On a scale of 1 to Mail, how popful is your favorite vidya girl?
I guess she's a Mail on that scale because Mail is my favorite vidya girl
>>3294448
Correct answer!
>>3294439
so can we all agree that she's pretty much /vr/'s waifu
Playing some Xbone or PS4 when suddenly Segata bursts through your door and orders you to play Sega Saturn. What do?
Continue playing Alienation because I've beat everything that interests me on the Saturn already.
>>3293904
Quickly throw those away, turn Sega Saturn on. Bulk Slash.
GAYY BONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER
Does anybody...ANYBODY enjoy under water stages in video games?
I do.
DKC had GOAT underwater stages. What are some other games that did it right?
Although I find the game "meh", Vectormans 2nd stage which was mostly underwater was pritty gud.
Why are the Goemon games so damn great?
Fun atmosphere and good dev team.
Because Impact is the best
>>3292217
interesting characters, whimsical setting, lots of minigames and villagers have funny dialogue
Konami had their chance to bring the DS game over but made once again huge statement by ignoring it. I'm still mad about it
What are /vr/'s thoughts on emulation?
It's something that exists and has varying degrees of functionality depending on the system and game. A lot of people are benefited from it, being able to play games without owning them or the systems in different other devices.
Filters are silly as what really matters is the physical screen you're using.
Great. Not as good as the real hardware, but being able to play games is always a great thing.
>easy access to 60hz games when living in 50hz territories
>online play
>translations, romhacks
>easy access to expensive games, games unavailable in your region, or simply just insanely rare or expensive (for these last two points, you can do the same on console but only by buying a 100 bucks flashcart.. per system)
>Play with any pad you want. Don't like the squareness of the NES pad? Use a PS1 pad instead.
>Have to leave quickly? Can just save on the fly and come back to it later, no need to leave the console turned on
These are facts.
Imagine if Nintendo stayed true to their deal with Sony(ie: didn't go to bed with Phillips to father the bastard child that was the CD-I)and the Playstation was produced as intended.
I speculate the console would've singlehandedly dominated the market and laid waste to the competition. Sega Saturn would've never seen the light of day, and it's possible the company would've been acquired by Sony or Nintendo.
Would the console have been too successful for its own good? Would Nintendo have to be forcibly broken up to prevent a monopoly?
I welcome your opinions, /vr/.
How was the whole deal with Sony thing? Is there any actual documentation on the matter, or just stuff written by journalists?
I remember reading Nintendo signed first, didn't saw the small letter which said every CD game for the Nintendo PlayStation would go 100% profit to Sony, how true is that?
I don't know anyway, it's hard to imagine what would have happened, the Nintendo PS would have still been a Super Nintendo with CD capabilities, I think eventually Sega would release the Saturn to compete against it, since the Sony PS1 wouldn't exist yet.
>>3291791
>cd media in the mid 90s
segacd with better marketing and less shitt FMV. probably more animu fmv instead
>>3291802
>Is there any actual documentation on the matter, or just stuff written by journalists?
Almost all my information comes from articles on the matter. I've been unable to locate any primary sources or other direct links.
So have anyone ever played Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on the PS1?
It improved on everything from the first game and is overall better
>>3291225
Worst version of CoS
Even for GBA is better.
>>3291272
>GBA
GBC, sorry
>>3291275
Nah mate you aren't wrong, the GBA one is better than the PSX garbage too. Hell, the PC version got it beat.
So after avoiding this game every time I ever saw it (because I believed the meme that it was "bad"), I finally got around to playing it.
All I can say is:
>>>Holy shit.
Maybe it's because I expected the game to be extremely bad that I enjoyed it, but I really don't see what all the fuss is about. The only flaws I can really comment on are the insane amount of boss hp, and issues with distinguishing between background and foreground occasionally. In the end, aside from a few minor gripes, the game has excellent music, great responsiveness, and is challenging, but not entirely unfair.
What other games do you guys believe get a bad wrap but don't quite live up to their reputation of shit when put to the test?
Its probably one of my favorite NES games. It is just fucking incredibly difficult, but lots of NES games can be. Doesnt make it bad
why did The Cuck ruin this game's reputation
>>3288496
Agreed, Silver Surfer is great. My only complaint is that your rate of fire is too low, and tapping becomes uncomfortable. This is of course remedied with an autofire controller, though.
