How would you guys feel about your character class determining your equipment? Not necessarily your miscellaneous stuff like rope, rations, tents, and other gear. Just your weapons, armor, and maybe other things that are essential for that class.

It makes sense, the entire point of a class system is that it creates archetypes, and the reason systems like D&D have so many issues is because there is not enough niche protection for those archetypes.

The complaint in >>44375143 is silly, since that's assuming your class name makes a huge difference in your character, which it shouldn't unless game terms are real world terms, in which case that isn't really a concern unless you're specifically trying to be different.

The complaint in >>44375258 is somewhat legitimate, in that you either need to have a system which doesn't pretend to give a lot of player choices, or a system in which there are so many classes, and so many minor options that having your style decided for you isn't an issue.

Graffiti Magic. It's like glyphs and shit. Writing the true names of things you graffiti on can make cool constructs and shit.

Subways built on leylines. Magical fights are settled on the F-Train as it travels through time and space.

Verbal magic in the form of Rap.

Urbanmancers who can sprout buildings out of the ground and hit people with them. Wrap lamp posts around someone. Make people get lost in a maze of alleys.

Barista Alchemists who can make themselves and others go into superpowered caffeine rages and can someone foam monsters

Subtle and very much tied to the environment. You do rituals that are odd, but not what you usually call magic. No eye of the newt, feather of the raven, boil and burn and bury at a crossroads kind of bullshit. Don't step on the cracks in the pavement, toss exactly three coins to the second beggar you meet, wear something yellow, and don't ride a lift higher than the fifth floor.

The results are similarly subtle. You never get splashed by cars, people looking for you will find their way quickly and easily if they mean you harm, while pursuers will constantly be delayed by random shit.

Subcultures tap into this constantly and for the most part unknowingly. The bartender at the bar you drink at is so good because of the path he takes to work. The hipsters' lingo draws luck from others.

You don't notice it unless you know what to look for. This type of shit.

While that particular piece of art looks pretty badass, most custom chapters make the mistake of hamming it up too much. Seriously, when you've gone more wolfy than Space Wolves, it's too much. Space Sharks aren't shaped like sharks, Mantis Warriors aren't mantises. Why are the Aztec marines literal Aztecs? Why are the scuba marines literally old timey scuba divers?

Its occured to me: Yahweh is basically a Lovecraftian god. A giant, unknowable and implacable god that is so big that he is beyond the very comprehension of man. His angels defy all logic and physics, his very presence terrifies anyone nearby. Further more, hes far beyond understanding to the point of contradicting and confusing. He doesn't follow logic. Hes basically a Eldritch abomination that thinks humans are neat and worth not acidentally obliterating.

I'm not going to be adding any Adversaries until tomorrow, so try to focus on downloading the new ones, playing some matches and getting your names on the player list.

Adversary is a new, custom format for Magic: The Gathering intended to be played over Cockatrice.

In Adversary, players select an Adversary card from an existing archive, or create their own. These Adversaries enter play from turn one, and possess abilities that change the way the game is played. Talk to me, /tg/. What was your favorite roleplaying moment with another player's character? Did they fight? Did they befriend each other? Did they get drunk and wake up next to each other with matching tattoos and a wedding ring on their respective fingers?

Probably my favorite was our characters sort of getting separated from most of the action. My character had the ability to teleport but only to random locations, so for a long time it was just our two characters traveling together through strange lands and getting to know one another since they were strangers to each other upon getting separated. Also kind of cool since the other character was a villain. I think I liked it because in contrast to most of the game, very little combat happened while they were together, it was simply just trying to find their way back to places they were familiar with.

It can be difficult, but it depends on how the system handles combat and its consequences.

One of my best experiences ever in a roleplaying game was in Legends of the Wulin, when my PC and another character finally came to blows. It had been brewing for a while, they'd gotten off on the wrong foot and never really seen eye to eye, even their Elemental associations were different, as were their methods and approaches to almost everything.

The battle was fierce. They both attacked the other with everything they had, leveraging mystical power and physical might against one another in a conflict that split the ground and pushed both to their limits.

But through the battle, they managed to achieve what no amount of discussion could achieve. Mutual understanding, respect and acceptance of the others way of doing things.

And the best part? The system supported it. In Legends of the Wulin, in addition to the injuries you take in a fight, you also make an End of Combat roll that lets you inflict any kind of condition on your opponent- Including a buff. The all out conflict between our PCs ended in us each giving the other a power boost, a reflection of the emotional growth we'd achieved through the conflict.

Granted, that sort of thing isn't appropriate in some genres, but PvP works a lot better in conflicts where it's not just 'One of them dies', but is more about a clash of ideals and philosophies, and its resolution doesn't need to have an explicit winner/loser.
