So, I want to play Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, and Corridor 7. That's the short version.
Long version is... I've been out of the loop when it comes to playing old great games in new hardware. What do?
1) Doom: I remember there was a thing called ZDoom that was the most user-friendly fucking thing in existance. Small window opened up, had a menu with WADs. Select WAD, boom, done. However, it was apparently replaced by something else?
2) Duke Nukem 3D. I know there's an steam version, so here's where it gets tricky. I still have my old ass 1.4v CD (before Atomic. I used to have the Plutonium Pak, but that CD is long lost) still around. So, should I just ignore the CD, go fuckall and buy it again... or can I still use my awesome CD?
3) Corridor 7: Fuck me, that diskette is the longest goner ever. Never played the CD vesion. I think the files are floating around, but... well, what do? DosBox? Can anyone point me to a good tutorial? Are the newer dosbox version more stable?
You could even play these on a raspberry pi. Just duke would not work all that great with a gamepad. Or on a hacked wii.
Don't know what distros would make this easy though if it was desired.
Skip Corridor 7, play Blake Stone: Planetstrike and Rise of the Triad instead. C7 is basically just an inferior version of Blake Stone and Rise of the Triad is the best out of all the Wolf3D-like shooters.
>>3807163
Perhaps, but I have nostalgia for Corridor 7, unlike Rise of the Triad (although the shareware is in my Duke 3D CD).
That still doesn't tell me what I need to download to play this games, tho'. Specially Doom, which should be the easiest and smallest of the bunch. And all them idTech 1 games, of course.
This is literally in the top 5 of best video games of all time.
Prove me wrong.

def.
Also almost perfect games:
FF7
Witcher 3
Bloodborne
>literally
That word doesn't mean what you think it means.

NOT RETRO
Anyone know anything about Re-Volt and The Goosebumps game? Worth anything?
>>3801126
Went yesterday and all I got was an NES controller and a bunch of DVDs. Oh and a kickass Swissgear laptop luggage that is usually 150 bucks for 10 bucks and it's almost brand new.
Gumtree rather than charity shop but got everything in the pic for £20.
Only thing which isn't perfectly functional is the PoP cart. All Wii games are mint CIB and the Game Gear works like a champ, better than my other two.
I'm pretty fucking stoked to be honest.

Theres this new invention called google. It lets you find out about shit you dont know about.
Just go there and type "revolt pc game" into it and hit search.
Fucking reseller.
I couple of years ago, when GameCenter CX was huge here, I saw most of the subbed episodes.
I kind of want to go back and check out the show again, but I've forgotten which episodes were the best.
What do you guys think the best episodes are?
>>3798883
episodes without nintendo games
Battletoads, Lemmings and Out of This World/Another World are my favorites, personally.
>Last subbed ep was 8 months ago
Life is suffering
Do you like them? Reminds me of the super early era of serious 3d videogames around 95, as if they were trying to make a movie-esque experience.
Any long-boxers here?
>>3814096
They're cool from a collectors standpoint, but they suck because they don't fit in with standard jewel cases.
I have two, kings field and resident evil.
I love all Sony cases. They're all so sexy.
I had some from back in the day and I still pick them up when I find them for $2 unless it's a really really bad game
Very rare and expensive retrostuff
Yup! Thats some crazy dope shit sir
>>3812291
I have it but I can't find it anymore, lost somewhere in my parents' basement. I have the games though, and it's got a fight stick too somewhere.
>>3812291
A 3DO? How is that expensive?
So.... who did you choose first?
I thought this whole thing was dumb. Fucks up the pacing of the story and loses all your equipment unless you have the clairvoyance to know that the scenario is about to end so you can deequip all your characters.
I thought this part was fun and one of the reasons VI felt so charming.
Asellus
Lba2 one of my first games. What was yours?
Wolfenstein 3D: Spear of Destiny.
Nothing like blasting nazis at the ripe age of 6 or 7
Panther bundled with the C64. Ok game overall

If it isn't presented by CAVE, why present it at all?
Most cavefags are late bandwagon jumpers who got into their shmups thanks to Steam.

>implying this is a bad thing
A newer platform introducing players to retro games is wonderful.

Are there any sites better than HCG101 for cataloging and reviewing retro/Japanese PC88+98 games?
Refuge Tokyo for PC98.

I seriously hope you don't do this.
How might gaming history have been different if the N64 had used CD-ROMs?
>>3806861
The N64 would have had FMV like the playstation, but games like Perfect Dark or Conker's BFD would have been impossible, because CD's have terrible bandwidth compared to carts.
>>3806987
you just need a big enough buffer to hold all the data. lets pretend they give it a bunch more ram so it can do it.
I imagine the greatest difference is the Saturn's complete and utter destruction in Japan, and that many Satun/PS1 "exclusives" would have also received N64 ports.
The console would have cost $100 more though.
How come roguelikes never went the 'openworld' road? Given how old Ultima saga is, i was expecting more old fashioned roguelikes outside the Dungeon Crawling experience.
"Open world" games weren't really seen as feasible before GTA III was released. Also, consoles were the main driving force behind gaming back then, so imagine cramming an open world game in a SNES cartridge.
(Although Metal Max tries this, it's not a roguelike).
bump for interest.
>>3805673
Create an OpenWorld is fucking difficult, and the development requires a lot of time and money.
>>3805673
You might enjoy ZZT or MUDs and derivatives (MOOs, MUSHs etc)
This company is bad. They are mediocre game developers first of all. Sonic was "alright" and "decent" at best but wouldnt even be considered one of the best games on the SNES if it came out on it. This company was only successful because of some smart marketing ideas and Sonic itself having a nice design that appeals to kids.
Ironically, when it was successful, Sega was strongly outclassed, but the Dreamcast is actually a really decent console and should have deserved much more love back in the day. Too bad Shenmue ruined it.
Cool opinions.
I still prefer the genesis over the snes, and they still are my favourite consoles.
My friends with a snes would have killed to play S&K back on the day, same for me about Yoshi's Island.
>>3803420
SEGA put out many great games, though.

What is your favorite /vr/ belt-sander?
>>3803056
Sorry, my belt-sander was made after the year 2000. It's pretty good though.
If you meant Beat 'em up games, the one you posted is pretty rad.
>>3803056
My favorite beat 'em up is Aliens vs Predator by Capcom.
>Some anon used the term "belt-scroller" on his OP. This angers me! Instead of sulking up to this and contributing to his thread, let's filled this already slow board with passive aggressive shitposting by making a pointless new thread.
