Hey tee-gee. I need help making th e most broken character possible. My DM has challenged the party into making the most ridiculous party ever, because he is trying to kill us from the get go. He said we will be fifth level characters, and can be anything as long as it is related to 4th edition.

>most ridiculous party ever,
>4e

He's already done all the work for you dude. Just pick something at random from the PHB and you're done.
>>
In 4e there is a race that is a vampire, a class that is a vampire, and a vampire template.
So you could be a Vampire Vampire Vampire.

Now, you couldn't get here by 5th level, but you could also be a Revenant with the Vryloka (vampire blooded human) past life, Dhampyr Bloodline Feat, Vampire class, the Avenging Haunt Paragon Path, and the Archlich epic destiny, making you an undead four times vampire ghost lich.

You are Vaius Taro a regular rank and file chaos space marine for the Black Legion. You were once simply content with killing the forces of the Imperium for the Dark Gods. Now you wish to rid Abbadon of his position and lead Chaos to glory. You are aboard a chaos lord named Kath's ship: The Scourge. What do you want to do?

(Rolls are 1d100, which ever roll is highest will be used. Rolls that are 66,77,88, or 99 will be 'blessed' by one of the Chaos Gods and the effect is enhanced. And before you ask, yes this is based on Abbadon Quest)

Upon realizing you have nothing left to live for, you put your bolter to your head and pull the trigger. However as fate would have it. You did not die.

Instead you are granted a mutation by the gods, you now have a pair of flaming horns growing from the temples your your head like a bull.

What are the most common ways to start off a D&D campaign?
I'm not looking for the most creative or original ways to introduce the party during the first session, I'm just looking for the most typical.

>Tavern
Starting off in a tavern is the classic. There may be a tavern brawl involved, or a cloaked figure in a darkened corner waiting to dispense quests or rumors.

>Prison
The party starts meets in a prison cell. They may start out with all their equipment confiscated.

>Dungeon Entrance
The party simply starts out at the entrance of a dungeon and goes right in. Simple. Direct.

Anything to add?

This.

Except, on the run from provincial authorities.

1. There's already an antagonistic group in play.
2. Stealth and vigilance are mandatory.
3. The importance of the immediate objective is self-evident.
4. Jolly Co-op is devoutly to be encouraged.

Nowhere else to go, destination can be literally anywhere, lots of potential for random encounters, lots of time to get to know each other, good chance to introduce NPCs

They don't. If the do, they risk getting lost in the collective unconsciousness or getting their spirits devoured by the Dreaming Lords.

Post traumatic ones. I can't imagine the level of devotion, greed or desperation it would take to send a mortal dungeon delving. And your going to do it with swords, spears and bows. Fuck that.

Why has GW focused on the Crimson slaughter as opposed to the multiple Traitor legions that have not been fleshed out at all? Do they think no one gives a shit? And why Crimson Slaughter, did they pull a rando warband name out of a hat? Its not even the most interesting warband to ever be mentioned(that would be 'The Cleaved), so I'm just trying to wrap my head around it...

I don't dislike the slaughter, they just don't seem like they should be... focused on over the legions

Word is that Dark Vengeance was originally supposed to feature Black Legion but the color contrast with Dark Angels didn't sit well with the design studio so they settled with Crimson Slaughter.
I don't mind them (though I don't like GW's recent writing with their lack of literary or historical allusions) or GW's choice to not go with a legion, but I don't like how they didn't at least pick Red Corsairs.
>>
They have been trying to take the focus from the oringals for years. Thats why they took the rules for them out of the codex in 4th ed. At least the CS are interesting.

I received my Kickstarter edition recently, not gotten a chance to play it yet. Hoping I can break it out some time soon though. The concept is so wonderfully ludicrous. I have friends who all love YGO Abridged and shit, so they'll likely really get into it.

I'm also really looking forward to the Set Rotation expansion, with the co-op rules and the roleplaying expansion book. Because RPing ridiculous over the top card game universe drama and shenanigans should be fucking hilarious.

Help me /tg/, I'm not quite sure what to do about this.

