What would a setting that combines Celtic and Hindu mythology be like?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Confused.
>>
>>55273185
You sure? There's a common Indo-European backbone to work from

And aside from that

>Celts and Hindus had priests as the top caste
>Both believed in reincarnation
>Both had legends of champions who rode chariots
>>
It'd be interesting to see how the Celtic deities became multi incarnation. But it would also be interesting to see Celtic "KICK THE ASS OF THE GODS AND EXILE THEM" in Hindu mythos too.

I feel like a Glorantha thread. How about you?

Six Ages is officially in alpha. What are the odds of a release in Q2 2018? What's the weirdest thing to happen to you in a Glorantha related game? What's your favorite obscure deity? Why, if the Lunar Empire is more interesting than the Orlanthi, does it never get any focus? Why does the artist of Prince of Sartar suck?
30 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
>Why does the artist of Prince of Sartar suck?

Because Glorantha is an aged universe that would have died decades ago were it not for a brief bit of life thanks to KoDP, but now is even more aged and decrepit?

It should be glad it has any artist whatsoever. Hell, it should be glad it even has a system.
>>

>aged universe
What does that mean?
>>
>>55273104
It's 50 years old. Not all of those years have been glorious.
The halfwit above does have a point however. The fact that it is still a thing is quite miraculous (which is good, bc glorantha is pretty neat).

Post art of arcane technology here, or even ideas for arcane powered technology.

Logically speaking (you know, insofar as logic applies in this case), being a race of tiny, immortal beings who are presumably omnivorous and live in the woods fairies would engage in hunting. Being immortal they probably don't procreate much so there's no point in forming large communities, so agriculture isn't an option.

On the other hand, I have a hard time picturing fairies hunting, or even eating flesh. Their whole schtick is being youthful and innocent and childlike and all that and for once I'm NOT looking to show how clever and twisted and a Neil Gaiman fanboy I am by turning them into monsters. I want to play the Victorian image mostly straight. Or at least as straight as possible while making them fit into a fantasy setting, so I can't have them just have access to infinite amounts of conjured sweets and tea or however it was Victorian fairies probably got their nourishment (I doubt a lot of worldbuilding went into those drawings, honestly).

So how do fairies acquire whatever small amounts of meat they partake of?
28 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Simple, they hunt bugs.

Bugs are sufficiently far from humans or cute animals that it doesn't feel upsetting to imagine a tiny lady pouncing on one and snacking down on it.

(Also where do you get this notion that fairies would be omnivorous if they aren't grimdark fairies? Why wouldn't they just be herbivores who live off of picked fruits?)
>>
>>55272755
>Also where do you get this notion that fairies would be omnivorous
This. Why are you insisting that fairies MUST be omnivores, OP? Is it because it would otherwise be unrealistic for a race of immortal, magical beings that defy the square-cube law to get their required protein?
>>
>>55272887
I don't like all herbivorous or all carnivorous races. Not entirely sure why, it repulses me on some basic level. Don't like Paolini elves, don't like Bosmer. Some sort of balance is needed.

I also think it's a neat image. Plus, it'd explain where they got good with bows and arrows from.

>Go back in time to the Middle Ages

Actually, it would be difficult to recreate them using the tech of the middle ages.

i know nothing about the subject but they probably didn't have the metallurgy to make a decent bicycle, so it would be a neat curiosity and nothing more.

If a King could afford all the meat and protein and gold, could he pay his knights to bodybuild and get massive gains?
73 posts and 13 images submitted.
>>
>>55271984
Probably. But if I were king, I think I'd rather they spend that time in things like weapon training, horsemanship, and how to quickly and accurately assess threats.
>>
>>55271984
>bodybuilding
>not strength training
>>
Modern body building is born out of an understanding of modern medicine, anatomy, and training techniques. Generally though 'lifting big things makes you stronger' is understood the details are lost on older civilizations.

And also pure bulk is not wanted for combat, there is a difference between aesthetic and functional strength.

Hey, /tg/, I'm playing a pretty high fantasy game with some friends (I'm the GM) and very recently, my players have killed a champion of the Gods. They did this for political reasons, as he stood to rally the common man against their feudal overlords, to whom my players are allied, but that's neither here nor there. They assassinated the champion (already weakened by a botched poisoning attempt) and fled for high heavens, HOWEVER, they then regretted it, realising that he's not some batshit warlord, and that he actually was a champion and now they fear either A) Godly Retribution or B) The wrath of whatever he was here to face.

Some shit happens in between then and now, but the players have since basically resurrected him, by resurrecting a player whose essence was linked with his, however, as this was not a direct resurrection of the champion, it stands to reason that he should now be toting some form of disadvantage, but I can't for the life of me think of anything creative/fun.

I come to you for help my friends, so please, let discussion ensue.

>tl;dr
>Healthy, young champion of God's killed
>Soul-linked individual died and is raised, letting champion piggy-back the resurrection
>What would be a creative, non-trite issue/issues for the raised champion to face for 'half-resurrecting', as it were?

For all that it matters, the champion is a 27 human male with the tiniest drop of angel's blood (distant, famous ancestor was an Aasimar equivalent) who has proved to be an incredible statesman and a competent swordsman, who feels great fidelity with cottars, serfs and men of the lands, in spite of noble birth.

*27 year old

God damn, sorry
>>
>>55271808
>>55271848
Simple.

