Orcs are wolflike
Elves, deerlike
Dwarves, rams?
Trolls, bears?
Human?
Thoughts? Can you think of more animal-like races?
Humans and monkeys are pretty popular pairings.
Or rats.
>>44369922
monkeys, duh.
Also, wargs/worgs aside, I always pegged Orcs as boar-like. Humans usually get the wolf themes just because they're most peoples' favorite animal.
Orcs are definitely boarlike. They have tusks and other pig features.
Let's talk about alien races in your sci-fi settings.
What kinds do you prefer? Men in rubber mask Star Wars aliens that take a little suspension of disbelief, or more realistic creatures from a Wayne Barlow wet dream?
Do you prefer having fucking truckloads of random cantina aliens coloring the galaxy, ensuring every NPC in the game is something newer and stranger than the last, or just a handful of four or five extremely fleshed out races to choose from?
Share 'em if you got em.

I gotta admit, this is sort of a thinly veiled inspiration thread. I've been running a home-brew space opera game for a few friends lately, and up until now i've more or less hand waved the issue all together. Since it was supposed to be a throwaway game that sort of took up a life of it's own, i just sort of thought up the aliens they encountered as they encountered them, with very minimal world building.
Now that the game's starting to come together as something bigger, I need to actually figure out what the general feel of the galaxy would be. I was hoping seeing what /tg/ has come up with in your own settings might help me figure what direction to go in.
>>44369704
>realistic
don't do that.
Uh, I like having both "rubber-forehead aliens" and weirder "starfish aliens" in my settings. As much as I like to make eldritch creatures, I can't resist including some form of technicolor space babes. As for number, I like having variety, but I don't force it for its own sake. I need every alien to have at least a substantial lore and background of their own, and as much as I'd love to have a Space Dandy level of alien variety, I'm way too lazy to make so many hundreds of species for a game.
>>44369802
Cool, cool. I suck at hard scifi, so my moods for space opera games is almost always on the cartoonish, unrealistic side of things. I recommend it purely because it's easy.
I own a copy of wayne's book, and I while I love his stuff, I have a certain appreciation for green alien girls. In a proper space opera may as well run the whole gambit though.
You were in your mid 20s and working as a junior associate in a modest company. It might not be the most glamorour job that someone could have but it was the best you could do straight out of college. "Izumi, can you get this data to me by the end of today?"
"Yes!" Unfortunately, ever since you got the job you've been busy. Your life has revolved around pleasing your bosses to hopefully move up the company faster.
"I... I have to endure this for her." The only one that pops up into your mind was your beloved girlfriend. You've been with her for almost three years now and she was the only reason you can still smile at work. "I have to do this for Mai."
You knew that if it wasn't for your girlfriend, you would've quit this job a long time ago. However since you had big plans this year you had to show yourself worthy of her. "I'm going to ask her to marry me this year!" You made up your mind and your heart was motivated.
"Izumi, get this to me as well." The requests start pouring in especially after lunch.
By three in the afternoon, all you wanted to do was finally go home and relax. "Ah... Mai... I want to see you already..." You sigh out. However, the picture of Mai on your desk would have to do for now. Just then, you receive a text from her.
"Hey Izumi! How are you doing today? Are we still on for dinner after work? It is our anniversary tonight"
"Ah! That's right it was our anniversary today..." You thought to yourself.
[ ] "Yeah we are still on!" Try and sneak out of the office without anybody seeing you.
[ ] There's no way your boss will let you go early tonight. "Ah I can't." She usually drags you out to drink at the nearby bar.

