Archived threads in /tg/ - Traditional Games - 4480. page

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Would /tg/ think this is a good idea?

I think it's pretty cool, and there is no reason why, with their technology, they couldn't have developed AT LEAST matchlocks. They're pretty basic. I don't mean exactly romans, but some fantasy dudes with the same tech as them and all of the ancient world.

The only problem I see is that I think matchlock weapons were actually useful at their time, because of the armor advancements. The only way to kill a knight at the time would be to make him fall to the ground and then putting a sharp point through his visor, using a warhammer or other polearms, so having a boomstick which could kill them with none of that work was pretty good. Even if it lacked range, fire rate and was more expensive than a crossbow.

So, what are your thoughts?

So, OP, a couple facts you can check yourself with a bit of research:
>Full plates made with exact specifications of the medieval plates that co-existed with muskets have been known to even withstand rounds from modern firearms, such as 9mm and .38. This doesn't happen reliably but they resit penetration more often then one would think.
>Plate armor coexist with firearms for over 500 years. In the late napoleonic age, cuirassiers, as the name suggest, would still have breastplates that could, often, stop a bullet from advanced rifled weapons or muskets. Medieval plate could reliably, although not all the time, stop a musket bullet (See origin of the term bulletproof yadda yadda)

>Heavy crossbows can pierce things modern firearms sometimes cant and old firearms often couldn't, like a car door. They are, though, extremely slow to reload as they require a cranking mechanism that has to be attached and detached between reload and firing.

>Ancient age armies had many different types of armors, and not rarely they would field people with no armor, just clothes or a simply cotton shirt. But shields were always a strong presence in ancient warfare. A thick oaken shield can stop a couple musket bullets, perhaps even more, without shattering.

But tower shield/scutum and muskets sound like good match

We all know that in blood bowl universe, blood bowl has compeletely replaced wars. That means lots of resources and manpower that were previously dedicated to war is now free. Then i realized that i was missing a much bigger point. Old World in Blood Bowl universe has TELEVISION. True, cabalvision maybe a bit different from the normal television, what with whole thing being more magic oriented and there being a chance for accidental Daemon summoning in case of a malfunction but otherwise it fulfills all the function a TV does. So i asked myself, what about other TV shows? So far in the lore Cabalvision is solely dedicated to Blood Bowl but really, how long it would take for some smuchk to invent reality TV or cartoons or cooking shows?

>7:00 Dorak the Pillager

>10:00 Altdorf News

>14:00-20:00 Blood Bowl Marathon
>21:00 Naggaroth's Next Star
>A talent show that features amateur singers, dancers and actors competing with each other for a chance to sign up with well-known producers. Has a death toll rivaling blood bowl matches due to resulting casualities caused by regular assassination attempts contestants make.
>22:00 That's Heresy!
>A reality tv series that follows the adventures of two witch hunters travelling from town to town, hunting heretics and mutants.
>23:00 Orkonomics with Prof.DeffChopa

What do you think elegan/tg/entlemen? What kind of TV shows would Old World TV have?

Possible? Sure. Doesn't seem likely though. In 40k, there is only war. In Blood Bowl, there is only Blood Bowl. That would imply to me that most people spend extensive periods of time training to join teams.

There may be some shows for those whom, for whatever reason, are incapable of playing but they'd probably be Blood Bowl related...

They could at best release specialist games and support sporadically "collector" "historical" models

They don't want the old world, they want something that can be milked with continuous additions and stories

Rules for battles set in the old world, or massive fantasy battles in general, could get done only when they realize they incentive sales as long as they are willing to spend resources into testing and a creative team, which doesn't seem to be present bar for the forge world team who is still run by fanatics of their own creations

Crafting a potion of Instill Lechery, an enchantment of Afflict Hedonism, or even dare I say the forbidden Fuck Me Randy hex.

Sup, /tg/. I made an alien creation for a tabletop game (best suited for Pathfinder and/or D&D 3.5). However, the DM seems to think my creation has extra powers and skills based on the number of eyes it has. This is not the case, as when I made this species of aliens, I simply gave them three eyes, no nose (but it has nose slits), three toes, and three fingers. Pretty much an aberration with no darkvision and nothing else (it might as well be a mutated human).
The DM said it feels like they'd have a bonus to Perception (or Spot in D&D), but I told him they're identical to humans without the extra feat and skill point; the eyes (as well as the three toes and three fingers and slit nose) are just ascetic.

