I wince as Theresa squeezes my hand EXTREMELY tightly. She's just staring at that calling card that I found, and she does not look in any way pleased about it.

"I can't fucking believe that he actually had CARDS printed out," Theresa says through clenched teeth. "Of all the arrogant, pompous..."

For a second it looks like she's about to crumple the card into a ball, but instead she lets the hand she's holding it in drop limp to her side.

"Hey," I say with forced cheerfulness. "At least now we have a name!"

Is that an official map of Nexus? What's with that wyld zone inside the walls in the southeast section?
>>
I could certainly use a better map for Great Forks than the ones that I know exist. I got to spend a few hours earlier groaning to myself as I gave my players directions based on where I imagined they were in the city only for them to completely fuck them up, because they didn't have a map to reference.

I just let them be right, anyways, but it screwed up my mental image of the scene when the guy who I said would be arriving from north-west said he came from the north-east.
>>
>>43782805
It's not official, but it's based on an official map from 2e. The Wyld Zone is the result of someone using an artifact or sorcery or something to throw the area into the Wyld, iirc.

Basically, it's a mini-Bordermarch area where the capital district used to be.

Ah, what a lovely day it is down here in the depths, the cold chill of the caverns sinks into the bones and slowly kills you like a lover with a knife to your throat, or I imagine so anyways. Never had one, perhaps I'm fortunate in that regard. Well I'm fortunate in many ways, I was born in the largest city of my kind, Granthabur. Or as I heard the surfacers call it, the city of drow, simple name for simple people I suppose. It actually means seaside in our old tongue or some old tongue, not really sure since it's not something I think about often.

And of course, I was born in one of the noble houses of the most influential city of my kin.

You are Irue Valen, blood heir to House Valen, and you have not had a good day. First one of your Testament got taken into a town that you are becoming increasingly convinced exists purely to inconvenience you, then a series of unfortunate decisions coincided with a cave in which left you trapped within a mineshaft and separated from your last Testament and the captain of your peasant knights... If they were even still alive. Unfortunately, your shadow seems to believe that that if any of them survived it would be Ari, simply because that forsaken fragment had been given orders to protect her.

Frankly you'd have traded her for the rest of your Knights.

Since then you had done a number of things, including gotten lost within this mineshaft, stumbled across a spawning pit for giant water spiders - Atlach Nacha, an apparition of Undine - And then walked blithely into an ancient Atelier cradled within a snowglobe being held between the legs of a town sized water spider. There are, you suspect, Guardians within this Atelier just waiting to helpfully defenestrate unwelcome interlopers such as yourself... While you haven't encountered them yet, every moment spent inside this frigid palace of intricately detailed ice is another moment you'll likely be forced to come into contact with them.

Until then, you decided to search the Atelier for anything interesting left behind. Places like these were known for housing Revelations and Relics created or left behind by the Aeon who lived here before. At this point, you're staking your hopes on finding something you can make use of, so this entire disaster of a trip wouldn't be a waste of time and lives.

Stumbling back into the main foyer of the icy palace, you crane your neck up to the frosted ice window doing its best impression of stained-glass, catching the massive looming figure of a woman silhouetted by the soft blue glow coming from outside the Atelier.

You pass the immobile sculpture of the butler from before, and ascend the frozen stairwell as your footsteps echo into the long empty halls. Eventually the stairs lead you past the monumental window of frosted glass, onto the second floor; An expansive hall covered in frost with towering pillars dotting the path, a prideful display of flags hosting the emblazoned image of a rose and sword hanging stiffly from their heights. With this sight alone, you know you've found the Coat of Arms that you had nominally been looking for.

Part of you wondered if maybe this was a little anti-climactic, but considering this place did seem to be a painstaking recreation of some noble's house, you suppose it's not actually unusual for such things to be on prominent display.

Forget nobility.

That unwelcome voice broke in immediately,

This is the Royal's crest.

At the end of the hall, you see a set of double doors that are slightly ajar. A cool wind blows down the hall from it, brushing past you as all the others had, and you catch the shimmer of numerous sculptures loitering in the hallway between you and those doors. Though, you can't help but feel something is unnerving about the hall...

