Following a similar thread from a few days ago; what are some genres/themes/settings that you feel are under represented out there?

Always looking for inspirations for projects, I'm looking for things that stand out and aren't just your Tolkien fantasy or 40k rip-offs. Personally, big ones I'd like to see is stone age/bronze age fantasy and science fantasy stuff. Stuff other than soft sci-fi, although it sounds hypocritical since complaining about 40k rip-offs, but more that line, where magic and fantasy tropes aren't hand-waved as nanobots or psychic powers.

My dream game and pet project for some time is:

Small scale (6/10 mm) fantasy mass combat with a focus on giant ass monsters.
Like titan battles in epic but with motherfucking wizards and dragons.

>Your earthquake spell just killed 100 knights.
>Your behemoth can't slow down fast enough and steps on your skeleton horde.

Playing a Metal Gear game here pretty soon and I'm playing a brain in jar piloting a pretty convincing exosuit/robot body to do my dirty work (imagine Metal Knight from OPM to the extreme). Time delay and all that has been figured in (I'll be botching perception saves left and right).

I'm looking for neat and convincing exo or robot suits which'd lead you to believe there's a person inside, or it is itself a person. I'll be dumping what I've got.

Bonus points for concealed face by any means. It's the hardest part to get right.

Hey /tg/, so I've been working on a system for a while now and it's gone through so many iterations and changes in the past year so I'm looking for some opinions and fresh advice. It's a lot to explain so I'm just going to give general explanations for key features and if you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

(I'm going to start by explaining the lore so that the scope and scenarios that are presenting in games makes sense.)

The current lore for the world that the game is built into is that some cataclysmic event triggers a mass evolution in the planet Earth and all types of flora and fauna evolve/mutate at accelerated rates. Humanity says, "Nope, screw this, I'm out." and retreats to fallout shelters, bunkers, caves, pretty much any place where they can hide while the chaos surges on.

After about 80-100 years after the tides of evolution seem to stagnate, humanity has reverted to tribal groups for most with only few settlements reaching positions of high culture. The natural world is impossibly dangerous at every turn with most predators enjoying the additions to their food chain while humanity continues to hold their ground thanks to members of their community who stumble unwittingly into a method of triggering evolution in themselves.

Ancient buildings and technology litters areas where cities once were. Finding rusted weapons or decayed clothing is common. While spoken language has remained somewhat consistent (different colonies may have developed different words or dialects but the whole of speech is still understood) written language become almost entirely butchered with some colonies lacking the concept entirely. Reading "ancient" language is like trying to decipher a toddler's terrible handwriting and spelling x1000.

Hunting parties are considered some of the most dangerous groups to join but the prestige and materials earned off of a successful hunt keeps the profession with a steady supply of volunteers. Aside from assisting in population control, these hunting groups train some of the most powerful individuals a colony has to offer and provides groups with food sources/materials that can't normally be grown in agricultural facilities.

In more civilized settlements, expeditionary groups form often in order to search for relics from an ancient age, study the creatures in the wilds, or for personal glory. The expeditions are often in direct competition with each other and act closer to nomadic tribes or gangs depending on their group. Thanks to these groups, more and more colonies are being discovered and tribal systems that are too weak to explore themselves are able to establish contact with other humans through the expeditions.

Having one or two recruiters in an expedition is a must as you are in direct competition with other expeditions so having more manpower (and disposable troops) is a must when competing with rivals.

The creatures that inherited this new world are animals that have grown larger, smarter, and more aggressive in most cases. While the exact types of evolution vary from species to species, one feature to take note of is differences in their species' history compared to similar species.

Domesticated dogs grew alongside humans for most of their life so when the evolution began, household canines started to adopt more human features (such as a bipedal stance, limited thumb movement, communication skills, and minor tool use) while wild wolves grew large and brutish (closer to a gorilla/worgen than the sleek canine form they had before).

Trees have grown massive and cluttered with some of the smaller trees closer to full grown redwoods than saplings. Some vegetation has gained limited mobility, the ability to use some senses, or have a sense of self preservation.

Weather patterns and other strange phenomena have been sighted such as violent earthquakes that throw large rocks into the air at the fault lines, strange lightweight glass falling from the sky leaving visible cracks in the skyline, tidal waves of frost crossing over tundras as if they were the waves of an ocean over seaweed.

