We often get "where would you choose to live in 40k" and I think that has been done to death.
But what would be the best place to live/best person to be in Warhammer Fantasy? Pre-Age of Sigmar of course. It seems that unlike with 40k there's really nowhere that's safe
>>55259388
Any kind of middle/gentry class Empire mook in a city it seems. One of the reasons Fantasy always stuck out to me when I first got into the hobby was how moderate the grimderp was in comparison to 40k. Life seems like it may have even been enjoyable if you were just some dude.
Being Bostonian nobility sounds comfy as fuck.

Why do Eldar suck so much? They were suppose to be one of the major players in the War in Heaven but Necrons or Krorks would kick their ass. The Eldar Empire controlled the galaxy for millions of years yet they didn't do a single thing about the Necrons and the only thing they did about the Orks was make sure Waaaghs didn't get too big. Why?

Hello guys! I'm here seeking ideas for a roguish campaign which takes place on a city full of (rich) politician wizards.
Battles in the shadows, trickery and thievery. What kind of conflicts this story could have? What kind of heists? Anyone here already DMed something like that?
Feed me with your ideas, /tg/!
Well, the heists could be interesting. For one, if everyone is a wizard, no-one is. If you're in a city full of mages, you'll protect your shit with magical measures that counter magical measures other mages will bring. So in a way, a normal non-mage could have an easier time, at least slightly.
As for heists... well, spellbooks would probably be valuable. Research notes too. Anything that one wizard has that another also wants. Spell research probably particularly important with the politics.
For example, Wizard Bamboozino has proposed a new magical ward of his design be cast on the city borders, and he will develop it within two weeks for substantial research funds. However, Wizard Alfgand doesn't like Bamboozino and hires you to steal the ward research notes and bring them to him. Bamboozino gets shit on and sanctioned for not providing any results at all, and Alfgand can modify the wards slightly and submit them as his shit.
>>55259097
Depends on your setting. Is it a modern day setting with wizards? Or is it more fantasy? For a modern setting, perhaps the PCs might have to steal some magic artifacts away from non-magic scientists/researchers/government in order to preserve their existence/secrets.
Is it modern? I always had this idea that I never used floating casinos (already named some "Ivory tower " and "the OZ")runned by wizards each wizard has his own turf to protect
Remember the good ol days?
>>55259045
woah this thing is really huge
did you have one in your deck anon? If yes, how did you play around his ability?
Im interested in old MtG, I only joined 4/5 years ago
>>55261051
>how did you play around his ability?
Back then, if you managed to bring this into play, by that point you would likely only need to swing once to end the game.
>>55261051
These kids today with their collector numbers and their newfangled tap symbol. Twenty Black Lotuses and twenty Plague Rats. Now that’s real Magic.
Is Numenera any good?
Tempted to buy into it, the setting reminds me of planescape, the cards system seems good, and the cypher system seems nice.
Is it worth it?
>>55259042
>cards system
What? Numenera has cards you can buy as nerd-luxury goods, but they have precisely zero impact on the game. They're there if you need to produce random creatures/numenera or just want to reference them.
>>55259104
Which I fucking love. Having stuff like that takes the game to a next level for me, as I have a lot more ability to introduce things easily.
But is the game good?
>>55259235
In d&d sessions I would have a collection I made of items (about 15 pages) that I found online and created myself so that I could pull something interesting into the game that isn't half assed at any moment.
Hi all,
I'm trying to make a game, but I want to make sure that I'm being original in my ideas, so people will like what I'm doing. Do any of you know of a game that uses custom D8s, mass miniature combat, collectible cards and cover rules. I know that some games use a few of those elements, But is there already one that uses all of them?
>It's another "amateur game dev more concerned with originality than quality" episode.
My favorite.
>>55258639
After a certain point the drive for originality becomes pointless complexity for complexity's sake. Your idea definitely sounds like that. Always remember a lot of elements in games become common because they work well, and if it aint broke dont try to fix it.
>>55258639
No, but that sounds like a pretty bad premise, so maybe there's a reason why I can't think of anything like that.
Sup /tg/, I'm looking to get some advice on DMing games now. I haven't been a DM/GM in a few years, last time I did anything was back when 3.5 was still the go-to game.
Now, I am planning on GMing a game of Mutants and Masterminds 3rd edition for some of my friends, and I would appreciate any advice for a relatively new GM. Programs to use for note taking, fair encounter design, general plot advice, etc.
In return, I'll dump some nice art for characters and locations.
Focus on saying "Yes" more than "No." You'll get a lot more fun and craziness that way.
M&M is all about unfair encounters. iirc the adventure in the back of the book has two villains with an almost unbeatable wombo combo. The trick is that the players survive the encounter to then think about what can be done to beat their opponents the next time. Kinda like how super hero fights go.
>>55259178
I'm still reading through the whole GM book, are there some one-shot encounters I can have the players do so we can all learn the system more?
And I remember the golden rule of try to say 'yes, but...' instead of 'no'.
So even if the players lose the fight, they don't lose the game, right? The villains just fuck off somewhere while gloating, or a real big shot hero shows up to save them?

