Why'd they change Kirby's design? he looks so much better drawn like this. I don't wanna sound like those people who complain sonic has green eyes but new Kirby is too round and his face is too big.
They didn't change his design. he evolved.

I wouldn't call it evolution, he could've stayed like this, what was wrong with it?

Most of the early games were constantly changing art direction. Kirby is different between all the dreamlands. It's only lately the settled on a "final" and it wasn't that long ago we had a yarn version.

I suppose, but we had a yarn version of this kirby too. I just think the sort of parabaloid arms, and the smaller facial features look better, also he was bigger here.
>>4217306
Preferences and tastes I suppose. The bigger facial features was most likely an effort to make him even "cuter" as tastes changed.
>>4217317
Yeah, but it was the inverse here, he looked more cute and genuine here... I guess it is semantics at this point though.
For the same reason they changed mario's design to look like plastic
Cute drawings only betray the truth of his wrath & rage.
>>4217328
I guess, but that looked ugly too. Lately though Mario has been looking better, the 3D world art looked nice.
>>4217336
I always thought the joke was how cute he was in comparison to his actions.

this applies to every single Nintendo redesign ever

not retro but they got yoichi kotabe, the guy who did the art for mario from the mid 80s to the mid 90s, back for the 2d art in super mario 3d land and world. i'm happy 1996-2011 plastic mario is over
He looks more oriental in this design
>>4217285
I guess we just have to agree to disagree.
>>4217285
Newer designs look more like the original sprites.
>>4217418
He also did some art that's in the switch gui, complete with oldschool yoshi.
>>4217620
Older designs were used for dreamland 3 though

I love the mario design used in the Mario & Luigi games.
