The game is based off of D&D; special abilities can be gotten through consumable items and at towards the very end of Baldur's Gate 2, you get some High Level Abilities to soup you up.

I don't know of a mod that explicitly makes a Barbarian class, but you can make a multiclass Fighter/Mage, Fighter/Thief or Fighter/Cleric to at least give you some spells and other utilities into your fight. Otherwise, you have to rely on equipment and consumables for anything more substantial.

But there are probably some kits online, I just never really delved into that.

I did it a couple years ago without any experience emulating PS1, and got it up and running without much hassle.

Remember you need the BIOS file for anything to work. Just getting the emulator and the game .iso won't work alone.

I didn't have to mess around with any of the video plugins, so you can probably ignore that initially. Just follow the instructions and you should be golden.

Look up psxfin, download that, plus a Vib Ribbon iso from emuparadise or your preferred site, done. You just open it up in the program.

The PS3/PSN version is good too though, if you want to go that route. No input lag and the CD functionality is all there.

Mortal Kombat or Mortal Kombat 2. Both were massively popular during their era, despite both being really bad games. Even the MK fans consider them pretty bad these days, due to the piss-poor AI. They were both multi-million selling games, but these days you can barely give them away since no one really wants them.