>Hydro-City
>Hydro-Ossity
Which is it /vr/?
>>3288492
>Hydro-Ossity
u wot m8? You don't make the 'O' sound twice.
Anyway, it's Hydrocity (hi-drocity) because fuck you it sounds cool. But it's Sando polis, not Sandopolis.
>>3288492
Whatever you want it to be.
>Say-Gay
>Seh-Gay
>See-Guh
>Suh-Gah
which is it?
Do you collect for any systems, /vr/? Which ones?
At the moment the only retro consoles I'm building a collection for are PS1 and Atari 2600. I also buy the odd N64 game if it's a fair deal and a game I know I'll have fun with.
I planned to start an NES/SNES collection years ago, and bought a few classics for each just before the massive price inflation started. Unfortunately, now it's too expensive for me to justify.
>>3287758
game gear.
getting all of them is looking to be achievable here soon. also original game boy. they are small and a briefcase fits an entire library just about. but I do have most all the SNES titles that I want some Ill just have to wait for like super turrican 2 oR a few others.
None. I really don't understand the point of collecting, if by collecting you mean to amass literally every game and peripheral ever released for said hardware, regardless of whether or not you have any interest in playing the console's full library.
The only games I physically invest in are those that are reasonably affordable, that I want to play, and that can be easily maintained in working condition. I usually won't bother to invest in real hardware if there are decent emulators available, although fifth generation tends to be plugin-based nonsense whose compatibility leaves something to be desired.
I collect snes, but have been having trouble starting up my collection. I dislike buying off eBay for various reasons, least of which is I can't inspect the game myself and verify its legit, seems too easy nowadays for people to get repros of these old carts to make money. So I've resorted to dealing with my retro collector community and have only recently started running into people I can trust.
Is there a single good thing about Mega Man 3 other than the introduction of Protoman?
>>3287406
Just about as good as any other megaman game i gusse
Oh boy another shitpost thread. I'll bite, I guess.
>adds Slide ability
>adds Rush
>adds Protoman
>MM3 has a great soundtrack (All the MM's but mm8 do so that's a bit irrelevant I guess)
>Adds a surprise by having you go through 4 of the levels, reworked to be much more difficult, where you fight 2 bosses from MM2 in each (that shit was pretty cool)
>Fliptop motherfucker was added to give you free shit in some levels, you can abuse it by going down a ladder and back up til you get what you want in some levels
>Plenty of Energy Tanks around to help out those playing it for the first time
>MM3 has different music for Wily stage bosses, and it's a really good song even if it's a short loop. Whereas MM2 just had regular boss fight theme, which is the worst boss theme of the entire series. Even MM1 had different music for the Wily stage bosses! Wtf Capcom?
I love all Megaman games (except 8), but 3 has always been my favourite. There's just something charming about it for me.
>>3287428
Mah nigga. 3 is the best of the series.
How good are you at Fighting Games
THE BEST THERE EVER WAS
Actually I'm pretty terrible.
There's nothing wrong with playing the CPU.
>>3286727
I'm only good at Street Fighter and Killer Instinct. Usually average at any other.
What went wrong?

Hi,
I have problem with a sega megadrive (genesis) game. I have cleaned the connectors both in game and console and its still not working. Whats the next step?
1. Throw archaic hardware and software in the trash
2. Download and configure an emulator
3. Plug in the controller of your choice
4. Download roms
5. Play games
>>3297249
you need to put it in the microwave to reboot the microchips
>>3297249
I see the problem, OP. You're trying to stick Famicom carts into there.
What are some examples of old video game companies that released multiple standalone consoles?
Outside of Nintendo, Sega, and Atari, I'm not seeing many. Most were one hit wonders or had sequel consoles released in very limited supply or specific regions only.
NEC and SNK, summer.
>>3296158
the only other ones i can think of is Sony, but their post-ps1 systems came out after 2000
>>3296175
>summer
SNK is interesting because it was a CD based console, right?
>NEC
The second console only came out in Japan. So, you're the summer here, buddy.
