Thoughts on Mega Man Legends?
Above average.
I think it's one of those games where, from a gameplay perspective, it's lacking, but in terms of charm, atmosphere, and flavor, it's top notch.
>>3287747
I loved it as a kid, but I can see how someone who didn't play it when it was new would hate it now.
You're in the garage and these guys punch your girlfriend in the stomach. What do you do?

That hussy was just asking for it, dressing like a Jezebel.
Paciently wait them to leave in their bikes, then I open up the garage's door and start beating people randomly
ITT: Cool, lesser-known Famicom games that weren't released in the US.
Astro Fang is a great driving game that controls similar to Rad Racer, but you can fire missiles and transform into a faster car, at the expense of some handling. There are branching paths, and a shop where you can buy new weapons, like wheel spikes.
Can confirm. pretty comfy game. Played this game on an emulator only because the name sounded cool.
>>3286573
Actually looks pretty cool.
There exists a weird Monopoly-esque game themed after Mega Man characters. Only in Japan
Sup /vr/. I'm going to play every single Ultima game (including the Ultima Underworld, Savage Empire, and Martian Dreams) in order.
1. Has anyone here done this? Any advice before I start out?
2. What's the in-universe chronological placement of the two Worlds of Ultima games?
I bet you don't finish one game.
>>3285167
Why? I've played 4 and 6 all the way through before.
In-universe chronological order is simply release order for everything up to 9, spinoffs included. As for advice, the main one is that really 1-3 aren't worth playing.
Do you guys still think the PSP is a versatile Emulation/PS1 device even after 10 years?
Not for SNES, but I use it for anything else 2nd, 3rd, 4th gen and some arcade stuff like cps.
We have a PSP thread like every week
>>3283257
for PS1:
it's great for anything that doesn't use L2/R2, otherwise its shit.
For SNES: all your favorite games have massive slowdown like Donkey Kong Country.
for NES: pretty great
for SEGA/CD: perfection
>>3283257
Best for the price. But some emulators have major-to-minor frame drops or screen tearing.
I also don't like the screen's resolution. 240p stuff doesn't fit on it well without blur.
Because of that, I wouldn't consider it the end-all handheld emulation device.
Images from old games that trigger you.
I'll start with a classic.

I liked that fight. When I was a kid it took me forever to figure out how to beat him. And when I did, it was an accident.
Anyway, as I said in a different thread, the sun from SMB3 used to bother me.
this used to frighten me when i was younger

Is it me or is the SA group the only one doing the translations anymore? It also seems like they've slowed down a lot.
Got into this series recently. It's pretty good. Them trying to beat Adventure Island was a treat.
We /jp/ now?
A prototype of the canceled "Ecco II: Sentinels of the Universe" for the Sega Dreamcast has been dumped by hiddenpalace via an Anonymous contributor.

Barcade New Haven, CT. I think I'm in love. Anyone go regularly? Just went yesterday and I'm ready to make this a weekly visit.
No pins?
Dropped.

I live 30 minutes from Galloping Ghost.
There are a couple in new york, one is nearby but I never go there.
What if Sega reskinned NiGHTS and Reala to be Super Sonic and Super Knuckles, while the two kids where regular Sonic?
WOULD SONIC INTO DREAMS SAVE THE SATURN IN THE WEST?
>>3295965
It would be blasted as a shitty spinoff and given a 3/10
>What if Sega reskinned NiGHTS and Reala to be Super Sonic and Super Knuckles, while the two kids where regular Sonic?
Warm outside.
>>3295965
You realize on the Christmas nights disc you can play as sonic and go through the nights levels and boss fight first boss... And no it didn't save the Saturn or even get enough attention for them to make it a full game.
What are the best versions of the retro final fantasy games?
I bought a psp and I'm thinking of playing them like
1:psp
2:psp
3:psp
4:psp
5:gba emulated
I've already played 6 and 7
8:torn between pc or Playstation
9:torn between pc or playstation
Go full psp.
>>3295669
Pretty much this. Stay away from the Playstation versions of the older titles since there's a ton of loading and it's annoying.
>>3295656
A lot of the later ports are really watered down or are of questionable quality control by comparison. If they didn't drop the difficulty level, then they shoehorned in a bunch of unwanted content, or mucked up the translation. Personally, I'd go this route:
>FF1 and 2 - PS1 (Origins)
I can't necessarily recommend the original NES / Famicom versions due to the extensive number of bugs and unimplemented features. While those versions are playable, you're kind of missing out on a full experience. There are bugfix patches for FF1 though.
The GBA and PSP (and some mobile) releases of FF1 nuke the D&D-esque spell system and give your characters conventional MP pools. Additionally, the difficulty level is decreased between both FF1 and FF2. The GBA ports create further frustration with bright palettes and cramped backgrounds. The PSP versions have some poorly upscaled graphics, especially enemy bitmaps. It's like some of the assets were handled by entirely different teams.
>FF3 - Famicom (and there are a couple of complete translation patches, if you can't read Japanese)
The DS version was an interesting concept, but too many sacrifices had to be made due to hardware limitations. For instance, enemy formations have been reduced to a maximum of three enemies. (Although enemy stats were consequently beefed up as a result)
>FF4 - PS1 (Chronicles) or the original Super Famicom "Hard Type"
There never was a release referred to as "Hard Type" - this is just a codename for the original version of FF4, as Square later released a couple of diluted interpretations of the game. The PS1 Chronicles port is based on the original game, so there's something to consider if you can't read Japanese. The only complete translation patches I've seen for FF4 Japan take a ton of liberties, so I'm not sure if that's something that would bother you.
(continued)
Nigger what are your favorite retro arcade games? I think Star Castle is severely underrated.
Nothing beats classic Millipede for me.
Some people complained that they ramped the difficulty up too much by making enemy patterns and appearances so chaotic, but isn't that the point? Everybody had already mastered Centipede, and Centipede's mechanics were so exploitable that you could easily set up conditions for playing the game indefinitely.
Of course, there's also Gauntlet and Gauntlet II. I'm more debated on Gauntlet II though. The difficulty was clearly balanced to be as greedy as possible, because food is made to appear so disproportionately late into the game that you'll literally die from starvation if you don't feed the machine more quarters.
Punch Out
>>3295557
Yar's Revenge started out as a Star Castle port. Played Gravitar?
I have some arcade machines and it's honestly hard to say what makes a game special in a cabinet... I love Cadash so much and so so so many fighting games but I'll say Tempest for the color vector monitor.
Hi /vr/... With the up and coming hype for virtual reality headsets, I want to know your stories with virtual reality headsets. Pic related
instead of virtual boy in the original thread, I mean to put "the virtual boy" sorry...
The Virtual Boy barely even qualifies as virtual reality. The VB is basically just a 3D screen, modern VR has much more going on behind the scenes to create a far more immersive experience.
>>3295198
What are you talking about? The first post was phrased perfectly.
>>3295251
Ok, lets change the topic to, experiences with virtual reality... I probably should have just posted this in /v/...
So, real talk for a second, does anyone have any genuinely good memories from these guys? I feel like an outlier here.
Heroes 3 was kickass.
>>3294635
They made pic related, so yes.
Army men nigger
This game is fucking brilliant.
>>3294520
I love skies of arcadia, but I wouldn't call it brilliant. It's flawed and very cliche, but yet at the same time does it in a way that's so perfect you can overlook the flaws and enjoy it as a very good rpg.
Wild Arms 3 is either comparable or flat out better than Skies of Arcadia in every way.
Also shares some of the same development staff.
Also Aika got raped hard