That frosted window you passed should have let you see outside, but given where you're standing now, aren't you above where it would have let you view? This entire hall seemed like it was a solid floor above that window. Was there perhaps some kind of private garden concealed within?

>Ask a question (what?)
>Break something (what?)
>Go back down the stairs and inspect the window
>Progress to the doors.

The Salamanders follow the Codex Astartes, but their doctrines are also strongly influenced by the Promethean Cult of Nocturne, an accepted variant of the Imperial Cult, which places a high regard on self-reliance, self-sacrifice, and loyalty to each other as well as to the Emperor. The hammer and the fire are both important symbols of the Cult, and the Chapter makes widespread use of Flamers, Meltaguns, and Thunder Hammers in their armoury. As one can imagine, this preference for Flamers and Meltas leads to a strong affinity among the Salamanders for close-range shooting when in combat. Because of their universal early training as blacksmiths, all Salamanders are fully capable of maintaining and performing moderate repair work on their weapons and armour, leaving the Chapter's Artificers with the free time necessary to create great works of technology and metallurgy. As a result, the Salamanders Chapter has an unusually high number of master-crafted weapons and Artificer Power Armour. The Chapter also favours the use of Land Raider Redeemers. In an interesting example of juxtaposition, however, the fluctuating gravity of Nocturne makes training with certain units such as Land Speeders and Assault Bikes difficult, therefore the Chapter makes little use of them, favouring instead Devastator Squads and Terminator Squads (the Chapter has 120 Veterans
Fire Drakes Veteran
A Salamanders Veteran of the Fire Drakes (1st Company)
as opposed to the typical 100).

Why is the concept of a Paladin falling so sought after on /tg/? I find it more interesting for a normal or even a morally dubious person trying to better themselves and do what's right than for a knight with god magic to run around "smiting evil".

>>
>>43782088
It's a vocal minority who have strange ideas about morality and never really grew up. It's not "sought after" or even particularly common if you play with adults.

Also, conflicted paladins with dark pasts are more interesting than the ones who grew up perfect.
>>
Edgelords hate fun, basically
>>
>>43782088

Honestly, if I GMed for someone who wanted to be a righteous hero of justice, I would put them in scenarios where they would be likely to fall (or die for their morals), since it wouldn't really feel like it meant anything if it was easy.

I'd leave a way out though since GM killing someone just for playing their character without any appropriate buildup is dumb. If the other PC's put them in that position because the evil artifact seemed like some great loot though, anything goes, that's not so much on me.

You are Urist Twelfthbay, the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress, making you a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry AND a disgustingly adorable girl engaged in dumb anime antics, all at once.

So, yeah, your default state of mind has been 200% mad. Lately, though, you've been more ambivalent about it all. On one hand, the first thing you do every morning is curse the universe for making this your lot in life. On the other hand, while you'll never have a beard, you'll ALWAYS have alcohol and friends (and/or people willing to put up with your bitching and moaning), and that helps you get up in the morning in the FIRST place.

Also, constantly getting caught up in terrifying shit that could easily end your tiny unbearded existence has a way of putting things in perspective.

>[X] [ALL IN] Charge Myrra with your allies. Take her down before she finishes casting whatever it is she's charging up!

For instance, you're currently caught up in a desperate mad rush as you and your allies(?) try to stop Myrra before she can finish charging up whatever overpowered spell she's trying to murder you with. You don't need to be a magician to tell that all this void lightning and strange orange-ish glow is bad fucking news.

Now, see, this really shouldn't be so hard- you've all been fighting on a hollow, cratered asteroid roughly the length of two or three city blocks. Doomgirl howls like a banshee as she easily outdistances you, hurtling forward with no regard to her own safety- what's her top speed again, 50 mph?- and drawing a bead on Myrra with that shotgun of hers-

The Master of Magic's mutter seems to carry across the void, cutting through the noise. "Not this time."

