CALLISTO AND EUROPA HAVE GONE DARK. Gravitational sensors picked up a powerful, but brief blip before the blackout. There was scarcely anything to go on, except for the meager, garbled stream of data that squeaked its way through the disturbance.
In the beginning of a new space race, the loss of the frontier stations as Earth knew it, would crush mankind's ambitions to strike it out. People back on Earth decided no, that they can't fold so easily, not when they're starting so well.
They sent you to solve their problems for them. Welcome, Mission Commander Blake Hitches. From the dug-in Ceres station, it's off to Callisto.
Before the completion of the new refitted booster, you made a tense but workable, tentative peace with your former Mission Commander and not-so-forthcoming Shae Qenbek. You've been disclosed that the ship is not just going to survey and troubleshoot the beleagured Callisto station and get Europa's operations back online again, but that the ship has a payload for "extra measure". [1/?]

YOU HEARD a piece of bad news on the way: A cosmonaut known to many was on-route to rotation to Callisto. His name was Mikhail Lebedev. He's been around the block and known by quite a few. During joint-nation training, you were introduced to him at Star City, the nickname for the Cosmonaut Training Centre. A lot of people eventually work with Lebedev up in space after training, and you were one to make fast friends with him.
Meanwhile, as your ship gets nearer and nearer now to Callisto, you've felt a nagging feeling again. The experimental "booster" was quite odd, but strangely effective to making a quick burn on the Callisto flight.
Overall, the new booster's mounts and cowling made your ship look more like a submarine more than ever, now with new vanes mounted on the main hull.
It started off with space seemingly rippling and splashing into many fine points of light in your wake, but it started to feel like your ship was starting to skim under water, seeing something brilliant, perhaps the beginning of something...faster than light. It was like reality was more pliable than ever, something the ship could perhaps, go beyond, if briefly.
For a split second, it's as if you stuck your head "underwater" and saw a new world underneath the surface.
As the ship rattles on, you feel something blink behind you. You even swear some of the lights flickered oddly.
[ ] Look at what's behind you. Maybe there's a pair of eyes burning into the back of your head?
[ ] Let's floor the experimental booster like it was meant to.

That ASSHOLE.
First he steals from me, then he rubs it in my face with this retarded "calling card," and now he's threatening Charlotte too!? I swear to God, if he was right here, I'd just-
"Hey."
I jump at the sensation of a hand touching my shoulder.
"...oh," I breathe a sigh of relief. "Theresa."
"Yeah, it's not like I went anywhere," she replies.
"Sorry," I shake my head, "reading this stupid card has me all pissed off."
Out of fear that I'll end up lasering it to death, I shove the card at Theresa and then head for the door. With her hurrying after me, I stomp down the stairs and return to the living room where I left Charlotte... and it looks like she's made herself more comfortable since I left her a few minutes ago.
Seeing her all sprawled out on the couch like this without a care in the world almost makes me forget my foul mood for a few seconds.

What's your opinion on BARDS /tg/? Do you like playing the class? What's your favourite race to pair it with?
They're just a crappy flavor of caster with a shitty spell-list. Not a fan to be honest.
>>44594769
You can play a better bard most of the time by just tacking on levels in musical prowess in your skills list.
The only exception I've ever seen is Anima, in which you can literally cut the shit out of people with rockin' lyre playing. And one time in D&D 3.5e where I watched a munchkin fucking whistle his spells so he could keep his hands free.
>>44594769
They were my first class, and I love them. I usually go with human, but any race can be fun from a flavor perspective.
My favorite thing to do with them is branch out what their "performance" is. It doesn't just always have to be a lyre and some singing; dancing or acting can be fun, too.
Does your PC character carry any objects for mostly sentimental reasons? If so, what are they?
A page from a beginner's spell book, containing the very first spell she was ever able to cast.
A very large axe.
The amount of people he killed with it makes him very sentimental about it.
had a gnome that only used a greatsword for sentimental reasons
What race makes the best sailors and why?
Can't think of a race that's already been made? Then make a new race that seems right at home on a ship.
>>44593521
Dwarves because they have large steel dreadnaughts while every other race uses faggoty wooden ships.
Dwarven craftsmanship is top-notch, they have amazing camaraderie and boarding their ships is very hard because their decks are dwarf-sized. All this makes dwarves wildly superior not only on land, but also on the sea.
Elves would make great sailors, they have a natural trust for one another and generally believe in the greater good for their people so there would be little threat of mutiny.
On top of that their natural dexterity would make them great swashbucklers and rope climbers, and keen elven eyes could spot threats early.
The Hadozee from 3.5 D&D, apemen who are naturally at home in the rigging of a ship
Name one flaw
>>44593517
It's not the revised version.
IDK, I've never played it. My FLGS has the reprints though.

