Has anyone else been going to Retropalooza in Dallas Texas? It was cool at first. But now it's just the same boring guests over and over again. How many times do you need to see the gaming Historian? They need new guests. Maybe make it more like Magfest.

Was this once in Houston? Maybe I'm thinking of a different retro gaming con.
>>
>>3799209

Isn't this a con that was started by magfest e-celeb rejects for other e-celeb rejects so they could tell themselves that they didn't need magfest?
>>
>>3799325
I believe they have one in Houston and Dallas, Magfest is really cool with all the bands.

I like Symphony of the Night but the Reverse Castle isn't a lot of fun.

Agree or disagree?

I just want to get a discussion going. Many people who revisit SOTN find that the Reverse Castle isn't a lot of fun. There aren't many meaningful upgrades and most of the equipment you'll find will be useless.

I think it's alright, the only thing I dislike is there only being 3 BGMs.

Let's have a thread about cheap Chinese repros and controllers and shit.

I bought a GB Boy Colour off Aliexpress, and I'm loving this thing so far. Aspect ratio's a little fucky but tolerable, and the backlight is a godsend. Pretty good build quality for the price, too.

What chink shit have you bought, /vr/? What did you think of it?

Bought this 143-in-1 NES multicart
Good:
>actually does have all games listed from what I've seen
>games themselves are fine, only difference I noticed was screen transition looks a little different in Zelda 1

Bad:
>battery save doesn't really work, even when doing the whole hold-reset-button as I turn it off

Bought an Everdrive X7 from TaoBao. It just arrived at the warehouse and I paid $11 to ship it to US.

Was really confusing to figure out.

How long do game consoles/games last? It stands to reason that even the best made consoles will eventually break down just due to plastic decaying, glue giving way, capacitors dying, batteries leaking though etc. Most people on this sub are playing games decades longer then they were designed to run. Already people are having to get game-boy screens replaced due to ink-based screens not being made to last past a few years and many older, obscure consoles (philips CD-i, Gizmodo, Amstrad GX4000) are failing left right and centre due some old inherent design flaw.

How long do you think before some consoles become unplayable without extreme life support?

Also, obligatory mention that any first run Xbox 360 is guaranteed to fail at some point or another.

Atari 2600's are still going strong.

The most likely thing to go in these consoles is capacitors, which will need to be replaced, but the replacement is fairly trivial.

I would say your standard NES' and SNES will probably work for the next 75-100 years with maintenance and proper storage.

Banjo Kazooie was mostly pretty crappy compared to Banjo Tooie (which I had played earlier), but Click Clock Wood was the best level in any game of all time.

Is there any level that comes close in any other game in existence?

Is this trolling? Banjo-Tooie - while still good - is undeniably worse than B-K. And Click Clock Wood is the worst level in BK because, well, it's like a Tooie world, being overly huge and relying way too much on backtracking.

All adventure have backtracking. Otherwise they're just linear paths to a simple end.

Banjo Tooie is the greatest. How is it "undeniably worse"?

This is literally my bread and butter. What other "bad" games or "bad" levels have you seen that follow this trend? I will be very happy if you tell me! :)

Can we talk about this gem?

Just beat it about ten minutes ago. It really impressed me in... well, mainly the quality of writing. It probably has one of the tightest game scripts I've seen in a game. The story itself is rather simple, but the characterization is incredibly well-done and there is enough use of subtlety and trope-deviation to make it feel like a deeper experience (I felt the same way about Final Fantasy VII and apparently its written by the same guy). Everything in this game was solid but the story sold it for me.

What have your experiences with this game been like?

I was okay with the NTR bits because I never really liked Yoyo anyway. Now the one girl who's a drug addict on the other hand...

>What have your experiences with this game been like?
I was honestly more impressed by some mechanics like burning areas on the maps or freezing water tiles so you could pass on them, with some actual balance the game could be very good.

The writing, eh, I didn't think it was anything special really, Yoyo getting pseudo stockholm syndrome is the only thing that gets people around here because of NTR memes and some underage retards take it way to seriously but that's it really.
And talking about that I don't get why people are so worked up about Yoyo and Byuu when Matelite is the one who actually got the worst deal out of the whole thing.
