How would the

Is there a martial art or sword style based around 1 heavily armored hand and a weapon?
You could catch your opponents weapon in your armored hand and kill him with the other. You don't even need to stop the weapon fully, just deflect and disable it. It isn't the same as using a shield either, because the armor on the hand would be lighter and probably take less metal to stiffen than an entire shield, and you can also catch the weapon instead of just deflecting.
I feel like something like this must exist, but I don't know where or what it would be called, also if it was tried and failed because it sucked.
Fingers are fragile. What you want is a jitte.
>1 heavily armored hand
That's called a Shield. Shield and Sword style, invented by everyone.

Thracian Gladiator types are the closest thing.
It's a very poor way to equip someone and even detrimental as an equipment choice so you can see why it was only good for arena fighting

Can CORPSE EMPEROR fags just fuck off already? Like he is a fucking retard. Chaos, particularly Khorne, is just so much better in every way. Lets look at some of the benefits of chaos, shall we?
>Everything you get being a space marine and more.
>Badass aesthetics and intimidating armor.
>Insanely threatening battle chants and things to scream in battle (Sanity is for the weak, we're back, and better than ever, and who can forget BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!)
>Blessings of the dark Gods for making them proud.
>You have the potential to become a fucking demon that lives forever.
>Get said blessings from killing your enemies, which you do for the emperor for free.
>Get to fuck hot Slaanesh demons.
>Possibly wield the power of the warp and command daemons straight from there.
Need I go on? Lets look at what you get from serving God "corpse on a bench" Emperor..
>Endless amounts of fighting for planets that have almost no strategic value.
>Never appreciated by anyone. Treated as Imperial Guardsman with a bit thicker skin.
>Oppressed and killed for inventing better gear for your comrades (Tzeench smiles upon those with an innovative spirit.)
>Everyone is fucking starving.
>Attacked on all sides in the galaxy by everything that breathes, ever.
>No rewards for valor. You have the average lifespan of 4 hours on the battlefield.
>You can live forever in age, but your life is often cut short by a gretchin night raid.
So please fuck of Imperium retards, or join us and embrace the warp.
>>55263143
.... You forgot how awesome the fellas who you'll hang out with are.
>>55263206
You are right! Who can forget Lorgar? The Primarch who the dickweed Emperor thought was too religious and humiliated him in front of his brothers. As the standard for white bois who get bullied, he came back with his new friends and fueled the flames for the HORUS HERESY.
He is also a badass daemon too. How can Imperium fags even compete?

That's why I said 'the first few episodes'. They started off using him as one, and made him bland and ignorant as a result, but then changed their mind.
Reminder that Penny is the easiest RWBY to waifu.
Just be a machine in a previous jump, then the two of you will have a shared frame of reference held by no one else in the setting.