So, /tg/: I quit Standard years ago, not long after Time Spiral rotated out. I played Extended, and now play Legacy when I can, Modern when I can't.
Convince me to start playing Standard again.
Jab. Parry. Dodge. Sweep.
The lesser apprentice contorts to catch the sweep of your lightsaber, receiving only the empty air for his efforts. It was a ruse.
Feint.
His body resists at first, but without another second’s hesitation is heard crashing into the black stone walls of the wide chamber, nearly 20 meters away.
I feel the familiar vibrancy, the surge of power that every consecutive victory brings…the clapping from the throne behind me, in the midst of the polished room, only bring it to another high, another tectonic rumble which I can feel emanating from myself and echoing about the space around me. Jar Jar sighs deeply.
“Another brutal finish, my powerful apprentice,” Darth Plagueis states flatly, as though a teacher grading a student’s paper. “No pity, no remorse, and no openings…you are certainly powerful, but…” he stops mid-sentence to consider something to himself. A flash from the rubble doesn’t let me pay attention to his next thought.
“JAR JAR, you insignificant worm!” the young, battered Sidious cries out across the floor, “this is not your victory yet, fool!”
“Meesa disagree, little Palpy.”
>Force Fight with Sidious, put the weak human in its place. 1v1 no sabers bruh.
>Walk away, because you’re goddamn Jar Jar Binks
>Motion to Plagueis with a disparaging look
>Try to usurp political power in this situation by convincing the battered Sidious- using a mind trick- to help you attack the unsuspecting Plagueis.
>write in
Welcome to everything you ever wanted and everything you hated packaged together in a single one-shot. This is Darth Darth Rising Quest.

STop stop stop wait shit
There is a prestige class you can get into like level 2 if you choose the right starting shit.
Fuck, what was it, you are like an assasin for vampires and steal life and shit, need 3d6 sneak attack to get in, but you can get that hella easy with the starting packages.
Fuk it's hard to remember when your hammered.
/tg/, why didn't GW do the obvious thing with the Necrons and just add more C'tan? The fact that there was only a grand total of four (and only two of those being playable) was fucking retarded. All they had to do was add some more. Just make all the New ICs ctan . why did we have to get the retarded as fuck newcrons?
>>44368158
>yfw retards can't even tell newcrons are retarded
I seriously read in a thread a few days ago someone said "why are newcrons retarded" then went "so you can't answer the question?" when called a retard for not being able to see why.
>>44368158
I thought one of the issues with oldcron fluff was that the C'Tan had become too big of a deal in the setting, being materium star-eating gods of infinite power that were anathema to the Warp. I feel like adding more would've exacerbated that presence they had and pulled more focus from other things.
>>44368158
Because newcrons is one of the few good changes.
Merry Christmas Fa/tg/uys and Ca/tg/irls. What is on your wish list that's related to /tg/?

Pic related, it's a map.
A child with a wooden sword runs around bopping random objects with it and occasionally other children. Then he runs up to your character and shouts "This place is dangerous! Come with me!"
What do you do?

Helps him find a place of safety of course
Obvious ambush.

So my players recently went up against the BBEG, and ended up getting their asses handed to them. They were mad. I felt good about it.
Do any of you guys have fun examples of the BBEG winning?
This time I blame the PCs for not actually trying to find out the BBEG's abilities, and simply assuming that if they could make it to him that they would win.
>"Alright guys, the boss dude steps out with his entourage of shield guys and a pair of cross-"
>We attack the leader
>Are you sure? He's not-
>We ATTACK
And that's how they wasted their best skills right at the start, at least in my case.
>>44365201
Our playgroup isn't a big fan of DM vs player conflict, so the BBEG doesn't tend to win in the end.
I guess different people enjoy different things, though.
>Players arrive at the end of the chapter of the campaign.
>They are fighting the female leader of an evil Cult.
>They do this after a whole dungeon of tough enemies.
>They blast her with their best abilities to burn her down quickly.
>She dies.
>They're cheering and searching the room.
>All the sudden the statue of her god starts rusting and molding over, and her body is lifted into the air and pulled, twisted, broken, and shaped into this vaguely-humanoid looking female form with a dress and crown made from the Cult Leader's skin and sinew.
>This new enemy proceeds to beat the absolute shit out of the party.
And that was the day they learned that it's probably not a good idea to ever be cocky about how cool you were blowing your big moves in combat until you're far away and safe in your home after the battle.
Your last party has accidentally gained the support of the KKK, what happens?
>leader is called a Grand Wizard
Seems like a good ally.

Well Night Lords ARE pretty white...
Wonder how the chocoelf in the squad got past them. Then again, her CHA is off the scale.
How do you feel about using accents for in character talking? Have you ever done it? Is it annoying, or make it hard to take a character seriously?
I have a decker in Shadowrun that sounds like bad impression of Jackie Chan, and it's fun, but I'm seriously considering dropping the accent just because I have trouble taking my own character seriously.
It's one step removed from LARPing, which means it's two steps too far.
I only use one accent, and that's Nazi.
