How good are you at beating retro games swiftly, /vr/?
Also, what classic games are you excited for at ASM?
https://horaro.org/ausspeedrunmarathon
I have only ever did a speed run of Mario 3. It took about 21 minutes using the flutes.
I could probably do it faster but I use up time to get a P wing for the fast doom ship in world 8.
I don't, but I enjoy watching speedruns before I fall sleep. it's comfy.
Want to know how fast i can masturbate?
LAN Thread
I am setting up a late 90s , early thousands lAN party using some rigs I have been working on .
I wanted to ask what the easiest way of setting up multiple copies of the same game on several machines running 98 and millenium edition. Will GOG games work ?
what games do you guys suggest, im leaning towards quake 3 to start off with.
Also what music should I have at the event to go along with Quake gameplay XP
>>3327135
You going to invite your /vr/ bros or what?
>>3327137
Look for some 90's or early 2000's trance.
Diablo II's anniversary is today!
Is this game still worth playing in this day and age?
[spoilers]I beat games like Titan's Quest and Torchwood 2, but never finished Diablo II[/spoilers]
>>3327093
aaand I fucked up the tags. Ctrl+s doesn't work for me.
So, no one played Diablo?
>>3328286yep
Sup /vr/
This thing is on Steam for less than 2 bucks, so I wondered how shit the Steam version was and if it was worth the priceor should I buy it elsewhere?
>>3327069
It's alright, but a poor-man's Starcraft.
>>3327138
Keep your shitty comparison out of the thread please, I only asked about the Steam version.
>>3327069
i doubt there is any difference to ones you can get elsewhere.
both can probably be patched with the unofficial patch, although it's authors strongly recommend gog version.
Is this worth it? Not really played any sega megadrive games before.
>>3326913
>paying for emulation
>literally paying for roms
>>3326932
How do you tell which games are roms and which games aren't roms?
so I bought one of these and I have no clue how to hook it up to my genesis. I also have a jp21 scart cable that doesnt need a converter, but I thought you could just hook it up to the framemiester using the scart and output hdmi, but I dont see any scart plug in for it. do I need some kind of jp21 scart to RGB for it also?
>>3326694
How could you drop that much money on something and do no research on how it works?
>>3326694
never mind /vr/ i forgot about the cable they give you in the box, but now im getting no input no matter what I do and I have no clue whats up.
Update: I console works fine with the video cables that I had with the system, but it doesnt work when hooked up through the Framemeister with the rgb to scart cables is there anyway to test this at all without, shelling out more money for cables to a different system? to to see if it is the cables for this system or am I fucked? tried googling this shit but its no help.
>Races are classes
Yep. That's how the first edition of DnD worked.
>>3326452
Oddly enough Order of the Griffon is supposed to be based on 3.5 or something
>>3326461
3.5 didn't exist in 1992
Guys what the fuck is with this room? I just died 15 times in a row because I can't deal with it. This is the first dungeon with wizrobes, and there's likelikes and a ball of death too. Is there a short way to defeat any of these enemies because I literally can't? Am I just a retard or is this a room or dungeon people struggle with?
Also why do people call this game esoteric? This is literally my first time playing it and I've only ever had to look up one dungeon, which was the 7th, but I found literally every other one (except the 2nd which is in the instruction booklet) on my own. Searching for things and exploring things is so rewarding so I feel pretty guilty about googling the 7th. I can see why everyone called newer Zeldas linear now. I felt so much joy when I found the first boss so everything after that was fun and addictive.
>>3326232
How about a bow?
>>3326239
It doesn't work on Wizrobes, and if I try to get the likelikes first the wizrobes get me and if I try to get the wizrobes first hte likelikes eat my shield which I need to reflect the wizrobe attacks and all throughout all of this the ball of death gets me.
It just fucks my shit up.
>>3326232

or just git gud, forget the shield and start dodging

After playing Witcher games I wanna try something more "classy".
Should I play Baldur Enhanced version or simply download old version and playing with mods?.
Enhanced version a shit. BGT, BGT tweak pack and unfinished business is all you need.
>>3326427
Don't bother with the conversion mods for a first time playthrough though. Play the original BG1 with unfinished business and baldurdash mods and you're good to go. I'd avoid the tweak pack as it fixes some things but also makes the games far easier with some of it's more game-changing tweaks.
Also go Paladin for best PC
>>3326126
The original looks worse than aids and the modding community is a cesspool of subhuman filth. EE is the only tolerable option.
Can I get some good recommendations for NES games made by American or Euro/British devs? I was thinking about it and most of my favorite NES games were done by Japanese studios, and I'd like some suggestions for games worth playing. Not necessarily masterpieces, just stuff that isn't crap.
Pic related, I enjoyed Treasure Master.
Just don't mind the bad box art.
>>3326113
Startropics, it's NoA-exclusive game.
>>3326119
post the good cover then
better than World in every way
it's definitely more complete. mario world has better controls, camera and more diverse level gimmicks though

Hey /vr/! What are some games that never made it to the United States that are worth emulating? I've been playing the first Fire Emblem, Mr. Gimmick and Panel De Pon lately and they're all really good!
>>3325903
A large chunk of the sega master system catalog
I never finished it, but Marvelous: Another Treasure Island seems pretty cool so far.
It's what Aonuma worked on before he joined the Zelda team.
Your thoughts on the Namco Museum series?
>>3325895
Delicious blonde girl comes to mind..
there was something so comfy and kinda psychedelic about the museum. the emptiness, the music, the '95 playstation graphics. i fuckin love it. really the games were more of an afterthought, as a kid i'd spend most of my time just wandering around and taking it in
>>3325895
Might be a really stupid question, but it appears I just kinda suck at retro games. I love them a ton, but I'll be fucked if I could ever beat one. Do some people just have a gift to be awesome at games, or is it all just practice?
pic very related.
I sucked at NES Contra and had never beaten it. I started playing it and got to where I could clear it (no code). I hadn't played it for a while, tried to play it again, and sucked. If I picked it up today and put in a bit of time to get back comfortable with it, I am sure I could beat it easily.
Similar story with arcade Makaimura and FC Batman: couldn't beat them, kept playing and playing and playing, then I could beat them. While of course natural reaction time plays a part, if you really want to beat a game, play it enough and you eventually will clear it. I don't mean play it for a couple days, stop, then try again a month later. Just dedicate all of or most of your gaming time to it for a significant period of time and I am sure you can do it.
Practice, patience, perseverance, getting the fuck gud.
>>3325859
practice
people don't become good at something just sitting on their asses (unless they're trying to get good at video games)