While the Human side of him was slightly weakened by the revival, the Angel side was unaffected, and "filled in the blanks" of his soul that didn't make it with him; he's now slightly more Angel than he was before.

This isn't all sunshine and gumdrops, however. He is now sufficiently Angelic that he has an Angel's weaknesses, such as taking more damage from unholy sources.

Long story short, I really want to make up workable PC stats for tanukis as part of a 5e oriental fantasy setting. What do anons think of this current stat-block? Also, I want to give them a racial feat to expand their spell-like abilities, ala Svirfneblin, but what spells would be appropriate?

Tanuki
Ability Score Modifiers: +2 Wisdom, +1 Charisma
Size: Medium
Speed: 30 feet, Climb 15
Vision: Darkvision
Tanuki Trickery: You can cast the Minor Illusion cantrip with this trait. At 3rd level, you can cast Disguise Self as a 1st level spell once per long rest with this trait. In both cases, Charisma is used as the casting ability score.
Tanuki Transformations: You are a shapeshifter who can freely assume the form of an inanimate object and then revert to your normal form. As an action, you can transform into tools or a weapon by using this ability; you can’t move in such a form, but can be used by another character. In weapon form, attacks made with you count as magical for ignoring damage resistance. In tool form, characters may use the tools as if they had proficiency in the requisite skill.
Tanuki Slam: You have a slam attack, which is a natural weapon you can wield as an unarmed strike. This slam attack inflicts 1d6 + Str modifier Bludgeoning damage, and counts as Magical for purposes of damage resistance. You can use a Tanuki Slam attack even if your hands are occupied. This racial ability does not grant you an Extra Attack.

do female Tanuki get the slam attack
>>
>>55271192
I also made semi-optional rules for a shapeshifting racial trait to add to the abov e statblock:

Hengeyokai: You belong to a race of magical beasts that can assume partially or wholly humanoid form, as well as revert to your true bestial shape when it suits you. As an action, you can shift into any one of your three forms.

Hybrid Form is your default form. It functions as normal for a character.

In your Human Form, you gain Advantage on all Charisma (Deception) checks made to pass yourself off as human. It otherwise functions as Hybrid Form.

In your Beast Form, which is determined by your race, your game statistics are replaced by the statistics of the beast, but retaining your alignment, personality, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma scores. You also retain all of your skill and saving throw proficiencies, in addition to gaining those of the beast; if you and the beast have the same proficiency and the beast’s bonus is higher than yours, you use the beast’s bonus.

Changing shapes does not alter your current hit points, maximum hit points, or hit dice.

You can remain in any of these three forms as long as you wish, but must consciously choose to change shapes.

You can change shapes once at 1st level, twice at 5th level, and thrice at 11th level. You regain all expended uses of this trait when you complete a long rest.

If you have exhausted your uses of shapeshifting, you can revert back to hybrid form, but you cannot then change again into beast or human form.

For a Tanuki, use the stats for a Raccoon for your Beast Form.

This is a bit more Mario than mythological, I admit it, but I was hoping there was a way to make it balanced.

Racial Feat: Flying Leaf
Prerequisite: Tanuki
Effect: You gain a Fly speed of 15 feet.

Yes. It's a Mario-style tail slap attack, why wouldn't they have one?

Anyone have experience of military style wargaming?
I want to set up an operational level wargame where players command brigades down to platoon level but not individual soldiers or tanks.
I also want to use real world topographical maps with hexes where each hex represents say 1km and NATO symbol counters for the units.
I cannot find anywhere online to get hold of this stuff. Can anyone suggest any ideas as to how I can go about making this happen?

Most hex and chit games operate this way, OP.

The cynical part of me says this 'overtime' is just so Chaos can get another chance to win and push the narrative the way GW wants, but the realist in me knows its probably because they want it to end on the 30th Anniversary.

Where are Yanks right now? Especially the xenosfags who are anti-Chaos? You're right on the cusp of taking control of 'The Decay of Hope' from those Chaos bastards. Help the Imperium out! Crush Chaos!

On a related note: any thoughts on how soon the next big campaign will be coming up? GW seems to be playing pretty close to the chest on this one.

>because they want it to end on the 30th Anniversary.
That.... is actually a good point OP.

Considering they just 'reprinted the inspiring issue of the Imperium's victory at Macragge over the Tyranid menace', the general 'oh ffs GW's going to try and rig this planet in favor of Chaos, and declare the 3-3 tie a victory for Chaos forces' mentality a lot of pro-Imperium anti-Chaos anons have right now might be misplaced.

Then again, I may just be too optimistic about the honesty and trustworthiness of GW's writing staff at the moment.
>>
Question for anons:

The painting side for this week's mission says "Lords of War and Terrain", right? Does the terrain need to currently available in the store to count, or can I paint some of my old unpainted tank traps from ages back and have that count?
>>
>>55270276
>any thoughts on how soon the next big campaign will be coming up? GW seems to be playing pretty close to the chest on this one.
Honestly, depending on who wins Konor (and assuming GW doesn't pull something out of their ass to claim that the Imperium won all the battles but lost the war), I can see the next campaign being either the Imperium trying to push Mortarion and his Death Guard out of the 'Scourge Stars', or if Chaos does win, Macragge Round 2.

No idea when that will be, but I doubt we'll be seeing any xenos-centered campaigns until next year at least.
