Unknown Armies is a game about people meddling with powers they likely neither understand nor deserve, seen through a lens of humanocentric cosmic urban horror. The game will take your meat puppets to the depths of magick, the occult underground, your own sanity and the human condition as you pursue your greatest desires.

That said, in my experience the game is best experienced going in blind, but veterans to the system are welcome all the same. The game is very intimate and heavy on roleplaying, so i expect ability to portray a fairly whole human person through your character. As a GM i am heavy on atmosphere and tone, almost as if i'm fantasizing about being a film director, and in this case the one i'm going for is urban mystery combined with slice-of-life elements. If you have a penchance for conspiracy theories, deeply flawed human beings and sociology, this game will fit you like a glove-hole.

The actual details pertaining to the location of your misfortunate events will be discussed in Session 0, where we'll create our characters, pin down locations, relationships and whatnot to form the general framework and setpieces for the game.

On my setting, its based on space, so there were some great space empires, disapointgly, I am not good with names, but its no biggie they are some background stuff.

The Empire of Humanity, formely the Galactic Empire, was the most recent great empire, thru some other nations led by man exist, they don't claim being the succesor of that Empire, there is a sentiment among men, that humanity will rise again.

Most of the empires try assert their strength before deciding to annex, make it into tributary state,protectorate it or bring under its trading system
>What is their legal system like?
Depends on each individual world, some are trials, some are decided by duels, but the dragons had a really retarded system for the sake of being obtuse.
>How successful are they?
Most of the really big ones claim a chunk of the multiverse.

Depends on the world aswell, for some is Matrix hopping, gladitorial fights, "illegal" races,slavery and drugs.
>How true is it?
People sell their bodies to have their concience sent into a digital dimention, in a one way trip to an unknown realm where they can say goodbye to all sorts of problems.

Also, the Empire decriminalised drag and urban racing, with 3 points.

>If you race the in a place that didn't had anyone other than the fellow racers (observers do not count), the race is not illegal
>Not enforced but appreciated:film it so it can used as defence in court.

The empire has badder shit to engage, so thrill seekers are ignored as long as they don't cause an accident, or risk one.

Warmasters Triumvirate is an attempt at creating yet another 40k AU. The Primarchs have changed, and instead of appointing a single Warmaster upon returning to Terra, the Emperor is critically wounded on Ullanor. In order to make sure the Great Crusade continues, the Warmasters' Triumvirate is put in place. Thread prompt: What are some rivalries that your primarch and his legion have developed over the long years of the Great Crusade?


For the Sentinels, they have always had a long-standing rivalry with the Frederick and the Emperor's Dragoons. Je'She and Frederick do not get along at all. Frederick does not agree with Je'She's views and Je'She disagrees with Frederick's ideas of Astartes superiority.
Even their legions clash, with the more methodical and defensive heavy warfare of the Sentinels being at odds with the fast and relentless attacks of the Dragoons.
It has been known that whenever Sentinels and Dragoons campaign together for fierce competition to arise as to who can claim the most honour

Okay /tg/, I have a scenario for you:

You an enchanted (LG) guardian with powerful, but limited magic.
You have been compelled to guard a castle and expel or kill any intruder until your master returns or the gem containing the magic compelling you is destroyed.
You must protect the gem as well and cannot destroy it yourself.
For whatever reason, your master is never going to return.
A group of peaceful adventurers come to reclaim the abandoned castle.

How do you honor your magically enforced duty and yet do not kill the good natured adventurers?

You don't have a choice but to protect the castle by your own ruleset.

HOWEVER.

The compulsion does not forbid you from speakign with the adventurers and explaining the situation, which can include the fact that if the gem is destroyed you are no longer compelled to protect the castle. That you have to protect the gem is permissible, as well, and there is nothing forbidding you from using nonlethal means to subdue and expel intruders or protectign the gem.

So, you're fine. I will also point out that being compelled does not make you fall, though you will need to atone.

in my group of friends, That Guy, is someone who always plays a mage or wizard so he could always be the most overpowered character, and never really does anything fun with it

any of the suggestions can be ideas for backstories, limits on what spells to use, etc. as long as it helps to spice things up and make a bit more fun

Be more mystical. Focus not just on your powers but on the esoteric wisdom that granted them to you. Describe yourself as saying magic words [or outright make up invocations if they don't sound too cheesy], take rituals if the system has them so you can do the whole magic circles thing.

Infuse a lot of RP into your tools, such as magic hats, robes, wands, staffs, spellbooks, etc.

Figure out how magic works in your setting so you can play around with that a little. The details of the magic user and their magic is the big neglected thing, there's no mysticism or art to their Art, its just "Eh I have superpowers". Avoid this.

it's exceedingly simple to roleplay interestign things - gestures, speakign in alien tongue to cast spells, writing in books, freakign out over finding a library, collecting meaningless but cool spell components, etc. Simple, critical, wizard worthy things that have nothing at all to do with mechanics, and everything to do with roleplay.

If you try, he'll try and make everything mechanically relevant (c.f. 2hu in the PFG/4e threads) to gain MORE POWAH!

If you want to to focus on roleplay, probably FATE or pbta games.

Help me bring magic back into the spectacular and awesome. Rather than the shallow and the dull. Voice or point in the direction of magic "systems" that aren't systems. But are human thought given form. Where the casters don't call upon Mana pools (gas tank), Stamina pools (gas tank), physical components (MacGuffin), Clark's Third Law (pseudo scientific horseshit), abstract bureaucracy (deals with gods or limitations ((Vancian)) or other horrid ideas that poorly convey power and wonder. Give me nature and terror. Where the cost is the use of the power. Where a scene can barely contain even the single utterance of spell, let alone multiple. Where the universe rips apart and only the insane or brave seek out magic as a power. Where practicality and hope go to die!

Imagine a wizard depositing a localized cosmic event by shitting out a portal in your backyard. The mother fucker doesn't even clean up after himself! trouble is this kind of magic only really works at a specific distance from knowledge; it has to have an internally consistent system in order to not just be random bullshit and feel unsatisfying in that way, but it also can't be completely understood or it's underwhelming in the other way. this specific distance necessarily removes it from the realm of tabletop, where magic must be codified in the rules first; it must be understood.
