Seeing the world in slow motion has both good points and bad points. Logically, you know that you're falling as fast as you normally would be, caught in gravity's inescapable pull, but the magic bound within your red velvet ring makes it seem so much slower than that. You're not quite sure how that works, actually – although you're pretty sure that Scathach would just wave the issue away with “magic”.
Fighting in slow motion, you have so much extra time to think, to drag your body away from lethal attacks and to watch out for openings. Time to plan, to scheme and generally just to plot the best way of getting the desired outcome. All good things. Falling in slow motion, on the other hand, is hardly a productive use of your time. All you can do is watch, helpless, as the two treasures you worked so hard to find spiral away from you, tumbling end over end as they plummet into the abyss below.
You would have followed them – almost certainly dying on impact – if not for Midnight's magic, hurling you through space to a short, craggy ledge. It's not much, but it's far better than falling.
Killing that damn worm, you decide bitterly, has just been bumped to the top of your to-do list.
>>44835409
Swallowing down a rising tide of anger, you focus your thoughts on the most immediate issue – studying the area into which you have fallen. This isn't even close to the kind of tunnel network you were briefly plunged into before. It's more like a giant hollow, a vast cavern dug out from beneath the earth. You can even see buildings at the very bottom, crumpled and deformed by the force of hitting the ground. They must have fallen from above, whole chunks of the city pulled down with the collapsing earth.
The sheer scale of it causes you to pause, uncertain of how best to tackle the monumental pit. Checking Midnight's blade, you curse softly at the sight of it – only about a third of the razor sharp metal is still dyed black. You must have used it more than you thought as you were fleeing from Raphael. Three jumps left – maybe more, if you can wet the blade in demon blood. That seemed to recharge its magic somewhat, far more than time ever did.
As if drawn by your thoughts, demons of all types begin to appear around the crumpled ruins. From dog-headed Kobolds come to sniff out any scattered valuables to prowling Ghouls on the hunt for any easy prey, quite a crowd has gathered down below you. There are even a few of those cultists from Mizuchi's shine, staggering about in simple confusion. It must have seemed like their world was ending, you think with a sudden stab of pity – a sensation that you can sympathise with.
Still, if you're going to search out your lost treasures, you'll need to make a move soon. Wait too long, and the Kobolds will have made off with your ill-gotten gains. Then again, escape would be easy from here – a single blink, and you'd be free.

Should I read RIFTS and convert the setting to an OSR ruleset, /tg/?
Hell, maybe I can play it as written. Anything with this much cool robot and power armor art couldn't be THAT bad right?
>>44834602
>Hell, maybe I can play it as written
Of course you can. You'll have to houserule things as you go along but any mature adult with half a brain could manage it. Do not believe the epic meems about Rifts (lowercase BTW) being some unplayable morass. Get stuck in, and change things to suit yourself when needed.
Rifts is proof that even the most godawful, hopelessly stupid, ruinously useless mechanics does not make a game inherentlyunfun. It makes every PF hater look like an idiot for complaining that the game is bad because Rifts is hilariously____fun___and people who think you can't have it in a bad system are morons.
I've been a rifts fan since it came out in 1991. The setting is a fun, everything but the kitchen sink post apocalyptic, mecha, magic mashup. The rules are little more than house rules 1st Ed AD&D with a percentage based skill system. Very simple actually. The problem is they are arranged in an unorganized manner. Then you pile on the mass of sourcebooks, world books, dimension books and it gets confusing and contradictory. Savage World Rifts may save the game. Also check out the TMNT and/or After the Bomb RPG which has a fun mutant animal creation system written by Erick Wujick.
Could /tg/ show me their favorite games?
My steam account is worth about 300$, but I completed every game, I'm bored.

