Could a street magician sneak into Wizard school and actually learn anything if he reads the right books?
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Probably not. If a convenient "magic for dummies" book existed it'd either be given out easily to prospective students or destroyed to maintain a monopoly, so the school probably contains mostly technical manuals that don't make any damn sense without knowing the basics or having a teacher. And being good at stage magic doesn't mean he has the extreme intelligence/genes/spark/gift/whatever that a lot of settings require for actual magic.
>>
>>44414045
Most likely not. But he still can pretend to study and pass the exams with bluff, deceptions and distractions. He's a street magician, it just screams that his Bluff/Sleight of Hand/whatever else are through the roof.
>>
>>44414045
Real magic? no.

But he could become the best bluffomancer.

Essentially it is all psychological and convinces people you cast a spell. If you suceed on bluff/perform/etc they are affected appropriately.

Bonuses/penalties given depending on whether you know the actual somatic and verbal components, using focuses and stuff, also whether the target does.

Hello,

You have a long way to go. Google how to play magic. Get familiar with the card types, rarities, phases, and whatever. You won't find any helpful people here when it's comes to starting mtg. Also prepare to get raped hard for the first year or so unless you are willing to drop 2000 dollas.

With the sound of computers and muffled voices you wake up in a stasis pod onboard the Air caste transport Kor'Ra'sha. Your eyes slowly start yo adjust to the bright lights as the pod slowly opens, melting the remaining ice on you and inside the pod.
As you step out from the pod with only a yellow jumpsuit a drone hovers slowly over to you, accompanied by what looks like an older Earth Caste doctor.

Can we talk about Legends of the Wulin? I'm getting ready to run it again and skimming the rules over, and find myself wondering if there ever was much community content made for it here or anywhere about. Home made kung fu styles, loresheets, that sort of thing.

Also does anyone in here play it/have played it? How did you enjoy it? I love the game to death but my last attempt at GMing was ended after a few months due to school work load, so I'm pretty excited to be trying it again

Good to see some things never change.

To answer your question:

There's a lot of stuff, but it's of varying quality. Combination elemental styles are interesting but corrupt|enlightened double styles give you an idea how deep the hole goes.

Can't answer the second question, since my group prefers things on the lighter side, so LotW is right out, sadly.

To add another question to the mix: does anyone know how to do LotW's dice system on Anydice?

What would a catfolk subrace focusing more on the "good fortune"/"bad fortune"/"magician's familiar" aspect of cats be like?

Think about all of the negative stereotypes about gypsies.

Now imagine everyone wants to shag them.
>>
>>44413534
Most catfolk already get bonuses to dex, luck and/or charisma, even those based on big cats that ought to be more about size and toughness.

Still, it's a start, just grant them some sort of ability to curse people or offer ways to avoid danger. Perhaps they really do have nine lives, though it takes the form of being able to avoid certain death nine times. Failure to activate the ability might well result in actually dying, and of course using it all up will leave them as vulnerable as anyone else.

The old saying goes "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought her back" so maybe they can recharge their lives, or even return from actual death by learning a new secret from the experience?
>>
>>44413534
Catfolk should just spend all day sleeping and then bitch at their party members to give them free food.

Alright, back to Lloyd after long enough.

You and the rest of your companions spend much of the day ostensibly investigating this mysterious essence-sucker, purported in a few cases to have done the same with blood.

Keyword: "Ostensibly," at least in your sake. Instead, you snoop around asking about the Wulf Company and their dealings. Way you see it, if they're connected to this vaguely-defined conspiracy, odds are your killer is too. Two birds that Duchess Victoria would like dead with one... Darkness blast. Nobody had much in the way of bad things to say about any of the noteworthy figures of the company, at least until they suddenly ditched the nation of Noba in this era of undead, when Ennase in particular was under the siege of a supernatural serial killer.

Then people's bad things to say multiplied a lot, naturally, but none of that helped you figure out WHY they left.

You're not sure if you spoke with enough-or even the right-people about the subject, but as daylight segues into twilight, people are even less willing to talk.

No thread for weird roleplaying stories? Let's change that

>play FATE with people over IRC
>every is magicl girls protecting against monsters
>get to protect 2 kids in a penthouse
>decide to make food
>think of either chicken or pancakes
>decide to do both
>time stopping bitch (who is totally not homura) feels very strongly opposed to chicken and pancakes together
>wants to throw them out of the window
>threatens to shoot the pancakes
>everyone else goes wtf IC and OOC
>not!homu snaps and puts a gun to her head, threatening to kill herself if those two foods are placed together
>rest of the group stop her, have her safety off gun fly out of the window
>she stops angrily off after grabbing her other gun back from the 2 young kids she gave it to earlier
>next 2 hours is one half talking to her, which contains lots of crying, people blaming themself for no reason and not!homu being an unreasonable bitch
>other half plays vidya with the 2 kids

This was the most overblown reaction I have ever seen. Over fucking chicken and pancakes. The player said he wanted to show how strongly he felt about it.