I ran that system for quite a few years and remember it very fondly. That said, even I don't think it was perfect.
To answer you question: class / level based system.
I am actually, legitimately diagnosed autistic. I'm not good at conversation, because I put a lot of thought into every word I say, which causes me to miss my chance and end up saying nothing. In fact it took me over 10 minutes to type this post.
This gets harder when I have the additional step of "how would this other person who is not like me act?", and I'm not motivated to give my characters complex personalities anymore because I know I'll eventually slip back into playing as myself.
My last RP group broke up over it, but I don't want to quit roleplaying because I enjoy it so much. How do I get better?
>practice
Technically that's what I'm doing, unless you mean a dedicated practice exercise outside of game sessions.
>an hero
Nice meme.
Play online over IRC or some other text-based medium.
It's technically practice, but you will be getting better at roleplaying both by doing and by observing and copying the other players. Eventually you will be at a level where you can produce competent and eloquent blocks of roleplaying text, and then it's just a matter of speaking those out loud.

Play by Post
My suggestion would to build up your confidence in everyday social actions. The more comfortable you feel with yourself in general, the more comfortable you'll be role playing.
Find a good group that'll be patient with you. Maybe even others who are in similar situations as you are. Knowing that its just a game and there are little major consequences for mistakes, your objective should and always be to have fun.
Create a sturdy character with a few major bullet points of personality. Reference these points whenever you can. Perhaps try giving your character a few catch phrases tied to the bullet points. That way you'll have a rehearsed response that would fit with your character. Once you get comfortable you can connect dots and add more to your character.
Never feel that you are abnormal. Everyone roleplays differently, everyone gets something different from playing. The common denominator is that everyone wants to have fun. Get in a good group and you'll quickly get the hang of it.
Thinking like a near future mecha pilots vs. cthulhu-type monsters game... open to suggestions for both setting and system. Any thoughts /tg/?
Sources of inspiration toward this idea so far:
Gargantia
Heavy Gear
Gundam
Aldnoah.Zero
CthulhuTech (I've heard the setting and system are both bad... which is why I'm asking for help with this)
>>44592756
>CthulhuTech
It's bad but it's not *quite* as bad as /tg/ makes out. The fluff is okay… nothing grand but okay, a bit too much edgy but nothing out of place. The system is serviceable if nothing amazing It's not FATAL bad.
The only major problem is how broken the power level is of the different classes. There is no over lap. Your players either all need to be taggers or no ones is.
But if your looking for a cthulhu vs robo tech game it will do the job.
>>44592756
Cthulhutech isn't that bad. There's issues, yes, but mostly they're easy to handle. The only thing you can't do, that breaks everything utterly, is something it straight up warns you about: Do. Not. Mix. Splats. Taggers will laugh at anything but other Taggers. Mechs step on anything not on mech scale like they're ants. The... shit, the Evangelion expies, whatever they're called, the shit on anything, including most mechs.
>>44595254
Except that even though they claim inspiration from Macross for part of the setting, the only part that resembles Macross is their Zentraedi knockoffs.
WHERE THE FUCK IS MY VALKYRIE, CTHULHUTECH?!
I want to run an All Jedi Star Wars game. Maybe two hundred years before the prequels. What would be a good system to run this in?
It doesn't have to be a Star Wars system specifically. I'm just familiar with d20/saga, and having ship stats would be handy.
My biggest complaint with the d20 system and Star Wars is that it makes it impossible for a padawan and his master to adventure together. Something without "level advancement" and the like would be cool.

I haven't touched the FF stuff, is it any good?
Off-hand, the best system I can think of would be Dogs in the Vineyard.
>hurr Mormons
No, really. I've used it for several different "band of wandering warriors" settings, and it works really well for what it's designed to do: tell a fun story about people in quasi-authority making hard decisions. It's pretty easy to pick up once you get the hang of it.

How many active epic-level adventurers are there in a setting like Forgotten Realms at any given time?
Too many.
Not many. Most end up as gods or trans-dimensional beings before all is said and done.
No, this is not an excuse for you to make the PCs suddenly cease to exist because it's statistically impossible for them to be together.
Tell us about the settings you're working on. Homebrew General has turned into game design, so let's have a lore thread to accompany its mechanical thread.
Questions, ideas, anything's welcome.
What, no one's writing anything? With all the GM threads we've had recently, I find that hard to believe. Bump.

i've been working hard on the whole candy thing, but every time i do a little research for inspiration i'm always motivated to start another project altogether
Looking for cool cultural stuff. I'm building a world and my group loves role-playing and talking with the NPCs and stuff, so I'm planning on adding a lot of interesting cultural beliefs to help flesh out etiquette and superstitions, objects of good/bad luck, religious sermons, and the customs of the nobility and wealthy. Any ideas or good sources for inspiration?
