People fail to realize that Alone In The Dark not only invented "survival horror" as we knew it from the 90's to the mid 00's, but it also invented the technique of using 3D models with 2D pre-rendered backgrounds which influenced the entire industry for more than a decade, and not just survival horror, think of how Final Fantasy games use it for instance.