The reason most of the Tyranid Fleet hasn't arrived is because the Squats are currently fighting all of them. The smaller tendrils which make it are those lucky enough to survive the Squats.
Cawl is a heretic and the Primaris are all going to turn traitor.
>>55257762
The High Lords of Terra are secretly followers of Chaos & know that if the Emperor dies then the Star Child shit happens or he gets reborn stronger. They keep the Golden Throne active so that doesn't happen. Emperor himself both made the problems on the throne & is deliberately attracting the Tyranids so he can finally be reborn.
Fellow DMs, lets have a Voice acting thread
what kinds of ranges do you have?
do you have training methods to become better at it?
>mostly just vocal exercises and lost of practice
do you have different voices for each NPC, a generic one for each brand of NPC, just the important ones, or don't even try?
>I usually try to give each brand of NPC a different voice type, Shopkeepers sound different from blacksmiths, but all the shopkeepers sound the same. it gives enough information that the players know basically who's talking without me needing to spell it out.
I fucking hate voice acting at the table. I don't know why bit it annoys me so much
>>55257746
Without practice it usually get corny, but with a bit of exercise and work it can get very fun.,
>>55257710
Voice acting is useful tool, but many players forget that there are great benefits of just doing mannerisms, or sometimes just describing what happens with your character.
I have a friend who is not really a great actor, or performer, but his descriptions are always on point, though he does a "narrator" point of view that helps with it.
What do you guys believe the strongest race in Tamriel is?

spamming /v/ and here, cool
After 7 years of the 40k rpgs, World of Darkness, Edge of the Empire, and some FATE my group is finally trying Pathfinder for the first time and after about 4 sessions I have to say I'm somewhat perplexed at the system's popularity.
Compared to most of the systems we've played, Pathfinder doesn't feel anywhere as intuitive in its rules or its breakdown of skills and attributes. It IS fun once it gets going, but we've had to stop things and recheck the rulebook a much larger a number of times than we have had to with any other system, and the concept of using Pathfinder for anything besides specifically dungeon crawling seems like it would end terribly. I don't think you should need a 300+ page rulebook to do basic roleplaying though. I wanna come up with cool ideas and have simple systems to determine the outcomes of those cool ideas. Instead coming up with a cool idea in Pathfinder means stopping the game for 10 minutes while you look up some set of obscure rules in the horribly formatted rules books, spend another 10 minutes arguing over how to interpret it, and then 9 times out of 10 being told you can't do the thing or it's extremely disadvantageous to even attempt it, so just shut up and spam your full-round attack again.
Honestly Pathfinder's mechanics remind me more of a boardgame's rules (designed to do a specific thing in a fun way and dropping sense if need be) rather than a rpg (more simulationist and theoretically applicable to a number of different types of campaigns).
Am I missing something about the system?
You're missing about 6-7 years of playing D&D 3rd non-stop until all that shit is burnt into your brain like muscle memory.
>>55256943
What amazes me is how you can just change the name of the rule set out week-after-week, and still get so many replies. We should really start screen capping these, just to see how many variations we can get stacked up in one image.
>>55256943
>Am I missing something about the system?
Yes. You have to be conditioned first by years of 3.5, then by years of Pathfinder into thinking that it's good. Otherwise, you won't be able to enjoy it.
Drop it as fast as you can and switch to 5e.
What does /tg/ know about the Aethera campaign setting and their new world called City of 7 Seraphs?
Is this stuff any good or just a Planescape knock-off?
>>55256854
It has some cool art, at least.
