/BGG/ Board Game General - Still some TI4 hype edition

Previous thread:
>>54819371

Who here owns TI3 and will buy TI4? Anyone who never played TI3 but plans to buy TI4 to finally get in on the whole thing?

If TI is the king of ameritrash, what's the king of eurogames?

What other 2017 release are you looking forward to?

Me too. Never had the chance to play TI3, but the hype is getting me. I was somewhat interested in it before the announcement, a new edition will likely be the tipping point

worst OP ever

A common thing in nearly any fantasy type of setting, bet it a low or high fantasy, is often hitting on the barmaids, tavern waitresses/waiters, and or bar wenches.

>be in a tavern
>holler the inn keep for some food and refreshments
>tavern maid comes in to give your order
>either you or your party members/associates decide to hit on her or grope her
>and possibly either you or the party member(s) ask the tavern maid to "accompany" you/them to the inn room so you/they wouldn't "feel lonely" tonight

What exactly is the thing behind this other than getting some pussy or other pervy things? Plus would you really try hitting on a tavern maid and even ask her/him to accompany you to your room and fuck her/him for tonight? And what even motivates said tavern maids/wenches to such thing anyways?
230 posts and 41 images submitted.
>>
>>54852027
It's part of the fantasy aesthetic. Probably from Conan, if not older.

What motivates them is that adventurers are rich and powerful and generally buff, good-looking people looking for a night of fun, and women like getting laid, too.
>>
>>54852027

Most tavern maids moonlight as prostitutes, because they make more money that way. It's like the girls in an casino, they'll sleep with you for enough money. Being a tavern-wench isn't very profitable.

Let's be frank: Adventurers are basically rock stars, and throw around vast amounts of money. If someone gives a tavern wench 50GP, that's more than a year's income.

Basically this, even if players are bunch of awkward nerds, their characters are the turbochads Or at least should be. Many socially inept nerds make the characters their self inserts but """"better"""" which usually means more powerful yet still as awkward, creepy and cringy as IRL[/spoilers] so it doesn't take much to make a simpleton backwater wvillage girl spread her legs for them.

, being kept up this week because we're in the dead center of the big Gen Con push from FFG and getting new news every week day it seems like.

Latest thing is they snuck the Scorpion fiction out early by hiding it behind a Unicorn Clan article link:

https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/55/13/5513e628-0128-4a37-8408-8e19a18fa6a1/the_world_a_stage.pdf

What's the story choice they're dangling for us at Gen Con this year? https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/8/10/smokeless-fire/

What is L5R, for people just seeing this thread? Legend of the Five Rings is an LCG, RPG and old CCG focusing on intrigues and wars of fantasy samurai clans in Rokugan. It used to be published by AEG and was bought a few years back by Fantasy Flight Games, whose new edition of the card game is very close to release. It is an RPG with years of products and four editions behind it.

This thread is for discussion of LCG news, the RPG of any edition, or even the old CCG if you're a fan.

So how is FFG working with the fluff? Are they reseting everything? Are they gonna follow the same paths? I know they changed the gender of the Crane Champion, which is a shame cause the old crane champion seemed really cool as a more androginous badass. (Sort of like Fulgrim).

Reset and alterations. Some clan champs are different, some aren't, new characters and old. We don't know where the story is going to go but I think the Second Day of Thunder is a fair bet to see eventually.

> seemed really cool as a more androginous badass

Hoturi was a ladies man who basically existed to party and fuck. He was only androgynous in that he wasn't bearded or tankly. Hotaru's not being a party girl with a string of broken men behind her is a bigger divergence than her gender swap. Also she seems younger.
>>
>>54845338
They're definitely changing some things aside from genderbending. The coup might not go down the same way.

A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or people's homebrew wargames. /hwg/ doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to very specific games, so this thread isn't tied to a game, or a genre, lets talk about fun wargames.

Any scale, any genre, any company, any minis. Skirmishers welcome. Rules designers welcome.

That depends enormously on setting; especially how often Vampires need to feed, whether or not they can feed on non-humans (or non-sapient creatures in general), and how deadly feeding is to the victim.

This.
With no given information a proper inference on the feeding needs of a vampire cannot be made.

What does /tg/ think of Magical Knights?

and

What do we officially call them?
78 posts and 26 images submitted.
>>
I think they're cool. There are a lot of different ways to make one.
You could have him be a normal knight with magic armor or weapons. These weapons could enable him to cast spells if you want him to be a spellcaster.
You could have him be a knight who knows spells and things like that and uses these as a part of his fighting style.

I think most of the time we call them spell blades. D&D 5E PHB call them eldritch knights, but I'm not really a fan of that name - even though it could be used in certain settings.
In some settings you could call them paladins - if magic and divine feats are interchangeable.
I like the idea of calling them "Rune Knights", but those would be the kind of warriors who use enchanted weapons.

