Spoilers abound.

>Games takes place during Christmas
>Elijah wants to become the new messiah (birth of Christ) in a world of Snatchers
>Snatchers are machines which follow his orders (religious faith)
>Prayer is useless and jokingly adds an option to the menu when Gillian is about to crash
>Only church in the game is literally a Snatcher assembly factory
>Said church also gets obliterated by a laser cannon later on

How did this game get past the censors again? Snatcher thread.

I had this game when I was a kid. I remember playing it all the time and just thinking it was the bee's knees. Recently I saw it at a garage sale and bought it for .75 cents turns out that the game is actually shit.

It's slow, has terrible slow down problems. The plot is generic and seemingly irrelevant. Music is mediocre at best. The combat is odd, enemies have weird hotboxes and it's just not a good game 5/10 at the very best.

I would argue it is not in the slightest underrated. It is an OK game and is remembered as such.

This fucking bonus level. The depth on those ships are so bad I never know when I have to jump to actually hit them, nearly every time i jump and it goes right through the sprite.

Utilizing the full power of SegaCD and this is the best they could do?

The Sega CD isn't really anything more than a Genesis with 200-300 times more space for games.
>>
>>3299012
At has an extra processor, It's 12.5 mhz, the genesis is like 8mhz, so quite a bit more powerful.

I always say this when people bring up 2-d games with depth.

Is the Neo Geo the most expensive retro console to get into?

I figured I'd spend my tax return on a Neo Geo, and I ebayed them...

Doesn't it defeat the point if all you posted was some pointless, nonsensical provocative bullshit instead of a well thought out response?

Poor?

I have a lot of money because I don't waste it on 400 dollar pieces of plastic with circuit boards in them from 1990. Same goes for these games. Metal Slug is 1300 dollars. Anyone who pays that is likely a poor person living in a 600 square foot apartment with a bad job.

People who don't know how to manage money spend that kind of money on this reseller bullshit.

I'm not OP but you're a moron with this shitposting.

Get the cheapest clone like China ver everdrive works with pretty much all games (except DSP and SuperFX games) works fantastic.

I'm sure the original French was "Alors, vieille branche, on prend racine?" which would translate as "Say, old chap -lit. old branch-, are you putting down roots".

I guess they used "faggot", as in bundle of firewood, to keep with the tree puns, even if it might come as more offensive. You know, Cocktail's English translations were done by the French team so they always were kinda approximative.

I always prefered Lucas Arts' point-n-click anyway, even though Cocktail Vision's games were very popular here, because they were "Made in France".

Why is it that so many 8bit and 16bit era video games had timers even when they served no specific purpose?
8 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Design taken from arcade games. Gotta keep those coins coming.

Even if the time limits are too generous to ever be a threat on consoles they still serve a purpose. They are just badly designed for that purpose.

The only scenario I completely agree with your thought is when console games put a time limit on things like character and stage select screens.
>>
>>3297123
most games on a timer gave you bonus score for extra time you had left.

Why dis so many Japanese games seem to be completely in English?

I got a Japanese copy of the original Wario Land today, all the options, level names, and everything else are in English. I've noticed it with a lot of games, it's always ones with hardly any text, but still, why produce the game in a foreign language? The only thing I can think of is to save on translations, but since Japan was the largest game market it seems odd to me they'd cater their games to other markets. Since there was so little text n those games would it really have cost much to translate it?
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>3296239
Because Japan was not the largest market? The entirety of Americas and England's market (the largest English ones) alone is like 5 times Japan. Have you never looked up countries economies?
>>
English characters are more legible in lower resolutions plus they're considered stylish
>>
There are a couple of considerations:

1.) English slogans are trendy, and some basic English is taught in Japanese grade schools. I guess developers figure all-English menus might appear exotic? Or maybe they're just trying to exercise players' knowledge of the English language.

2.) "Gray imports." In other words, it made games more import-friendly. The country does get a lot of tourism.
