Out of the blue I remembered this game for no reason, even though I've never played it. Is it worth playing?
>>
>>4217006
Yes, best Square RPG
>>
>>4217006
No, worst Square RPG. Consider Bahamut Lagoon.

Lol, get a life anon.
>>
>>4217006
It's a pretty decent game. Worth checking out.
>>
It's great. Rough-around-the-edges at a few parts but a wonderfully creative game typical of Square's golden era.

>>4217086
Bahamut Lagoon is good too but it's piss easy.
>>
There's some hate for the game here and there but it's easily one of my favorite square games.

It's experimental as fuck though, so it's not for everyone.
>>
>>4217006
Maybe, mediocre Square RPG. You should better play SaGa
>>
>>4217006
It's fun and fairly short. Worth a playthrough
>>
>>4217006
I think it's bretty good but I can see why it might be divisive. By dividing the game into a whole bunch of independent chapters, separate from each other, it means that none of the stories are particularly deep or engaging. However they set a tone and give an experience really well given the short time that you play each chapter, and it all works in its own 'short story anthology' sort of way. I loved it and I wish more games would do things like it, but if you want something really in depth and long and deep it'll probably leave you wanting.
>>
>>4217006

That Robo Space guy scene / gameplay is really good. I love just everything about it, especially the ambience and SFX, walking down the corridor, hallway, the opening doors etc.

It really captured the old retro space horror films. Very nostalgic.
>>
>>4217316
Really? Was my least favorite. Best was the mech one for me
>>
>>4217171
>but it's piss easy.
Harder than LaL
>>
>>4217332
Cowboy is the best. You can just sit in the bar and drink the entire time until the gang shows up, and get all this backstory and shit

Then when you fight them the entire fight is a puzzle with all of them on screen at once
>>
>>4217332

I'm Asian so I find the Mecha one cliched instead.

IIRC there wasn't much battles in the Space gameplay, right? (Excluding the arcade in the lounge.)

I just liked the exploration in that level, and the atmosphere. The ambience and the SFX was very well put together.

Personally I disliked the Caveman gameplay the most. Forgive me for not remembering their names.
>>
>>4217006
it's pretty great, probably would've been as well received as CT or FFVI if it was released in the west back then
>>
>>4217006
Great game but the experimetal nature makes it kind of difficult to ever revisit. I beat it about a year or two ago and while some sections would be fun to try again others just fill me with dread at the idea of having to go through again. I do recommend it though as the first time without spoilers really gives a memorable feeling that is unlike other jrpgs not just from that era but in general.
>>
>>4217387
Not him but in the sci fi chapter the only required battle is the boss at the very end. Of course you could play the Captain Square arcade game of you want a diversion.

Agreed on the caveman chapter. I like the idea of a jrpg with no dialouge but I just find it boring to play as it doesn't really do anything that interesting in terms of gameplay or mechanics.
>>
One of my favorite games of all time. It is however extremely experimental, as several anons have said, and whether or not I'd recommend it depends on your exposure to other JRPGs of the era.

90s Square fan? It will do some new things and play with some of your expectations, and will probably be very enjoyable.

Never played any other SNES RPGs? Just play Chrono Trigger already.

Oersted did nothing wrong

It's a pretty interesting, enjoyable and horribly depressing game. You'll no doubt prefer some chapters way more than others. If the battle system doesn't turn you off, you're very likely to enjoy it.

My only problem with it was that the chapters were all too short.
>>
>>4217006
No, the main story and the way they connected the individual stories together is stupid . Would've been much better if they taken one of the scenarios and made a full-length rpg out of it instead.
>>
Live a Live is a 7/10 game, but it's one that is absolutely worth playing at least once because of how cool and unique it is. To my knowledge there's nothing else like it.

For me that's a problem. I acknowledge they get a lot from very little, but that doesn't make the game great as other people feel towards it.

Every aspect of the game is inferior to whatever snes game you want to compare to (Graphics, story, combat, content such as items/characters, exploration). The game gives you a lot of experiences, but from the standpoint of someone who loves jrpgs, they are not enough.

It is a good game for exploring certain concepts (the smell system, for example, or the ninja simulator), but that alone doesn't make the experience better, at least in my case.

is this a Sans reference?

no it's a black sabbath reference
>>
>>4218527
Yes, because Live-a-Live was referencing Undertale 20 years before the fact.
