>go to clean the lid
>red decal rubs off
Fuck fuck fuck
>cleaning yellow NES with some peroxide
Does this help fade away the yellowing or what?
Scars are badges of honor.

It's what retrobrite is made from but I used the generic salon 40. It works with the plastic but now I have a rubbed away decal even though they told me it would be fine
I've read a lot of banter here that Chinese flash carts are horrible. I've tried pic related for a while now and find it great. What's with the bad rep?
Krikzz shills and general elitists. Just don't ever try to update its firmware, not that there's currently any reason to or likely ever will be.
>>3287860
>shills
Epic
I had a Chinese Everdrive MD that bricked itself pretty early on, never heard any issues about the Super Everdrive though.
>>3287851
It says "The Best" on the cart, must be true
Times are tough and I had to sell my dreamcast for peanuts, how can I setup dreamemu or nulldc so that I can keep dreaming?
>how can I setup dreamemu or nulldc
you could have typed that into google and had your answer you airhead

Post interesting soundtracks. By this I don't mean something you just find catchy, but unique stuff.
I think the music to the Mario Artist games for N64DD are pretty cool. I don't think I've heard anything like them from other retro games.

I want to show my friend some good retro games. He pretty much solely plays on PC. I know you can emulate other systems, but he prefers PC gaming (thinks consoles are pointless, but I won't get into that). The plan is to set up a .zip file with a portable dosbox installation and a bunch of games within, with shortcuts in the main folder, then tell him "extract this to C:\Games, then move the shortcuts to wherever you keep your game shortcuts."
Normally I'd just send him all the shit I have, but he couldn't even get into Fallout 1 because he didn't like the interface, so I need to be selective.
So far, I'm thinking...
>Betrayal at Krondor
>Ultima VII
>Full Throttle
>Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers
>Exile: Escape from the Pit
What else you got, /vr/?
Thank you.

Hang about, he's a 'PC MASTER RACE' goon and he can't use the command line? No, you give him the games and tell him to figure out the DOS command line like a real PC user would. If he can't figure that how to change directories and run games from their dirs then tell him maybe he should consider something more simple. Like a CONSOLE.
>>3285043
>because he didn't like the interface
He is already spoiled by modern games. Don't bother, he doesn't really care.
He will just spout "oh those graphics look like shit, all these games must be total shit back then. So good the games are better now."
>>3286828
Or instead of wasting your time typing shit into dosbox like a fucking inefficient moron, just drag the game exes into the dosbox exe
How were older games made, exactly? I'm thinking specifically games before the 6th gen.
I have a fair understanding of how modern games are made, but how did they do it back in the day? Like, let's say you had to create a level in Super Mario Bros, did they hand-code the location of every single tile / sprite, or did they have a GUI of some kind to make it easier?
I'd love to see a documentary of some kind that explains the process.
Here's a video that explains how graphics were done in the 8-bit era.

that does not answer the question OP asked
For things very game specific (like levels or some custom formats) one of the coders used to program tool software. Tools from previous projects could sometimes be used (if the expected output was more or less similar)
ITT: Bosses that everyone dreads fighting on at least some level.
Pic related. OoT's Moldorm. You know if you don't have at least one fairy in a bottle and full hearts he is going makes you BTFO to the entrance.
The whole "room of close associates", not just Slogra.
>>3283270
What? He's the most fun boss to fight. Nothing like that huge pain-in-the-ass Moldorm.
>>3283270
Nah, maybe if you emulate and can't pull of a quick volley 100% of the time
It's Robo-Manus for me; it's fun, but I tend to freak out when he starts speeding up his pattern
Just bought a gameboy SP.
What are your top 10 games that will run on it?
Gameboy/Gameboy Color/Gameboy Advanced
>>3280776
Metroid II
Survival Kids
Fish Dude
Gargoyle's Quest
Fire pro Wrestling 2
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
Final Fantasy VI
Shantae
Mario Land 1-3
>>3280776
In no particular order:
Zelda: Link's Awakening
Metroid: Zero Mission
Wario Ware: Twisted
Astro Boy: Omega Factor
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Game Boy Camera (not really a game, but hours of fun)
Pokemon FR/LG
Zelda: Minish Cap
Super Mario Land
Golden Sun/Dark Dawn (really just one game split in two).
Also, if you enjoy Link's Awakening, play Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. They're cut from the same cloth, essentially.