I'm currently in an online campaign that until now had been really fun! Another player and I joined in the middle of a currently running game, so the GM encouraged us to have our characters know each other. Naturally I has no issue with it and the other player (let's call him X) was pretty enthusiastic about it as well. In the end, I ended up making a naive but optimistic noble with a bit of an arrogant side out to prove their capability and he played my cynical assistant. And again, the campaign was really fun for the first few sessions. Our players met the rest of the party and had some wonderful roleplay scenes while the DM kept things lively with some vivid scene setting and fun NPCs.

Then came the bathhouse scene.

It started out fairly innocent. My character acting all haughty and flustered at having to strip down and share bathwater with dirty peasants while the others were confused and amused by my delicate sensibilities.

Then X rolled to steal my underwear. And the GM allowed since he thought it might lead to "interesting interpersonal dilemmas" or something.

Then we found out X was not only writing really weird genderbent gay romance porn about my PC shipped with another player's, but he made it something his character would do so he had a chance to share it with us.

The GM not only allowed this, but he gave X gold and EXP for "dedicating himself to the roleplaying" and encouraged us to be more like him.

Needless to say, I'm a little uncomfortable by all this even though the rest of the campaign is really good. What should I do?

ADVENTURERS!! Help out a DM strained for ideas. I'm running a Pathfinder campaign right now, and one of my players "befriended" a succubus NPC. Problem is, he gave her the "I think we should see other people" line when she revealed she was in league with a bigger demon whose goals run counter to theirs. She offered the player demonic powers in exchange of course, but he spurned her advances and literally punted her out of a window with a giant hammer.

That's not the last he is going to see of her. Oh no. She's got a long history of messing with heads and turning heroes into despondent wrecks. In the real world, we have legends of Succubi who sit on the chests of men who have just awoke to find that they are paralyzed (easily attributed to sleep paralysis), and who suffer nightmares of having their... fluids stolen during the night. I want the former to happen, and the latter to be implied. I've cleared that the player is comfortable with this level of depravity.

My issue is how to make it happen. He's playing an alchemist, so he is immune to poisons (the succubus' preferred weapon). Is there some kind of curse or spell that can paralyze someone and lasts at least long enough for the succubus to deliver a spiteful speech before teleporting away with a piece of his gear? (Specifically his injector, which she will be using to steal his juices to make some evil half-human homunculi of the player who will come after him, groaning "Father...!")

orcs, wizards, sword n board, medieval setting, these were the starting points and the stable of the rpg genre. However, considering D&D was mostly brought forth by a couple of white dudes with a biased toward european influences, I wonder if the genre has not went beyond its usual stables due to both comfortability and lack of creativity. For instance, the Japanese took the formula of D&D derivatives like waizardy and have followed this formula ever since. A strategic battle centric system with a party likely set in a european like setting. And if not european, it houses the same stables of sword and magic classes, but in a different time. Instance, using a sword despite guns being largely superior. Or games like xenosaga and xenogears.

My question mainly is: can this system go any differently? Is it even possible? Or we stuck to the concepts of classes, sword and magic, objective decision systems? D20, rifts, and many other rp games exist, but they also stem from one place. Basically, if D&D was never made, how different would history be? And would something entirely different would have come instead?

>>
>>47169715
D&D was largely based of wargames and stuf that already existed. Someone would of done something similar sooner or later.
>>
>>47170276
Makes me curious what that something would have been. If it would have even been the same circle of traits.
>>
I agree with >>47170276, but depending on what they do the changes would have quite an effect on video games and subsequent tabletop games. I'm more of a vidya guy, so if someone were to even do a different magic system as opposed to the standard "spells per day" the balance of said games and similar titles in vidya. And let's say that things weren't based off European fantasy, then something more prominent would take it's place obviously.

The thing is really that if someone did a different D&D thing, then everything afterwards would be impacted since there was nothing quite like it, and early computer rpgs were based off of D&D as we see it today.

Guys I have a dilemma.

Me and a group of my buddies are gearing up to play a new campaign soon. I'm gonna be DM. No problems there.

The big problem comes I when a buddy moving in from out of state is planning on joining too. He's kind of "that guy" but that's exactly not the bad part. The bad part is he's recently married to a sweet but incredibly dumb girl and she wants to play as well.

I have no experience playing with a couple at the table. I have a really bad feeling about this. Is that warranted? How do I proceed?

Do you have any experience with couples in games?

Only as a player, but it was never really a problem. The characters weren't related and didn't pursue romantic ties with anything, which is usually where things get weird.