So how does /tg/ feel about chicken and pancakes?

Star Wars CYOA

The date is 4BBY at the height of the Empire, the Imperials reign over half of known space, but not quite yet on your backwater planet... You're a former hutt slave who was owned by a Tatooine wraid hunter until he got himself mauled by a Krayt Dragon and you had the good sense to haul ass out of Mos Eisley and make a new life in Anchorhead with a brand new name. You wake up in your rented apartment at the rise of Tatooine's second sun, Tatoo II. Your back aches as you get out of your bed, springy and falling apart. You try to get a wash only to realise your water vaporators are busted. Again. You have work serving drinks in the Cantina soon, and Guganga is going to throw you on the street if you're late again. Hutts are naturally lazy creatures, and loathe humans who don't look good in metal bikinis. On the other hand, your friend Jabulba has some deathsticks, and he's being talking about a big job that could finally make you enough money to get passage off this place.

After you're dressed and ready, you head outside. The sun is already sweltering, and you're dying for a drink. The watering hole is a short walk away from the door out of your apartment. Three shady looking characters are huddled next to it. Two of them are hooded but you see one of them is a Weequay. He grimaces at you when you lock eyes with him. You decide to....

>A. Go to work at the Cantina, another day, another credit. You think one of the dancers is into you, and you don't want to get on Guganga's bad side.

>B. Go to meet up with your friend, the chance of a big payday has to be better than a stable job on the poverty line.

>C. Get a drink at the watering hole. You might be late for work, but you're gonna be dead of dehydration if you don't get a drink.

I'll just respond to first choice at first to get the ball rolling.

The prospect of heading to work seems less and less apprealing the closer you get to the cantina. As you draw near and see two Aqualish in a fist fight and a Rodian closing in behind with a vibroknife, you make a turn and head to the spaceport to meet up with Jabulba. You see him sitting on a cargo crate talking to a dreary eyed Ithorian. He grins at you as he catches your eye, his own eyes reflecting Tatooine's sun in a way only the silky black eyes of Nautolans can. The Ithorian lets out a giant cloud of smoke as you arrive, and slumps off towards the cantina. When he is clear, Jabulba tosses you a deathstick.

"Suck that kark up my friend, for today is our last day of being losers my friend, I know a guy who works packing cargo ships bound to Nar Shadaa who can make sure a certain crate full of spice makes it on the next shipment."

He winks at you as he inhales on the tube, letting it fall to the sand as he exhales.

"The crate could have us on it, man. We could get out of here."

You need credits and spice first. Guganga deals in spice... Lots of it.

>A. Suggest a heist, steal Gugangas spice and live like kings!

>B. Going to Guganga and offer to strike a mutual deal

>C. Lurk around and look for opportunities to make some easy money

Hey /tg/
My little group has been playing WoD for a long time and fancy dipping our toes into a few other settings/systems to try something new.

I've volunteered to run a Fallout game, set in Florida. I've got a few general story ideas etc, but wondered what you'd recommend system wise? Want something pretty easy to use and as fun to do none physical things as it is to fight.

Thanks in advance.
Also atory ideas would be welcome too.

Savage Worlds.
>>
Really, there's two effective ways to play Fallout. If you want a gritter, more lethal game where one bullet can ruin your whole day, then go for GURPS. Hell, the beta version of Fallout 1 used 1e GURPS mechanics. Hit locations, effects of radiation, crazy monsters, improvised tech, and pretty much everything you see in Fallout can be done in GURPS. There's a really quality fan supplement for GURPS, mostly focusing on FO1&2 with some FO3 content as well.

If you want a more cinematic, heroic game, you can't go wrong with Savage Worlds. SW characters aren't invulnerable, but they can pull off feats that your average joe can't, just like protagonists in Fallout. It also can handle hit locations, environmental effects, jury-rigged solutions, and wacky weapons and powers, just in a more abstract way than GURPS. Not to mention that your players will likely find the digest-sized SW book a lot less intimidating than the two main GURPS books, alongside supplements like Gun-Fu and Ultra-Tech. This is probably the one that you want. Again, there's a really quality fan supplement out there that'll come up quick if you search for "Savage Worlds Fallout."