Am I missing something? Do creatures with more than two eyes get a bonus? Or am I in the right?

Pic related (original content by the way, I made it earlier this year)

By default, a third eye wouldn't give much of a bonus. Two eyes give you depth perception by letting you see things from more than one point of reference; a third wouldn't do much that the first two couldn't.

That said, if the only differences are aesthetic, then there's not much point in making an alien race, is there? Besides, why would it evolve three eyes in the first place if they didn't give it any advantage?
>>
>>44104955
>why would it evolve three eyes in the first place if they didn't give it any advantage?

For the same reason plenty of things happen evolutionary.

All vertebrates on Earth have two eyes, four limbs, and at most seven natural digits on each limb.

This is because our earliest common ancestor was built this way, and not enough change has yet resulted to have alternatives crop up.

Say I wanted to create a minigame/subsystem entirely for jousting, for a game which would revolve around knights (I looked up Pendragon, surprisingly they haven't got something quite like this). Any of you history buffs got advice for what kinds of details would be needing attention in order to truly capture the feeling of jousting in dice rolls?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Warhammer Fantasy used to have a minigame based on jousting called 'Joust!'. Maybe check that out for help.
>>
>>44104692
Was it a miniature game? I'm not looking for miniature type rules, I need something that would mechanically reflect the nuances or "feeling" of the sport through the gameplay. Like how Deadlands uses poker-like mechanics in some places because poker is Wild West relevant and symbolizes the escalating tension of Western films, etc.
>>
>>44104665
Factors and actions that affect the outcome of a joust and might be turned into rules or skills:

Quality of the horse. How fast does it reach a full gallop, how steady is it's gait, how calm is it?

Quality of the Knight: Horsemanship and experience is a huge part of this, how good is he at making the horse start moving or change it's speed before the moment of impact (maybe make someone misjudge their aim, you're not going completely straight at each other after all, you are both "off center". How steady is he in the saddle (weight might also be a factor here). How good is his aim, how strong is he, does he know any tricks, be they illegal or just clever (like only lowering his lance at the last moment in order to knock the opposing knights lance aside before impact)
Quality of the armour, are there any weak spots, previous damage/repairs? Are they both wearing superheavy tournament-only type armour or something more functional? (appropriate for earlier time periods or lance vs lance combat in battlefield or knights challenging each other on the road type scenarios)

What lances are being used, "show" blunt lances that splinter much easier or sturdyier ones? Or is it to the death, with sharp points?

Basically the knights are trying to hit each other with lances that impact with the combined speed and mass of two horses and armoured men and stay in the saddle. It all boils down to various ways to make your own lance strike true and transfer as much of that energy as possible to the other knights or at least get a clean hit and broken lance (a common way of scoring jousts that don't end with anyone knocked out of the saddle, knocking of crests or helmets/visors/pauldrons might also earn you a win in case both stay on their horses)

I want to make a primarily scions army. What would be some good allies to supplement my army?
>>
>>44104649
Depends on the style youd like to go for.

Inquisitors offer psyker support and are almost entirely Elites, guards offer prime heavy support but their elites ARE scions, marines have good units in most slots so can fill in gaps, same with SoB who have good heavy and elites but fall behind on troops and long range AT.

Sup fat guys and cat girls. I need some advice and ideas from all of you GMs out there.

So i'm going to GM a 5e game for some friends and I loads of experience and even a setting in which I generally run my games. The thing is, that setting never quite got to be the way I wanted it to.

I like high fantasy, but the way spells are treated in D&D makes magic pretty trivial and boring to me. A different spell from whatever school of magic for literally any situation is almost always at hand, stuff like locked doors, big cliffs and even death to an extent start to lose its meaning. So I wanted to try and make this game with a bit less fantasy heavy in some ways. Think Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings (not my inspirations for the game, just examples), the magic is there, just not in literally any shape the wizard requires at a specific time. I'm trying to create a setting in which magic is not that common. All the classes will be homebrew, have a connection to the setting and be less generic than those in the book. The thing is, spellcasting as it is is shit for a game like that. I want it to be more fluid, not just "Well, got to level 2 now I can shoot frostbolts AND fireballs".

Ideally spells are a big deal and have more sense to them thematically not just learn anything at any given time. Does anyone have any helpful advice or good reads about that sort of stuff? In return some amano artwork.

Thanks in advance.
