Noob to PF here, but not to D&D
I have a friend who is running a game and will only let us use the Core Rulebook, Advanced Players Guide and Advanced Race Guide
How would I make an effective Alchemist build with just the basic stuff like that?

>Across the Imperium and beyond, many hear the Call of Chaos. The Dark Gods touch many minds, and few can resist their clarion call. Even amongst the mighty Space Marines, there are many who have fallen into the lure of the Ruinous Powers. In the Eye of Terror and the Maelstrom, they battle amongst themselves for power, glory and followers, before launching raids on the Imperium they once strove to protect.

>This eBook contains the complete Warhammer 40,000 Path to Glory expansion, giving you rules for generating Chaos Space Marine warbands and battling other such warbands for the favour of the Dark Gods. It includes rules for choosing your warband, scenarios to use on the tabletop, rules for fighting over worlds dedicated to each of the Chaos Gods, and painting guides.

Have any of you bought it yet? How is it?

I can tell you the one on Kat.ph does NOT open on my iPad. I guess I'll have to wait to see if this is worth not getting anything decent this Advent.

Last two Advents were very good to Chaos. I guess GW went quantity over quality. BUt maybe there is something good in this supplement.

It's disappointing to say the least.

Why so?

Something that's always been super frustrating to me as a 40k player is that I meet more people who are in it for the fluff or for the hobby aspect like painting and detail work etc. That's fine, I don't have a problem with how others enjoy the game. I care more about playing the game for the sake of the game, so naturally when I'm making a list I want it to be powerful and synergistic and don't put much thought into whether it's fluffy or not. Sometimes I play with unpainted models. Shrug.

A lot of people don't take well to that and call me that guy obviously. That's fine, I have friends who like to play at peak performance like I do. Problem is, I haven't played for two years and I find that competitive resources are super scarce, so adjusting to the meta and what's "good" has been bumpier for me than I would like, especially since I'm starting a new army (Necrons.)

I understand if you're disapproving of the way I play, it's whatever, I understand for a lot of people the hobby is more important than the game, but can I please get a heads up from someone like me as to where to look for strategy/tactics, net lists, etc?

Pic related, often inspires the ire of people who hate "tryhards"

>>
>>44382820

Like >>44382858 said, I'm not sure if you're being serious or not. But in the off-chance that this is a serious question, the answer is that - frankly - 40k is a shit game. Now don't get me wrong, there are reasons to play it, but most of those reasons are the ones that you specified: the models are among the best, and the fluff is highly-developed and familiar to most of us.

The game itself is a vehicle to sell models at increasingly greater prices. That's it. Compared to most of its competitors, 40k plays like absolute garbage. What's more, GW routinely mauls the game's balance through relentless power creep and new editions. This isn't done to rebalance or reinvigorate the game, but - again - to sell new models. There's really no reward for investing lots of time and thought into upping your game, because the game is a low-stakes ass world. That doesn't mean people don't make attempts to play super competitively, but they come across as idiots because what they're doing is the equivalent of a jack knife into an 18 inch deep kiddie pool.

For what it's worth Infinity is less anime in general and more just outright a whole sale rip off of Ghost In The Shell. Which is actually pretty cynical no-nonsense stuff by most standards

It doesn't follow usual anime troops of kung fu giving you superpowers and letting you dodge bullets at all.

Hey /tg/, I'm gonna be playing as a Techpriest in a DH campaign. I have the idea that he will be party support/healer, as none of the other party members can get medical until much later than me, and I need tips for actually roleplaying the guy. Just free form it. It's supposed to be erotic and fun right? So just sit down with the other people and tell the story you wanna tell.
What is the purpose of making sexual mechanics? If you can't come up with a satisfactory answer to that, you don't need to do it. Just run whatever game you want and stick the naughty bits wherever you want.
Strictly speaking, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but games like FATAL would probably the best conceptually because the designers envisioned sex as a part of the game and presumably could answer that important question from before. Would I play that game? No. Do I think it's a reasonable answer to OP's question? Yes.

Hey /tg/, I don't usually lurk on this board, but I may be changing that soon. I've GMed games for years now and I was curious as to your own personal playing styles and any tips you may have acquired over the years. I'll start...

>Always focus the story around the PCs and let their choices drive it. No one plays to hear about your novel and be observers.