>Survival Kids
Why is it that whenever I'm reminded of a game I was interested in as a kid but never got, it always ends up being horrendously overpriced? Thank god for emulation.
Is there any way to save this game? I just played it for the first time today and I'm horrible at it. You have to beat the entire thing in one sitting?
Rtfm, famicom.
>>3289601
1. You are supposed to be horrible at this when you start playing it. (git gud)
2. One sitting is a single route with 5 levels. That should take no more than an hour at worst.
3. You could savescum if you emulate.
4. Casual, millenial or whatever is the FOTM insult here on /vr/
5.
Have fun, anon. You will see progress in a few tries and it is truly a great game.
>>3289601
>I'm horrible at it
Be water, my friend.
Hey /vr/ which one of these retro handhelds do you think is better? Personally I believe that the gamegear has color and a back light screen but it doesnt work as an portable video game system because it has low battery life. The gameboy on the other hand has very good battery life but some of its games are lackluster... DEBATE!
I choose Atari Lynx
No, really
>>3289550
>Hey /vr/
>I just got here from youtube
>please validate my sense of retro cred by responding to this post
>I am totally 18 older
Fix'd.
Sup, /vr/? Curious as to your opinions on the best simultaneous coop NES titles? Pic related. Personal fav of the few.
Kung Fu Heroes
Nintendo World Cup
River City Ransom

Battletoads, Battletoads and DD.

didnt give a shit about video games in 1996.
moved out of my shit city and into a white wonderland. spent all day outside every day.

You disgust me.

it was the first time in my life at the age of 9 I could go outside without the fear of being beat up by spics. had lots of adventures with friends. forgive me senpai.
the change from miami to broward county at that time was night and day. I bet broward is full of spics now though.

Playing pic related for the first time and realizing it is ridiculously underrated. The status conditions are comical and the design for pretty much everything is amazing. How does /vr/ feel about it?
it makes my chest tighten and my heart hurt
it makes my weeny tingle
It was underrated on release, nowadays I guess we could say it's rated fairly.
Just picked this up at the flea market today, what does /vr/ think of Kung Fu Heroes?

Top quality, like your thread.

No Virtual Boy thread? Aww come on guys. Did anyone actually have one of these things when it came out? I didn't purchase one until ~2010 when I learned of it. I think this console (portable?) makes a great shelf piece, as many people don't know what it is. Especially when they hear that it was from Nintendo! I just ordered a screwdriver so I can take mine apart and fix the glitchy display. Just bought a new game for it as well, galactic pinball. I've played it before but had to sell most of my stuff when I was short on money.
So, what are the best VB games?
Teleroboxer has the best virtual feel to it in my opinion. But looking past just "how good at a virtual feel it is", what games are good?
I've been in the VB scene since 08 and I tried for years to fix my displays using the oven trick, but it never worked fully. So about a year ago I had RunnerPack do a permanent fix on my VB's displays, they've been working perfectly ever since.
I strongly recommend everyone do the same. He only charged $20, and it really is permanent.
>>3288773
OP here, I'm actually about to do the oven trick. If I don't give it a shot I may try this fix you speak of. How do I go about doing it?
>>3288781
It's slightly complicated, but there are a few pages dedicated to showing you how to do it.
That said, when I sent my displays in he told me that "baked" displays tend to be more difficult to fix. You're better off not trying the oven trick and just getting them soldered ASAP. (You can solder them yourself too, there are guides for it, but only attempt if you know what you're doing. Working VBs aren't exactly going down in value.)