Duelyst. It's a trading card game akin to magic or hearthstone but with a grid for units to move on. F2P but I wouldn't say P2W at all - no paid exclusive units (just planned aesthetics), legendaries take a quarter of the time to get than in HS, and every time a unit gets nerfed you can refund it for the full price. Is nice.
It's not perfect though, the current meta isn't that enjoyable and has irritating RNG creeping in, but it's still very fun.
Also is it's got about 30 "win in one turn" challenges which are like lil' puzzles
>The party meets in a dark corner of the local tavern
I seriously hope you guys don't do this unironically.
>>44834066
There are worse ways, especially with a newbie gm/players. Simple and decently effective, so long as you can segue into the plot quickly.
>>44834066
Is a bright corner okay?
>>44834066
That's fucking dumb, OP.
How could the whole party fit in the dark corner when my GMPC is already sitting there?
Let's make an imperial planet in 40k. Here are the rules:
>1: Only one post per Anon
>2: To make a post void then you need three votes from three diffrent Anons
>3: You can only add stuff that is possible in 40k
>4: In your post you may also add something to "flesh" it out, e.g: The oceans are frozen, etc
>5: No shitposters
>6: If a new post contradict a previous post then the newer one is void
>7: Have fun
>>44833692
The native inhabitants have a greenish skin.
A thin atmosphere and proximity to the sun forces everyone to wear hats like this because it's too hot.
The planet is located perilously close to the Eye of Terror
How do you make players feel accomplished after saving the [kingdom/world/multiverse] in a fast and rewarding way?
My last session devoted a large period of time to thanking the PCs for saving the populations of four worlds. I was told that: (1) it dragged out, and (2) there was no emotional impact.
I had a great crowd gathered before party, composed of many inhabitants of the four worlds (thus, four groups). I had each group approach the party one by one, offer gifts to the party (including much food for feasting), discuss matters, give a few leads relevant to the overarching plot, and ask for advice or help with something. Each group was composed of nameless NPCs, but they had different attitudes, manners of speech, gifts to offer, matters to discuss, leads, and things to ask for advice or help for.
The players asserted that the way I GMed made them blend together, and the end result was the players feeling as if they played out the same scene four times in a row. This made it drag out, and even if not, it was still too long
The other issue the players identified was that the crowd was composed of nameless NPCs who were everymen of their worlds. The party had met and befriended various unique, named NPCs from those worlds, but I deliberately chose *not* to highlight them in the scene (they were in the background). My logic was thus:
Is it more meaningful to be told by a friend, "Thanks a bunch. You are a great person, and I look up to you," or to be told the exact same thing by a stranger who has simply heard of you? I would think that the latter is more powerful a message, because it means that your deeds have had so much impact that even many nameless strangers appreciate you.
My players did not see things the same way. They wanted to be thanked by named, unique NPCs, but this does not make sense to me, because it says nothing of how the everyman views the party.
How would you treat such players to a fast and meaningful "thank you for saving us" scene?
Depends on the players
>>44833106
>Is it more meaningful to be told by a friend, "Thanks a bunch. You are a great person, and I look up to you," or to be told the exact same thing by a stranger who has simply heard of you?
The former, what are you a mollusk? That's not even a question
>>44833118
The players and their complaints have been described above.
>>44833197
Someone who is a friend is already likely to have a good disposition towards you, and it is unsurprising for such a person to express appreciation towards you.
A complete stranger expressing praise and admiration towards you for your heroic deeds is a testament to the far-reaching impact of said deeds, as well as to how wide your reputation has spread, is it not?
What's your preferred resolution mechanic, /tg/?

http://dnd.wizards.com/search/site/strahd
Official press release is supposed to drop Monday, but the draft posts showing up in their search above and the press release preview pics that have been leaked all but confirm it.
What do you most hope to get out of this sudden shift to Wizards releasing a Ravenloft adventure, of all things? Eberron and Dark Sun when?
I hope the adventure can also serve as a kit to run Ravenloft campaigns.
>RAVENLOFT
>FUCKING
>CONFIRMED
Great! The return of gothic to Dungeons and Dragons! I will celebrate this by conducting an all-dwarf adventure scenario based on pic related.
Your name is Kline Bueller, and you are currently cleaning out the back room of the Drunken Sparrow. You wanted to make something of yourself in the big city and your goal was to get out of the shadow of your elder sister, Kaire, who was one of the S-ranked adventurers. It was surprising, considering you and your sister lived in a rustic, far-off village. But unfortunately, it wasn't easy to get to the top with your average skills. You still had a ways to go before you could consider yourself a proper adventurer.
"Old man, I'm finished," You call out as exit the back room, all tired and sore from moving boxes and sweeping dust around. "Everything's in order." You wonder if this was punishment for being too ambitious about being strong.
"Ah, very good, young man. I'll inform your guildmaster that you helped me." The bartender smiles at you as he puts up a cleaned glass upon the shelf. "Do you want a drink of water, before you go?"
"No, no thanks. I'll be going now. I got something important to do." You shake your head.
"Well then, take care." The bartender waves goodbye at you, before he goes back to cleaning his glasses.

