I consider myself a big Zelda fan, but I've never beaten Zelda 1 and 2, so recently I decided to change that.
I'm playing the first one and I've got to the 6th dungeon, it's ridiculously hard. There are rooms full of enemies shooting at you from everywhere and teleporting randomly, not only that but they also take like a bajillion hits to kill, and Link's invincibilty frames are a joke.
Am I missing something here? Am I just bad? Or is the game just that hard?

The game can be hard for first timers. Don't feel so bad. Just keep grinding it.
>>
Blue wizzrobes are the worst enemy in the game. If there's any enemy worth spending bombs on, it's them
>>

Some enemies (Darknuts, Wizrobes) can certainly be challenging
Be sure to look at the item list and see if you're missing anything that might be helpful

Why'd they change Kirby's design? he looks so much better drawn like this. I don't wanna sound like those people who complain sonic has green eyes but new Kirby is too round and his face is too big.

They didn't change his design. he evolved.

I wouldn't call it evolution, he could've stayed like this, what was wrong with it?

Most of the early games were constantly changing art direction. Kirby is different between all the dreamlands. It's only lately the settled on a "final" and it wasn't that long ago we had a yarn version.

yes, I think I was in fifth grade. in particular, besides the cartoon of course, I remember the first season where he'd give out tricks for games between the cartoons. Apparently after the first season they turned it into a game show... I don't really remember that.,,, did they still have the cartoon after the first season?

I have a paper ad of it and a pair of the gloves the kids used when they played the games that were actually from the set of the show. I remember watching reruns as a kid but I mostly love it now for how it epitomizes the general spirit of game culture at the time. Those sci-fi sets they used were insane and I loved them.

Never watched it, does it hit enough nostalgia to make it worth watching?

If you live with other people who like retro games than I think the N64 would be worthy of a purchase. If OP lives on his own than he should listen to this post.

I'm trying to remember the name of this old PC game I used to play. It came out sometime during the 90s and all I remember is this puzzle which involved glass eyes of different colors (blue, brown, green) on a tray or table. I remember literally nothing else from the game, but I'm almost positive it exists. I know it's vague, but sadly that's all I remember. Thanks in advance

Dragon Quest Monsters is essential. 2 is also good, but in a different way.

Not retro, but I personally consider the DS instalment, Joker, to be far better than any Pokemon game.

give Jade Cocoon a try, its slow but i really enjoyed the story and fusion the beasts together

https://youtu.be/0HtRgg9QiWM

>perfect graphics and art style
>impressive music given GBC limitations
>follows the classic Zelda formula, but introduces enough new mechanics to have its own identity
>linear story progression, but the worlds quickly open up and are densely-packed with secrets and places to explore
>rings, gasha seeds, potions etc. are actually useful and give you incentive to explore, unlike the useless rupees you are rewarded with in almost every other Zelda game
>speaking of rupees, you actually have things to spend them on: minigames, shops that sell useful things, gambling, etc.
>rings are the best collectible in the series and add some customization to the gameplay, some of the rings with negative effects even let you make the game harder if you choose
>dungeons are perfectly paced and don't drag on, but can provide a challenge at times
>great boss fights, some of the more imaginative ones in the series
>items are heavily utilized in both dungeons and the overworld, and no item feels wasted
>brimming with dozens of hours of content
>the ability to link the games extends the content considerably, and creates something of a pseudo-multiplayer feature.

Collectively, Oracle of Seasons and Ages are the best Zelda game that's ever been made. The only criticisms I ever hear of these games are retarded nitpicks like "some of the rings were useless" or "only two buttons". The fact is, the Oracle games do everything that the other Zelda games do, but better. They are bigger, more feature-rich, have better combat and are all-around just better in almost every way.

Shitty games. Nintendo's Zelda team was at their peak in this era, these are just cheap imitations.

OK, real talk, do "inaccurate" emulators like ZSNES and ePSXe really affect gameplay? Like if I play a game with one of these emulators, will it really affect things like RNG and enemy AI, or will they play pretty much just like the actual consoles they emulate if they look like they do on the surface?

The reason I ask is because I've been wanting to get back into emulation for a long time, but I have this nagging OCD need to get an "accurate" experience. This often means messing with clunky, resource intensive programs like Retroarch and Mednafen, when I could just do what everyone else does and use simpler programs that "just work" even if they're not the most accurate. I mean, when I was younger I didn't have these hangups; I was happy if the emulators I used worked at a decent speed and played the games I wanted.

TL;DR is it OK to use older, "inferior" emulators if they just work?

You seem kind of foolish, but I'll go ahead and answer

First off -- an emulator will never affect a games RNJESUS, because that's coded into the game

As far as accurate, and feel -- that's using the original controller for the console. If you didn't grow up using the console this honestly does not matter

Accuracy -- there is always going to be a split second lag input when emulating a game, so using emulators to play professional fighting games like street fighter is absolutely unacceptable

Speed running Mario in an emulator would be unacceptable

Since the games are coded to talk to the hardware, response time from a button press makes the experience -- this is lost 98% of the time on an emulator
>>
>>4216496
Fair enough. I don't really care about competitive gaming, unless you mean casual multiplayer with friends. But like, if an emulator's CPU cycles are off, will it screw with the gameplay significantly?
>>
>>4216506
What I'm really asking is, have I bought too much into byuu's shit about cycle accuracy? I mean, I guess it can affect things in some edge cases, but for like 99% of games, if it looks like the real console, will it play like the real console (excluding button lag, which I don't even notice because I'm a literal autist with slow reflexes anyway).

I love how completley un-scary the original trilogy is. Circus music and colorful hand drawn graphics. The second game is pirate themed and the third is western.

New Nightmare is pretty scary at first, but eventually devolves into a self parody of itself.
