OK so here's a few from our Not-justice league

>deadman
Isn't invulnerable, or invincible, but is immortal. Wounds heal no matter how severe, can always be conscious without food or water, doesn't require standard sustenance. Has a veiny face And greyed out eyes, has been alive since before the formation of america

>mod
Instantly understands any machine when he interacts with it, as well as being able to detect imperfections/flaws and things wrong with it, as well as knowing what effects said flaws have.

>omnes
Can astral project with a high level of accuracy, can read documents instantly, as well as having eidetic and photo-accurate memory. Is only 16 and lacks wisdom to act on his knowledge.

I'm a fan of "normal" superheroes, so powerhouses, battlesuits and speedsters will always have first place in my heart.
But I also like some other things... for example

>null G
Controls gravity: can fly, crush enemies with very high gravity or disable them with null gravity at leisure. Has a shield protecting the body against all physical attacks... or a distorted gravity field that makes ranged attacks miss a lot.

>kaugammy
Has a gum-like body, which can be sticky and can stretch like chewing gum. Usual method of travel would probably be flinging through buildings, like a sling. Is mostly invulnerable to crush and slash attacks, can regenerate very fast but is fairly vulnerable against cold and heat offensives. But is a nightmare in close combat grappling: very difficult to escape because of the stickyness and imaginative ways of grappling.

You are Brianna la Croix, journeyman necromancer, and you are in a war council with a lungless cripple and a paraplegikeet.

"I need you to answer me just one question," you ask Amy seriously. "The minotaurs in the Dungeon, what's their culture like?"

Amy hums. "You ever seen a moose lose its shit and just beat something to death for absolutely no reason?"

"Uh-huh," you agree, slowly.

"Angry minotaurs are like that. So they spend a lot of time practicing gestures of respect and solidarity, because generally in a fight between one minotaur and another, both lose. They won't expect you to know their culture, but they understand respect. And they'll test that respect, because they hate false flattery the way humans hate betrayal. A power play is literally less insulting than a hollow compliment or a meaningless insult."

"...I think I like these people," Nathan admits.

Amy shrugs. "They're okay. Invaluable as guides, great as friends, terrible as enemies. Just tread lightly."

"Then we'll go to the Maze," you decide. "If we play our cards right we might get more than just passage. If we can persuade them to open up negotiations with Lakehallow, both groups would prosper. Muscle on one side, food on another."

"Access to Glen would mean better weapons, armor, and supplies for the tribe," Nathan warns. "Not telling you your business, but keep that in mind. Don't create something you can't destroy."

You give Nathan an offended look. "You are talking to a fucking necromancer. What do you think our very first lesson is, knitting?"

"Well, you made the chicken."

"I will have satisfaction, sir!" Fetch squawks indignantly, but you pet his head and he settles down instantly, nestling against you. "My dark and glorious queen, bringer of life and death, could never act in any way irresponsible."

Nathan stares at the bird while Amy tries, so hard, not to laugh.

"Well?" you tell Nathan with a teasing smile. "Apologize."

To his credit, Nathan treats Fetch with dignity; "Noble zombie chicken, please forgive my presumption."

"You are a man of honor," Fetch says regally. "You are wholly forgiven."

This is it. This is your life now.

The four - well, okay, three, since Fetch can't have any - of you share a pot of coffee before you gather up your things and set out. Amy's applied salve to the cut on her cheek and patched the damaged leather portions of her armor, a for-now solution that will need to be redone properly later. Fetch and the chickens take point, eyes wary for danger and spectral voices clucking gently into the darkness.

You and Amy see in the dark with the power of your necromancy. Nathan, of course, needs no such help. The young man takes the rearguard, the second-most dangerous position in the marching order, and keeps his loaded crossbow at the ready. You see something massive slip through the river, thrashing a white, sinous tail before it dives deeper into the water.

It's gonna be a bit of a walk.

Wait. He's just joking, right? There's no way that someone as nice as Irene could possibly be...

"My my my," Faceless chuckles. "Can it be that I've just stolen the bonds of friendship that exist between you ladies with but a single sentence?"

While Faceless continues to laugh, the three of us stand frozen, unable to do anything aside from stare at Irene's horrified face.

"While I prefer my trophies to be more along the lines of the physical, I suppose I shall have to make do with that... for now, anyways," Faceless says, tipping his hat to me and Charlotte. "À la prochaine, mes belles!"
"H- hey!" Irene shouts. "You're not-"

But before Irene's able to grab hold of his cape, Faceless vanishes into the flat surface of the gate. Muttering what I assume are swear words in another language, Irene leaps over the fence to try and chase after him... and then hops right back over again.

"He's gone," she growls.

Well, if we're assuming the breath of the red dragons has given Bolvar'Zhul fire magic, we can expect icecrown to be the most affected by the climate change. I would hesitate to make it volcanic, but it could definitely be changing from an arctic desert to an arid one. The few remaining undead that are still shackled to this gestalt creature may even have been called back to cultivate it into a beautiful plain more befitting the design of the titans, putting the bony hands of the undead to work creating new life.

Of course, renegade scourge forces who are not quite so enthused about this constructive use of the powers of death ma have fractured away from his command and be scattered throughout, trying to thwart the new lich king's efforts to make Icecrown into a paradise. The overarching plot of the area would be about tracking down a lich/warlock who was summoning demons in an attempt to do to Bolvar'Zhul what Arthas did to himself, namely remove his heart and thus his compassion, etc. This could culminate in their success or failure, success making revisiting Icecrown (Firecrown? Meh.) a viable option for dungeons or raids.