- and you flinch as another one of those goddamn void shark seems to come out of nowhere, intercepting the doomed marine with the unstoppable inertia of a truck running down a small foal. Blindsided and taken off-guard, Doomgirl disappears half into the void shark's mouth, and both of them disappears over the edge of the asteroid.

It takes you a moment to realize that Tiff's stopped running- you keep pumping your legs, but spare a glance back over your shoulder. You're just in time to see her /blur/, shifting into yet another outfit and pulling out some sort of long-barreled rifle. The cackling spellcaster, the stray arcs of destructive magic, and the range doesn't seem to bother the Team Fortress as she squints through her scope, and she starts taking her shots, Myrra flinching back as they come closer and closer.

Looks like Tiff's come to the same conclusion as you: time's running out.

[ ] [UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL] Try to close into melee range. If you're fast enough, you might be able to shut down Myrra's casting! If not, you'll... probably get there just in time to take the brunt of her spell.
[ ] [MEET THE SNIPER] Pull out your crossbow and add to Tiff's long-ranged shots. Between the two of you, maybe you can interrupt the Master of Magic!
[ ] [HELP DOOMGIRL] Trust that Tiff can interrupt Myrra's spell- go chase down that fucking void shark, and help Doomgirl get back into the fight. The last thing you need is for her to get carried off to who knows where.
[ ] [SUMMON SOMETHING] Meatshield, attacker, vanguard- pull out something, ANYTHING, that can interrupt Myrra faster than you and Tiff can!
[ ] [BUILD A WALL] Throw some rocks up, get something between you and Myrra- ANYTHING to blunt whatever she's going to throw at you!

Since the Forces of Chaos are powered each by their respective God, which given their nature essentially boosts one aspect of their emotional state, then why doesn't the Imperium simply counters that emotional state buff with massive ammounts of drugs to nulify that effect?

If raging Khornates are attacking, why don't they carpet bomb the entire world with tranquilizer smoke or burn an entire field of weed in their wake, essentially making them chill again?

If the Emperor Children are inbound, then why not engineer a virus that kills all of their sensorial sensations? Meaning, they can no longer feel pain or pleasure?

If Nurglites are arising, then why not simply spray 90% proof alcohol on them and be on your way?

If Tzeentch got his marines on the way, then why not bombard the entire world with a river of LSD so they can't think straight anymore?

C'mon, this shit makes PERFECT SENSE.

>tfw you realize Cards Against Humanity is the Match Game of tabletop games
>every question either has an extremely obvious answer or no funny answer at all
>on the obvious ones, nobody has the funny answer in their hand, so you get garbage replies
>on the other ones, the host just sits there and stares at the cards they've been given, trying to come up with something funny to say about the situation
>they desperately say some unfunny nonsense
>everybody halfheartedly laughs because nobody wants to be the one to admit the game sucks

Real talk: A lot of the supposed humor of CaH comes from the shock value of the cards you draw, and the cards you play. You pick up "Mecha Hitler" and you kind of think, "hah, that's pretty weird. Nobody's going to see this one coming." And you get a little chuckle from thinking about what a non sequitir it'll be when somebody asks "What is the most delicious?" and you answer Mecha Hitler.

There's two problems with this. One, obviously, is that the game runs out of steam. The more times you play it, the less funny it gets. But the second problem is that the decks seem to be just brimming with references that nobody at the table understands. Or only half the players understand. Or everybody except the person with the black card understands. You could read every card in the game and take out all the ones that are stupid, but then you're ruining that shock value for yourself! And the cards that nobody understands are going to be different depending on who you play with, so there's no good answer here.

If you've ever drawn a card and been like, "What even is this? Do I ask the table what this is? Then I'd be giving away what card I have..." Then you know how stupid this is. Or if you've flipped over four cards and one of them means nothing to you, but one player is trying to explain how it totally makes sense if you've ever seen that movie or whatever, then you know how it fucks the rules up.

By this, I don't mean the weapon you hate the most, I mean the kind of weapon that always gets branded as "superior to all others" by possible fedora wearing neckbeards, be it in /tg/ or in roleplay.