Anon, they're prepping J-man to go the way of his name origin. He'll end up leading, but not doing much on the field other than being a motivator, and then being consumed by fireGrimat the last minute martyrdom, likely his last words will be to the woman he's set on a pedestal, something akin to "I'm coming to ya, P...."
As the topic says: I'm rather new to /tg/, and am not too experienced with Non-D&D rp's, and am kind of tired of a lot of the more serious ones and especially loathe grimdark. What are good tabletop games geared more towards lightheartedness/silliness? (bonus if it can hit the sweet spot of being able to be silly without jumping into lolrandom territory)
Pic maybe related? I've seen/heard of it and it sounds kind of fun, even if weebish. I'm open to other ideas though.
>>55262513
Oh it is
It's also retarded as fuck, but the good type.
Another one to consider which is, as I understand it, the quintessential comedy RPG is "Teenagers from Outer Space".
"Paranoia" is also considered a good comedy game.
If you can get your hands on it, "Stuperpowers" is another good one.
And finally, while not strictly comedy, "Hellcats and Hockeysticks", where you play rebellious British schoolgirls.
There are a few more, like "Monsters and Other Childish Things", which can be played either serious but is at it's best when it's comedy.
These aren't the only ones, but they are all I can think off atm
good hunting, OP!
Paranoia is a comedy game? I had heard of that one but thought it was a horror game. Maybe I'm confusing it with some other game. I thought that's the one where you have to keep rolling to keep your sanity, right?
>>55262644
Ah, no, that's "Call of Cthulhu", which is considered the quintessential horror game.
It is always cool to have fantastic materials. Mithril probably is the most famous example of such a metal.
Yet in TTRPGs I have never seen them done well. D&D have a tons of materials with tons of descriptions and yet their effect is: weapons are masterwork, weight is reduced by half, reduce DEX penalty.
In various fictions it is always just a more resistant form of steel. And while it is cool you can only insert 1 such superresistant material in a setting before it feels lame. Dreadwood may sound cool but what are proprieties that makes it interesting and makes players want to use it?
Examples are Adamantium, Mithril, Gromril and Valyrian steel.
What fantasy metals have YOU used? What are some ideas that make the metal REALLY useful (honestly how the fuck uses weight rules in D&D?)?
>>55262143
I've got an anti-magic material that doubles as a compass, basically magic normally flows freely from "north" to "south" but the material interacts the flow according to the regular physical laws. To make a compass all you have to do is create a weather vain out of the material, the flow of magic will then push the pointer to the north
>>55262270
interacts with*
Theres numerous dnd materials with strange effects. You'd have to read through a thousand splat books though. PF has a fair number, even more and stranger ones with third party.
One cool 3.5 one was a pandemonic silver which screamed as it was swung or thrown due to holes in the metal and its anarchic nature.

This is a good edition, Tok does not get enough love
I just want to let you know Tok that I really like your CYOAs. Except Eronomicon that shit was dumb.
So /cyoag/, what's your favourite cyoa and why?
/tg/, can you help me decrypt the following message one of the other players in our group has left to us?
"WHNTETANHE--ASRTPTU-TITEIO-NHES--
1-7-3-4-6-5-2
The pillars didn't seem to be in order."
No firm context available, it was just left in an ancient vault and probably corresponds to the location of another vault somehow.
Already checked all the basic caesar ciphers, incidentally, so it's at least a little bit more complex than that.
Not really enough to go off of there.
I know this will hugely be influenced by the group, as players want what they want as well.
But after playing PnP systems for near thirty years at this point, I just can no longer not simplify combat to one round of stated actions and dice rolls if I can. Don't get me wrong, nothing can add tension to a game like the uncertainty of dice rolls and a bit of chaos that a turn or two of combat can bring. But that said, I just look at what DnD 3.x turned into over time with the rules creep revolving toward ever more levels of weeaboo fight'n magic (till it became Pathfinder). So now I usually just have players state actions, roll for the uncertainties, and work out how it all happens at one time, because sequential turn based initiative is another concept I have moved away from. And it usually works great, with combat seeming to be heavily one sided between those who were prepared, and those who were not, and those who got the fuck out of there. This has also seemed to go hand in hand with using more rules lite game system mechanics like Risus or Fudge, classless character play, etc.
The biggest advantage has been, I think, the keeping of story momentum and player buy in to emersion. A lot more story gets crafted in these game sessions.
Is this a general progression most other GMs, and play groups, shift to with time? Or is this more so developing a preference between enjoying rugby or flag American football with time?
>>55261063
Traveller GM here and i do not.
The system was written by a actual veteran and strikes, in my eyes, the perfect balance between simulation, improvisation and narrative.
And i'm excluding MgT 2e which is a fucking mess.
>>55262171
>Traveller
Nice
Twilight:2000 (1e) was intensely crunchy with combat, but once you got the hang of it, it was fast and very fucking lethal.
>>55261063
I've always wanted a system that simulated simultaneous fights. I like but never fully enjoyed the turns system of most games, I could never get over the image of everyone standing around and taking shots or wacks at one another.