Pic unrelated but it felt somewhat correlated.
64 posts and 11 images submitted.
>>
>>44380022
I have never once been in a game that centered around the PCs in a dramatic sense and has been any good; and I've lost track of how many groups I've been in in close to 15 years.

Maybe, just maybe, if you've assembled a dream team of mature spotlight sharers, this can work, but the overwhelming majority of the time, it either peters out into nothing happening, or descends into the party killing itself.

DO make the parties choices matter, and have very visible effects on the world, but you'll get way farther casting them into the reactive role, not the proactive one.

Well, I consider myself lucky then. I've had a very good time with group.

The premise is just a bit unimaginative is all. Nothing to overreact to. Maybe you could speak with the GM and the other players about a plotline deconstructing the "designated good guy"-ness of America IN SPACE, or something.

Again, the setting seems pretty generic to me, but is there anything you know about the plot of the game?

/tg/, here's a quite hard character writing challenge just for you

Create a serious, compelling and overall "good" character that wields katana, wears a fedora and and is an atheist. He also has to be male and Caucasian. Any setting is allowed

He has to be good to the point where you wouldn't be ashamed introducing him into your own game.

I'm not even trying to be jokey, I think every concept can be done well as long as you put your head to it

>>
>>44378068

Film Noir-style detective who uses a katana instead of a revolver, perpetually smokes, drinks and swears and had lost his faith in God because his family got murderer.

Katana can be a setting thing or a result of some character quirk. Maybe insert some Jetstream Sam in there.
>>
>>44378135
Actually, give Jetstream Sam a disguise that's him in a trenchcoat and fedora. If you'd ask him on belief, he'd say he never bothered.
You could go really anachronistic and set it in the 20s as well. And take nothing too seriously.

There. Fixed.

Planescape General and Q&A

Discuss Planescape and the Great Wheel here, whether the original AD&D 2e version, the 3.X version, the 4e version (yes, it exists in 4e, down to the baernaloths, the yugoloths, the Heart of Darkness, Maeldur et Kavurik, Tenebrous, Pelion, and the Last Word all being canon as of Dragon #417), the 5e version, or your own original blend.

I am exceedingly well-lanned on Planescape canon under a holistic blend of 2e, 3.X, and sometimes even 4e lore. If you have any questions at all about the setting's lore, feel free to ask, and I will give you direct quotes and citations from as many primary sources as I can, unlike afroakuma. I will note when something is open to GM interpretation, and explicitly note whenever I give merely my own personal interpretation.

What are the most important books for playing Planescape in 2e?
>>
>>44380278

Ironically, the core Planescape Campaign Setting boxed set is not particularly vital to playing or running Planescape. If anything, it is rather unpolished and unrefined.

The single most important book for Planescape 2e is the "Planewalker's Handbook." It is the most up-to-date summary of the entire setting, useful for both players and GMs, and everyone who intends on using the setting should read through it as much as possible.

Following up from that, you will want "In the Cage: A Guide to Sigil," "Factol's Manifesto," and "Uncaged: Faces of Sigil" for running the City of Doors.
"Planes of Law," "Planes of Chaos," "Planes of Conflict," and "A Player's Primer to the Outlands" will acquaint you with the Outer Planes.
"Inner Planes," "Guide to the Astral Plane," and "Guide to the Ethereal Plane" should cover the remaining planes.

Those are the primary books you will want. If you wish to emphasize fiends and the Blood War, you should also download "Faces of Evil: The Fiends" and "Hellbound: The Blood War." Likewise, if gods and other divinities are supposed to be a focus, "On Hallowed Ground" should serve you well.

How overpowered is Callidus polymorphine? Can it turn them into an alien or non-humanoid?

Are the c'tan phase blades actually derived from c'tan weapons or are they reverse engineered from necron tech? And if so, why wasn't it condemned as xenotech?

Can you play a Callidus in any of the FFG 40K RPGs?

In Ian Watson's book, (not sure how cannon that is, seeing it was trying to advance 40k's plot) one of the calliduses recieved a cutting-edge surgery, so she could turn into a genestealer. She became unable to turn into anything else, which hit her hard. However before that she could took the form of an Eldar, so I am guessing any humanoid goes, as long as it doesn't diverge in mass (read: no marines)