>There should be only one definition for any fantasy creature
>it's okay to call feathered lizardmen "elves"

Which camp are you in?
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I guess the first one. You aren't really impressing me by calling your mushroom monsters elves, and it's not like you couldn't just pick a name that would actually help players to understand what they're dealing with
>>
It's less "there is only one definition" and more...I dislike laziness. And there's a lot of laziness in this debate. Firstly there's, yes, the "Its a fungus spore monster from the moon called an elf", which like...if you've come up with a new thing, call it a new thing. Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean it has to have all the generic names. I even apply this to old things in new settings. Dinosaur riding hobbits and pirate dwarves are not hobbits and dwarves. Fantasy races are defined by their fictional context, and if you're gonna change them enough to take them entirely out of their context, change them a bit more and give them a new name. This cuts the other way too. If you say "My setting doesn't have any elves!" then you can't also say "But it does have pointy eared long lived magic guys who live in the woods and dislike outsiders. But they're called Onglar, totally different"
>>
Between those two: camp 1.

But I'd still give a creator some leeway when it comes to naming things.

You can have tolkien elves, tiny forest fairy elves, spooky spirit elves, child eating elves, etc.

But going "My elves look like squidmonsters from space" is dumb.

WFRP.jpg

So I have recently finished running a long WFRP 2e campaign on the advice of /tg/ when I asked for a good low fantasy system and I am sorely disappointed. I had expected a gritty low fantasy system with lethal and fast combat. What I got was a clunky system in which combat dragged on due to everyone missing most of the time and damage being reduced by reduction to the extent that hardly ever is anything killed in one blow. Add to that the fact that while I love the career system, it led to players killing off or retiring their characters as soon as anything bad happened to them (madness, disease or loss of limbs) so that they could roll up a more optimized character to play on with and the fact that it became increasingly more difficult to challenge them with realistic threats (town guard, orcs etc.) as they increased in experience and I found it nigh impossible to run a coherent campaign.

What are better low fantasy systems that you might recommend that I might use? I have heard GURPS or Runequest 6 my might work. How might I avoid running into similar problems in them as I did in WFRP?

Rules are good and the minis are great, but Spartan sucks and refuses to support their games. Best case scenario they breach contract, get bought out my MS, and used as slave labor to produce the game. Most likely scenario they breach contract and get sued into nonexistence by MS, and the game stops being a thing.

He spends a good half of his uptime working, running an organization of this size is fucking hard. He only gets about three hours a day totally free, but even then there's a lot to occupy his attention.

When he is free, usually after work, he likes to soak in a bath and crack open a book. His career is so fast paced and loud, it's nice to just be alone and stretch out in the tub. If he doesn't feel like reading, he works on models. He's got a large collection of various skeletal remains, which he likes to excavate and reassemble piece by piece. He hopes he doesn't have to get them dirty by bringing them to life one day.

On his rare days off, he dresses down to blend in with the people. He still looks regal, because he isn't a peasant, but most people will only assume he's a noble. When he does go out, he usually invites his daughter or a friend. They might catch a show, have a picnic, or just camp out in the wilderness. Very rarely he goes out drinking, but when he does things usually get pretty crazy. He's had to hide more than a few bodies.
>>
>>54883750

He basically murdered hundreds of corrupt politicians, but he had to kill a couple dozen civilians to do so.

He adopted the little girl of one of his accidental victims but lied to her and told her that he was a friend of her rents.

He's not evil, but he is power hungry. He want's to resurrect a demi-titan so he can controll him and open portals to other worlds and use those planets as magical batteries for a Giga Portal to the Astral Sea, To eat THAT magic, to become god, to kill a God who betrayed him. He's a good guy, but he's a little too power hungry. My players will have to choose to side with him or against him. Or with or against a resistance group of his former party members.
>>
>>54883750
Nothing. He's not even a part of the campaign and if he ever showed up it would be a complete TPK. He has human qualities, but understands that because of what he is the social engineering required would be an immense undertaking that he wants no part in, and leaves it to his offspring and creations to shape the world as he pleases or at least implies on a whim in the event that he actually does, if ever, rarely go outside.

He's something a hobby of gaining power at any cost, because he simply gathers power for powers sake as he believes in a philosophy of 'physicality' in which he places value over the like of Extraordinary abilities, supernatural abilities and Spell-like abilities opposed to other means to power because he doesn't like to rely on others namely because he can't place any trust in them as he has a massive erroneous streak when it comes to social communication so he avoids direct contact at all costs.

His goal is to effectively become the anti-deity AKA, the absence of their kind entirely, and he's about 75% of the way there, possessing the means to grant the rudimentary Demon Lord issued clerical domains to people, Warlockery, and is in the business of using divination and various spells to foster Necromancers that head to demilichdom with fair ease who he binds to his service to serve as tools that can distribute the Black Rain, a nasty weather effect that fucks divine spellcasting up the ass. As their essential 'opposite' He greatly detests a reliance on magic as anything but a means to an end that is fundamentally cheating the rules of innovation and progress using it to what it is best for- Cheating, which is why he is so fundamentally powerful.

His current goals involve the creation of a Negative Energy Elemental, (Ravenloft's Death) to control, means to other divine domain, enhancement of his already potent innate abilities, and the eradication of spellcasters that hold the world in 'status quo'.
