How are you humanizing your BBEG?

He spends a good half of his uptime working, running an organization of this size is fucking hard. He only gets about three hours a day totally free, but even then there's a lot to occupy his attention.

When he is free, usually after work, he likes to soak in a bath and crack open a book. His career is so fast paced and loud, it's nice to just be alone and stretch out in the tub. If he doesn't feel like reading, he works on models. He's got a large collection of various skeletal remains, which he likes to excavate and reassemble piece by piece. He hopes he doesn't have to get them dirty by bringing them to life one day.

On his rare days off, he dresses down to blend in with the people. He still looks regal, because he isn't a peasant, but most people will only assume he's a noble. When he does go out, he usually invites his daughter or a friend. They might catch a show, have a picnic, or just camp out in the wilderness. Very rarely he goes out drinking, but when he does things usually get pretty crazy. He's had to hide more than a few bodies.

He basically murdered hundreds of corrupt politicians, but he had to kill a couple dozen civilians to do so.

He adopted the little girl of one of his accidental victims but lied to her and told her that he was a friend of her rents.

He's not evil, but he is power hungry. He want's to resurrect a demi-titan so he can controll him and open portals to other worlds and use those planets as magical batteries for a Giga Portal to the Astral Sea, To eat THAT magic, to become god, to kill a God who betrayed him. He's a good guy, but he's a little too power hungry. My players will have to choose to side with him or against him. Or with or against a resistance group of his former party members.

Nothing. He's not even a part of the campaign and if he ever showed up it would be a complete TPK. He has human qualities, but understands that because of what he is the social engineering required would be an immense undertaking that he wants no part in, and leaves it to his offspring and creations to shape the world as he pleases or at least implies on a whim in the event that he actually does, if ever, rarely go outside.

He's something a hobby of gaining power at any cost, because he simply gathers power for powers sake as he believes in a philosophy of 'physicality' in which he places value over the like of Extraordinary abilities, supernatural abilities and Spell-like abilities opposed to other means to power because he doesn't like to rely on others namely because he can't place any trust in them as he has a massive erroneous streak when it comes to social communication so he avoids direct contact at all costs.

His goal is to effectively become the anti-deity AKA, the absence of their kind entirely, and he's about 75% of the way there, possessing the means to grant the rudimentary Demon Lord issued clerical domains to people, Warlockery, and is in the business of using divination and various spells to foster Necromancers that head to demilichdom with fair ease who he binds to his service to serve as tools that can distribute the Black Rain, a nasty weather effect that fucks divine spellcasting up the ass. As their essential 'opposite' He greatly detests a reliance on magic as anything but a means to an end that is fundamentally cheating the rules of innovation and progress using it to what it is best for- Cheating, which is why he is so fundamentally powerful.

His current goals involve the creation of a Negative Energy Elemental, (Ravenloft's Death) to control, means to other divine domain, enhancement of his already potent innate abilities, and the eradication of spellcasters that hold the world in 'status quo'.

He was just a frighteningly smart alien nobleman who enjoyed good food, was engaged to a pretty girl* and had a nice arrangement with a human mafioso to gamble in his casino and watch bloodsports. Unfortunately the space cops raided the casino, and his fun ended.

Then he realised his military career wasn't going anywhere under a government eager for consolidating power rather than rapid expansion, so he killed the Emperor, became Emperor himself and did much the same things except now he fucking hates humans, especially the space cops, so he requisitioned the largest warship his empire had ever built, assembled a fleet and declared war on Earth.

His warship has a luxurious Imperial Suite, where his waifu lives in comfort and he holds vast banquets and balls for his staff while the fleet makes the several month journey to Earth.

Whatever he has time for.

Lunch with the girlfriend, helping his younger siblings study, going to a movie with friends, that kind of thing. The occasional bit of charity work. He rarely gets any "free time", as most of his personal time is spent studying magic and expanding the frontiers of necromancy.

He's basically steve jobs by way of nagash, so the dude stays busy.

He spends what spare time he has cooking, because he enjoys it as a hobby. When he meets with his lieutenants in the classic banquet hall scene, the meal is often one, or includes some dishes, that he has cooked or supervised the cooking of personally.

No bbeg but natural cataclysm. Sentient and sapient, but still alien to all living races. Think of storm itself, combined with volcano and earthquake. Whenever it exists ground crumbles, nature withers, sky burns and water rages.

It doesn't think in categories of good and evil. It exists.

It doesn't even speak language of any race in the world.

It is nott even interested in them. It feeds on ley lines, and is looking for a way to permanently tap into the whole network.

He's raising undead and slaughtering millions to provide a society with every material need, allowing them to focus on art, philosophy, and making babies to fuel the undead war machine with anyone over the age of 30. They need more resources because their population is outpacing food production and the population of undead grows with three decades of lag after theirs does.

He writes music, because he was selected from the work-free culture he's massacring people to preserve and extend. He has his undead minions perform ballet to music played by his generals. He holds concerts with his generals, to an audience of skeletons. The sound of the polite skeletal applause can echo for miles.
He's very well-read, versed in philosophy, plays multiple instruments, speaks multiple languages, and can recite great works of poetry verbatim.
He holds skeleton ballets for his own amusement, and to challenge his living underlings in their control of the skeletons.
He inspects captured territories and uses his knowledge of engineering to make them more efficient. For example, he invented opencast mining due to having a labour force that can be worked 24/7. He has stripped entire mountains down to sea level to chase the iron ore veins that have equipped his army.
He seeks out and slays large creatures to use them for his army.
He inspects prisoners for any worthy of sending back to his home country for use as breeding stock.
Most of the actual hard work is delegated to an army of administrative underlings, so he's free to follow his passion of making wholesale slaughter more efficient.
He'd have invented the steam engine if he needed to, but skeletons can mine just as well underwater as not.

For the not-villain of the book I'm writing this year, he's humanised by his love of tinkering.
Yes, he's a 7' tall, 1/4 tonne power-armoured super soldier, but he's also prone to Mad Engineering, which is like Mad Science, only dirtier and with more mechanics.
He also has a family of sorts he's adopted over the years, enjoys spending time with them, and is making plans for having children.
He collects prototype weapons and their patents, other escaped/rogue super-soldiers, bought a country to make himself prince of so he could get a seat at the UN (and make his daughters princesses), and is an international arms dealer capable of meeting contracts for medium-size countries, and takes on custom projects at very slim margins just for the challenge.
He's not a villain, but he's not a good guy either. Nor is he an antihero or an anti-villain. He has no sense of right and wrong, so he simply IS and tries to remember to run his plans past people with a conscience before setting them into motion because he's really not a villain.
He's very adamant that he's not a villain, despite having a lair and an empire and his own country.
He has problems convincing adventurers of that when they break into his lair, or attack him in the streets.

Well, he does run a nation at war, so that takes up a lot of his time.

Most of the rest, he's either studying history, or trying to make the home situation more liveable, as he assumed the identity of the last BBEG and went as far to marry the guy's widow; she is not particularly happy about this development.