That's pretty much covers the bases for the lore.

If anyone is lurking, I'm going to move onto gameplay. If nothing comes up I'll just end thread to save time.

The system was originally meant to be a way I could play a high-speed, action-based game with friends and was built around the mentality that it could be used to run sessions of Monster Hunter, RWBY, or Dark Souls (with some small tweaks). Over time though, I wanted to have something that was more my own so I built this world to house the system.

With this in mind, many of the mechanics are built around an idea of accelerating the flow of gameplay, simplifying rolls, and making user customization key.

Character creation actually begins at Level 0 and the level cap is set at 5. The reason for this is that many stats scale directly off of your current level and it was difficult to come up with meaningful differences in levels for larger level ranges.

Character stats start pretty low with scores of -2 to 3 being your range at level zero. Level 5 stats can potentially reach 12 through min-maxing but about 7-9 is the average for your best stats.

The stats are split up as:
>Spirit:
Acts as the main stat for rolls dealing with willpower or most things dealing with an evolution in your character. It also scales into a barrier that a character can learn to project that acts like a pseudo-health bar.

>Fortitude:
It's the basic measurement of how hardy your body is. It scales directly into your HP and can be used to see whether that fall that you took broke all of your bones or just a few.

>Knowledge:
Deals with your accuracy for ranged weapons, perception, and comes into play for a type of blood magic called "Arcanes". It mixes Wis and Int for all intents and purposes.

>Strength:
It's your bread and butter beat-em-up stat. Hit harder with increasingly large objects until it dies.

>Speed:
Affects anything that would be related to Dex. Affects base move speed, number of actions, and your ability to dodge.

You were in your mid 20s and working as a junior associate in a modest company. It might not be the most glamorour job that someone could have but it was the best you could do straight out of college. "Izumi, can you get this data to me by the end of today?"

"Yes!" Unfortunately, ever since you got the job you've been busy. Your life has revolved around pleasing your bosses to hopefully move up the company faster.

"I... I have to endure this for her." The only one that pops up into your mind was your beloved girlfriend. You've been with her for almost three years now and she was the only reason you can still smile at work. "I have to do this for Mai."

You knew that if it wasn't for your girlfriend, you would've quit this job a long time ago. However since you had big plans this year you had to show yourself worthy of her. "I'm going to ask her to marry me this year!" You made up your mind and your heart was motivated.

"Izumi, get this to me as well." The requests start pouring in especially after lunch.

By three in the afternoon, all you wanted to do was finally go home and relax. "Ah... Mai... I want to see you already..." You sigh out. However, the picture of Mai on your desk would have to do for now. Just then, you receive a text from her.

"Hey Izumi! How are you doing today? Are we still on for dinner after work? It is our anniversary tonight"

"Ah! That's right it was our anniversary today..." You thought to yourself.

[ ] "Yeah we are still on!" Try and sneak out of the office without anybody seeing you.

[ ] There's no way your boss will let you go early tonight. "Ah I can't." She usually drags you out to drink at the nearby bar.

So if Age of Sigmar is just WH:FB later in the timeline, how are they going to advance the story/create new material for normal Warhammer Fantasy?

The old world is gone and ended. Everything is continuing in AoS now.

Black library may still sell the old books in digital, but no new content.

Age of Sigmar is the continuation of the story, with End Times bridging the gaps between the 2. And instead of doing a stagnant setting with AoS, they plan on doing a continuing story with it. Something different.

40k and old warhammer were stuck in their timeline, but with AoS it is supposed to be different.

>inb4 veritable shitstorm over aos

So I picked up some WHFB stuff a while back (a starter kit like thing of some kind) because I was going to try and get into minis gaming. Assuming I ever figure out the rules, does this mean that it basically won't be a thing anymore? Or would it still be something people will be selling? And if I have to get Age of Sigmar instead, does it play the same way and have all the same rules?

Ebay and flea markets, pray you're lucky. Otherwise, buy some pieces, get some resin, start casting your own.

