What's the best version of this to get? I much prefer the European soundtrack, so that rules out the Gems Collection on PS2 and the 1996 PC port.

The Steam one. You will need to replace the opening tracks though since there was legal bullshit.

Why has he adopted two final initials? Is it something to do with Heitor TP, the Simply Red guitarist?

Mega cd one as it has everything intact and the original physics which are changed in the pc version.

Were you tricked by the cover into renting this game from the rental store?

No, but I was tricked into buying the sequel for the Sega Saturn.

At least it has a Brian May soundtrack, I guess.

Did you know Master System outsold NES in South Korea (the good Korea)?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I just beat Donkey Kong Country 3 and I for one, find it to be the best of the three kong games.

I legitimately enjoyed this more than the first two installments. What's with the general hate?

>>
I generally hate the fact that you made this thread
>>
Personally I don't hate it, I just find it lacking on all fronts when compared to the previous installments. Especially DKC2. The soundtrack is utterly forgettable, Kiddy plays like shit, the art direction feels completely off, the bears get old really fast and it's a bit too collectathony for its own good. Neat overworld, though, and I'll always have a soft spot for Baron K. Roolenstein.

Does anyone here have the zip of these RetroArch borders? Not my pic obviously.

Also Super Game Boy thread in general. I genuinely wish more games made use of it and I wish I knew enough about Game Boy hacking to make games like Super Mario Land 2 use it.

Also does anyone here have a Super Game Boy 2? Is it worth it over the first Super Game Boy?

Super Game Boy 2 basically just had a link port so that people could trade/battle Pokemon.

Where did you find that picture, though? I thought Super GB couldn't play Game Boy Color games...
>>
>>3295569
It can't play purple carts, but it'll play the black cart games in black & white, just like a regular GB.
>>
Super Game Boy 2 plays games at the proper speed, that alone is worth the extra $5.

What are some genres that you enjoyed when you were younger, but now cannot stand.

I loved JRPGs and its sub-genres in the past, but now I cannot stand them..

Tried playing through Shining Force 2 a moment ago for nostalgia's sake, but literally could not be bothered to even get to the first battle. I just quit right there.

I'm with you, famicom. These kinds of games seem like they can only be enjoyed when you're young or NEET. Becoming a fulltime wagey absolutely destroyed this genre for me.
>>
Platformers. I used to play a ton of them when I was young but now I just need more out of a game. Except MegaMan, he will never get old.

Funny, when i was young i only could enjoy wRPG, now only jRPG. wRPG usually include big block of text, lot of exploration and complext game systems, whereas the japanese counterpart looks more balanced.

Hey /vr/ I really wanna set up an emulation station in my living room for retro games since me and my roommates don't watch TV often, but wanted to know if there's any sort of possible set up that would allow my roms to go into a 'demo play' kinda mode when no one's been playing for a while? I want it to have an arcade system kinda feel where (in a perfect set up) it would randomly demo-play games but simply picking up a controller and pressing a button would cut to the games list and allow for quick pick-up-and-play.
Is anything like this remotely possible outside of exclusively mame games?

Yeah, probably. The oracle games are much bigger. Link's Awakening might feel underwhelming if you play it right after them.

Seasons is more action-oriented and focused on fighting shit. Ages is more focused on puzzles and a bit slower paced.

Whichever style you prefer, play that one second.

What's a good, FAIRLY easy, turn-based game where you have to map shit out yourself? I really like the idea of video games where you have to make your own maps of everything, but I haven't ever played one, and while mapping in a turn-based game seems comfy, I think mapping in a real-time game sounds stressful. Plus I want to play this while I watch TV in my PJs for maximum comfort, so real-time is out.

Let's give this shit a try. Do you use RA? Let's talk about it. I'm working on DKC3 right now. Didn't even know this game had two separate hard modes.

>What the fuck is this?
A website that creates achievements for retro games. You download the emulator, play the game, get the boops.

>Don't save states ruin this?
You can turn on hardcore mode, which disables them. You get double points for that.

>Why would I care?
Hey, anything that encourages people to play older games, and to fully explore the,. Plus, it's fucking heartwarming to see the unending scroll of people playing retro on the front page.

>ACHIEVEMENTS SUCK!

A few questions about pic related, for anyone who's interested.

1. How the hell do you do even decently in combat in this? If I just hold down the arrow key, I don't turn. If I tap it rapidly, I can't do so fast enough to turn to face the enemy that's attacking me. I get one, maybe two hits in, then blow up.

2. Is there a reason to prefer the MS-DOS version over the open source remake The Ur-Quan Masters, or vice-versa?
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
1. The different ships have vastly different specifications. Your flagship starts off barebones and you shouldn't be using it to fight until you upgrade it specifically for combat.

2. I don't think so, probably not, no. I think that the original DOS version had a different soundtrack than UQM (I believe UQM uses the 3DO's music but I'm not 100% on that). Other than that I can't think of anything that isn't (subjectively) better or at least optionally changeable back to the same state as the DOS version
>>
>>3293540
1. That makes sense, but I ran into one alien, gave a peaceful response, and it attacked anyway. Should I just start over and hope I'm luckier?

2. Cool. I'll use UQM then.
>>
>>3293540
Don't forget that the DOS version doesn't have the superb voice acting
>>3293564
That was probably the Slylandro Probe, better get used to them because they're cunts to fight early on, stay away if it's a possibility

Sonic CD, from the music to the overall presentation, this game along with a few others make it the only reason to get a Sega CD.

>>
Wasnt the Sega CD really good besides a few shitty FMV games? Thats what I hear anyways, Ive never played it.
>>
>>3292616
Sonic CD felt like Sonic 1.5 I wish it was more likr 2. The controls are clunky, but overall the game is decent
>>
>>3292627
Its a true Sonic game in the style of Sonic 1. No hate for the game. Sonic 2 / 3 were like Sonic covered in frosting.

Sega CD is worth buying if you can afford getting the discs and will end up playing it. Otherwise, just emulate. The FMV games were mostly the worst. I kinda liked Ground Zero Texas and Time Gal. You have to understand there wasn't any other game like these and I hadn't seen any graphics like these at the time. Lots of people might not have had a PC yet.