Sholazar would probably become more marshy from flooding, maybe even becoming an area awash with lakes. There being no obvious drainage out of there, the vast amount of melting snow and ice would collect in the basin, ruining one of the last holdouts of Titanic design on Azeroth. This would be almost the exact mirror of what is happening in Icecrown.

In order to save the Basin and its resources, both the alliance and the horde could be using their engineers to create some kind of drainage system.

The alliance (gnomes) would have a questline where they repurpose old Titanic tunnels or structures or something as a sort of runoff flood defence system, while the horde (goblins) could be planning to blow a massive hole in the muntains around the basin to let it all flow into the sea. Both would face Titanic pushback.

So one of my players just managed to bring their character back from the dead as a flaming skeleton in a suit of vampiric magic armour full of wood alcohol that he has hacked so that it can be fuled by booze rather than blood.

He is now a booze lich/vampire who reeks of burning meths and cooked bacon.

Given that this was our last session of the year I now have about three weeks to work out what the fuck I'm going to do with this.

Hey /tg/, what exactly happens when an empire collapses? What happens to its people? What happens to its army, and its generals, and its government?

I'm planning a D&D 5e game soon and it takes place 25 years after the collapse of a tyrannical empire in a middle eastern themed part of the world and the nations it conquered have been rebuilding and reclaiming their heritage and culture, but I'm not exactly sure how things go from there.

>A good, likable DMNPC

Is it even possible?
31 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
I once had a DMPC that the players were okay with, who disguised himself as another character and adventured with the party for a while, and he became their favorite NPC.

Then, when I revealed that it was the DMPC the entire time, he immediately became their least favorite.
>>
It's actually pretty fucking easy, which is why I find it somewhat amusing the concept is so generally despised.

Here's the key to making a good DMPC/Prominent NPC- They never overshadow the PCs.

It's that simple.

Even if they would otherwise be capable in a fight, I go out of my way to keep them to one side- Have them in a side room fighting a smaller, weaker set of enemies than an individual PC could conceivably taken on, but ideally not a fighter at all.

I ran an AdEva game where one of the PCs classmates became a very prominent NPC. She was friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and kind... And could never pilot an Eva. As much as she wished she could, she would never be able to fight alongside the PCs. So she did everything in her power to help them in their day to day lives, and was a key part of the game without making anyone feel irrelevant or undermined.
>>
What's the difference between a DMNPC and an NPC that the players like to keep around?

How do you feel about 5e's Advantage/Disadvantage system?

>Sometimes a special ability or spell tells you that you have advantage or disadvantage on an ability check, a saving throw, or an attack roll. When that happens, you roll a second d20 when you make the roll. Use the higher of the two rolls if you have advantage, and use the lower roll if you have disadvantage.

>If multiple situations affect a roll and each one grants advantage or imposes disadvantage on it, you don’t roll more than one additional d20.

>If circumstances cause a roll to have both advantage and disadvantage, you are considered to have neither of them, and you roll one d20. This is true even if multiple circumstances impose disadvantage and only one grants advantage or vice versa. In such a situation, you have neither advantage nor disadvantage.

>When you have advantage or disadvantage and something in the game, such as the halfling’s Lucky trait, lets you reroll the d20, you can reroll only one of the dice. You choose which one. For example, if a halfling has advantage on an ability check and rolls a 1 and a 13, the halfling could use the Lucky trait to reroll the 1.

>You usually gain advantage or disadvantage through the use of special abilities, actions, or spells. Inspiration can also give a character advantage on checks related to the character’s personality, ideals, or bonds. The DM can also decide that circumstances influence a roll in one direction or the other and grant advantage or impose disadvantage as a result.

I originally didn't like it, since I thought adding +2/-2 for favorable/unfavorable circumstances was a more natural and intuitive method, but after playing with it, it's easy to use, and players seem to love it.

Even though it's a little embarrassing to admit, I sometimes wind up granting players advantage AFTER they make a roll and fail it, giving them a chance to come up with a reason why they should have had advantage and essentially giving them a reroll.

You should be embarrassed.

Anyway, as a guy who hates number crunching and the overabundance of stacking modifiers from previous editions, Adv/Disad has been a welcome addition.

Been running 5e campaign for over a year now, which is the longest I've run any D&D system ever. I think the simplicity plays a huge part.

>Anyway, as a guy who hates number crunching and the overabundance of stacking modifiers

Once you break away, you don't look back.

A numerical bonus didn't feel important until it hit at least +4, and at high levels not until it hit +6 or even +8.
An extra roll always feels important.

So, I'm sure I'm not the only one, but what weird characters have you come up with or run in D&D

One I talked over with my DM, but never got a chance to use was a character cursed with fertility.
One of his ancestors was sterile and longed for children, so they went to a witch, who used magic to make them fertile, but the twist was that him and all his kin would have to have a child every year after turning 16, or they would die.
The character in question would live in this massive, MASSIVE house thats filled with his family. Like just hundreds of nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. Just a huge fucking family.
His goal would be to find a way to lift the curse.

Thats the first one that sticks out, what about you, /tg/?

Picture slightly related? Theres a child in it, I guess. I had it saved and have never used it for anything.