It's a fun game, but I figure it'll be dead by the end of 2016. WotC isn't really pushing it very hard.

that sucks. if i could just get like one more expansion and maybe some official tile packs id be so happy. i just want decent replayability.

I broke up with one of my groups tonight, /tg/.

I joined them back in April to try out DnD5e. We had some good times: 3 GMs, rotating game schedule, couple of homebrews, general fun.

A couple of months ago, I stopped having fun. A couple of the players had started to just come across as obnoxious, the games became increasingly uninspired and railroady, and the gameplay seemed to devolve into an arms race of oneupsmanship.

And yet it seemed like everyone else was still having a blast. I still don't know if anyone else feels the same way.

Tonight I told them I have to back away for an indeterminate period. They say I'm always welcome to come back, but I don't know if I can tell them I won't be without hurting feelings: I've got grievances, but they're still having fun. I've got to go.

tl;dr: Left group voluntarily because I'm being No Fun Allowed.

Commiserate with me, /tg/. You ever leave a group 'cause you knew you were the problem?

We have players do that pretty frequently in our group. Nobody really holds it against them. Sometimes you just need a break to appreciate the game.
>>
I have friends that I can talk about /tg/ stuff with, but not game with. Just like I have some friends I would go to jail for but would last two weeks with as a roommate.

Just figure out the boundaries and work from there.
>>
>>44437915
Man, I know this is going to happen to me at some point, because I've been a ForeverDM for nearly 3 years straight now, and I've been with my current main group for 2, and while they're awesome people and I love playing with them, I know that I'm gonna start losing the touch as a DM and their interest in the campaign will slip.

I know that at some point, I'll get burned out on the lack of any sort of recognition or thanks for the work I put in, as ungrateful as that sounds.

Mostly because the concept of telling people "You guys aren't trying hard enough and it's making it not fun for me" is not something I can really see myself doing.

Alright boys. I'm LARPing soon, and Jim Beam is the only way I'm making it through. Need help coming up with rules for a LARP drinking game to play on site. Because it's a scout camp, alcohol isn't alowed, so naturally the goal is to blackout.

Every time someone casts magic missile
>>
>>44437772
Every time you see a mismatched character.

>Behemoth of a grill playing a noble instead of an ogre
>Scrawny paleshit playing fighter instead of peasant with wasting illness.
etc.

Alternatively any time you involuntarily cringe.
>>
What's the specific larp?

Also, you do know that by drinking on a BSA camp, you will get the entire organization kicked off the site and blacklisted from getting to use any BSA camps in that conference, right? I'm not saying that can't be a deliberate goal, but know what you're doing before you do it, yeah?

Assuming this is an American fantasy larp like NERO:
>Any time you see modern clothing
>Any time you see a "hot dog" sword instead of something that actually looks like a weapon
>Any time you see poorly applied makeup/prosthetics
>Any time you hear a lengthy character backstory
>Any time you hear an edgy character backstory
>Any time you an "ultralight" weapon composed of graphite and kite tape
>Any time you hear somebody try to ruleslawyer their way out of a situation rather than just rolling with it and roleplaying
>Any time you see NPCs in tabards instead of actual costumes
>Any time you hear people talking shit about other people OOC rather than staying in-character
>Any time you hear somebody talking about something IT-related rather than staying in-character
>Any time you hear somebody whine about being "hit too hard"
>Any time you watch somebody who has clearly been playing a long time solo a module built for lower-level players and imply they're a badass for doing so

That should get you blackout-level, if not completely dead.

Armament Haki.jpg
94KB, 843x948px
How would you intoduce/use the concept of Haki in your setting?

For those who don't know what it is, it's a special ability that can be learned that allows the use of various high level abilities such as empowering your body and strikes to allow you to strike individuals who would normally be immune to normal damage (such as people who can turn their bodies into insubstational substances). This ability can also be extended to any items held by the user such as swords. Another abiliy is the sense Haki which allows you to "feel" the presence of people around you and can vary from being able to read the attack patterns of weaker opponents to detecting the life of people around you (you can even feel when they die as well).

Finally the last ability is the Kings Haki where you basically extert your will and overpower people weaker then you, you could clear a whole room of people simply by staring them down this way.

Some individuals might possess all 3 of these abilities and some only posses one or two or are exceptional with one of them.