You walk out of the tavern and make your way through the streets of the town of Grandale, where the Five Blades guild were located at. The town itself was a nice place to live, full of good people, but the guild itself... was another story. It was composed of your usual rowdy troublemakers. The guildmaster, Lora, took great pleasure in humiliating you as you were given what were basically chores. It was hard to even get one of the good quests because your seinors quickly ripped them off the quest board before you even had a chance to look at them. You cursed yourself for being so short.
The loud and rambunctious cheers of your fellow guild members greet your ears as you enter the hall and see two brawny men arm-wrestle each other. Typical as ever. However, you had no time for this nonsense right now, you had a very important topic to discuss with the boss. Said topic was about your promotion from a D-rank Rogue to a C-rank. Question was, how would you approach her with this?
> Be polite to her.
> Give her a piece of your mind.
> Just tell her what you want.
>>44830533
Flirt with her. Maybe she's impressed by our new promotion. We might score.
>>44830533
>Give her a piece of your mind.
>>44830562
Uhm, anon, she's our boss. We're trying to convince her TO promote us. I know reading comprehension is tricky, but that was obvious from the text.
>get invited to play a dnd game
>want make a combat focused character
>find out that the DM based his campaign on undertale
>mfw pacifism is encouraged
anyone ever have moments like this?
>>44830294
Play it to the absurd. Make your character as distrustful, paranoid, and belligerent as possible to add some spice to your party's interactions. If your DM is worth his salt, he'll play off that for comic and maybe even dramatic effect.
Yep.
Didnt care.
I played a 7th level, 8 charisma Orc Barbarian named Krug, in the GM's political shenanigans and peacecraft campaign.
My Orc just kept insinuating everyone was weak and that peace was for losers who cant win; that our Country is losing the war because we're weak and pathetic, and letting the southern countries take our people, our farms, our money, our people. He just kept basically calling everyone shit eating, nancy losers, and accepting every duel coming his way, and challenging everyone to a duel; maxing intimidate, horrifically.
It was not what my GM wanted.
He wanted a 'cooperation and rebuilding' era, while my character just wanted to plunge the world into a violent era where men are men, and the strong take what they wanted.
>>44830408
This. It'd be boring if everyone was trusting of everything, honestly.
>Lethality is higher than average for this quest, and will immediately end the game. No do-overs.
>I will roll when a roll is appropriate, to prevent ship-jumping over dice.
Your name is Vespillo Atius, and you, a young farmer captured in war by a cruel Amuliuan Empire, have come here to die to the sound of a roaring crowd.
Some luck, huh?
You're in a rank, dark room, sitting on a stone bench placed to the wall. There are 31 other men in this makeshift 'jail' stuck in the same situation as you, and they all smell like piss.
The arena's holding area tends to hold that scent. It also empties quickly.
A boy is in in the cell to your left, relatively short and a bit thin. He sits quietly with his eyes closed.
The one to your right is an old, fat man shaking the bars and begging to be released. Everyone seems to be trying to ignore him.
"'Ey, Chuckles, heads up!" one of the self-righteous guards chucks a finished apple at you from behind his side of the iron bars.
The core takes a tumble and lands at your feet, completely missing its intended mark. You raise an eyebrow sadonically.
"You were supposed to catch it. After all, you lot haven't got a lot of time to train. Just doing you a favor."
He laughs and moves on.
But perhaps your reflexes are better than he gives you credit for. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
>Pick an 'I'm... but' combination that doesn't contradict itself, or take the 'all-arounder' skillset.
>I'm tougher than usual (better Vigor, you can take stronger hits and more of them)
>I'm swifter than usual (better Speed, you're harder to hit and are more likely to attack first)
>I'm stronger than usual (better Power, you can use heavier weapons and deliver stronger blows, as well as grapple more easily)
>I'm cleverer than usual (better Skill, you're better at hitting others and can use better weapons)
>...but I'm not as tough.

Min-Max edition! Storytellers, do you dislike when your players minmax? Players do you minmax?
I just had my first player to not min-max in some regard hand me his sheet. I'm so excited for this game /tg/.
Reminder that morke and holden are liars
>do you dislike when your players minmax?
Trying to be better at what you do is a perfectly rational aspiration. The greatest invention of mankind, from spaceflight to the Internet is built on this yearning. Min-maxing is not only ok, but I respect deeply people who do it.

>Players do you minmax?
One of the first things I heard about the game is that you just gotta do it. And I have been, but I honestly out my character together in a hurry and made some dumb choices, so I think it really balances out.
