusing.
>>
That pic looks bland as shit. Hope you get it figured out.
>>
>>9150176
Amazon, huh?

Well, could slice it up and do pesto and balsamic vinegar for italian. Tony Chachare's creole seasoning would be good too. Creole seasoning is basically salt, pepper, cayenne, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. I'd go for the low-salt version as I'm sure it's alredady sodium heavy. You'll never hear it from anyone else, but the best sriracha is made in Mexcio and comes in a fucking water bottle. Badia brand is best. For a good basic hot sauce, I assume you already got tabasco and texas pete, so maybe something fruity or smokey like mango habanero or chipolte sauce. Pickapeppa is a Caribbean fruity sauce blend that goes great, I like the gingery mango one. Can't rule out salad dressing either like french, peppercorn ranch, or vidalia sauce.

Lots of options. I'd assume (probably incorrectly) that you have lemon, so you could already rig a lemon pepper sauce.

>>
>>9150105
Afghanistanis also eat mac & cheese?
>>
>>9150201
It really is. No seasoning or spices at all. The thing is I've been here a couple months now so I'm starting to get used to it but I still crave some flavortown action now and then.

>>9150205
My god thank you for those suggestions. Ordering creole seasoning. Trust me we need the salt out here to retain water. Got sriracha on order already. Planning on ordering some hot sauce and wing sauce with this batch of stuff too. Gonna order some of that pickapeppa it sounds dank. Thankfully we have packets of salad dressing available at the DFAC.
>tfw no lemon

Read "The Forever War" if you want to learn about it. Very interesting book.

>>9150215
Americans in Afghanistan do. Baked Mac and cheese that's bland as shit and looks amazing but each bite is filled with disappointment and sadness.

Lawry's seasoned salt or a Cajun spice blend are great, easy ways to mask the taste of bland food and give it some kick. They're the ketchup of seasonings.
>>
>>9150105

Cajun profile spices. Start with these ratios and adjust to meet your taste.

1.5 parts: cayenne pepper, smoked paprika
1 part: black pepper, dried chili flakes
1/4 part: onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, thyme

Chop up the protein, some tomatoes and onions, add the spice, and mix with some rice.

Indian profiles spices. Again, start with these ratios and adjust as desired.
2 parts: Cumin, cayenne pepper
1.5 parts: Coriander
1 part: garlic powder, ginger powder
.5 parts: cinnamon, black pepper
.25 parts: turmeric, clove, star anise

Add to rice, to the protein, or chop it up and serve with tomatoes and onion as above.

Italian profile spices. Use these in a blend, or as a solitary flavor enhancer on veggies, like tomato.

Oregano, basil, garlic powder, thyme, marjoram, dried chili flakes

That should help keep things interesting.

You know the whole point of specifying recipes in "parts" is to do away with fractions? So why do your recipes include fractions?

Should be:
>>6 parts: cayenne pepper, smoked paprika
>>4 parts: black pepper, dried chili flakes
>>1 part: onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, thyme
>>
>>9150105

>>9152292

You know the whole point of listing ratios is because people asking about spices usually need a starting point to make adjustments from in any given seasoning blend?

You didn't know that, though, did you dipshit?
>>
>>9152306
You shot two Americans?
>>
>>9152319
>need a starting point to make adjustments from in any given seasoning blend?
Obviously. I'm just wondering why you chose such a silly method to provide that starting point.

Your sad reply doesn't answer my question. I'll ask it again since you seemed to miss it the first time:

The purpose of using "parts" is to avoid fractions. So why did your retarded ass combine both parts and fractions when the entire point of "parts" is to avoid using fractions at all?
>>
>>9150105

Are you really this fucking stupid?

Do you think that dude brought measuring spoons?

Parts allow him to season by eye using an MRE spoon.

We're done, idiot.

>>
>>9152494
>Do you think that dude brought measuring spoons?

Nope, that's exactly why I'm pointing out your idiocy. How is anyone going to measure the fractions that you called for? Does an MRE spoon have a marking for "1/4"? Hell no.

Parts makes perfect sense. Just not parts *involving fractions*.
>>
>>9152516

I already did the math when I corrected foolboy the first time.

I just want him to explain the logic behind combining fractions with parts. It's a real head-scratcher. I wonder if he also combines decmials with fractions? Like "add .75/4 of X". Don't you wonder what other silly contradictions are running around in his head, and why he feels that it's appropriate to share them?

Then why has nobody actually answered my question yet? You say it's defensible, yet you do not defend it by explaining how?

I recommend balsamic vinegar on anything and everything. It's even good on fries.

Just eat some of the local food. Aghani food is really good.

Was about to suggest this.
If you want food that's full of flavour then Aghani food is a very good choice.
Especially if they got lamb, those fuckers are amazing with lamb.
Just don't pick stuff that's too spicy.

Let me recommend:

- guacamole dip (pic related)
- lemon pepper seasoning
- cumin + fresh squeezed lemon
- soy sauce
- sriracha (used to have this in the barracks w/ rice w/ my chicken b)
