I haven't played an MMO in years but I've never seen an actual RP server work in the way you would think. I had a friend that played ever quest that claimed there was a dude that was litteraly a farmer or some shit and just hung out on some farm doing farmer shit though. I own secret world anything neat go on on there nowadays heard it just went FTP.

I find that MMOs are a shitty venue for RP due to the inability of your character to meaningfully affect the word, and also because everyone in the world has the same basic storyline to their deeds.

Trying too hard to avoid certain tropes or cliches, making a show of how you're specifically not doing this or that because it's stupid, or otherwise focusing too much on subverting what you think doesn't work and not enough on figuring out what does work.
Being aware of the conventional and thinking past it is good, but subversion and conspicuous avoidance are themselves long-used tropes at this point. A story can't rely on self-awareness alone; it has to be good enough to stand on its own merits.

he would need something to draw energy from his surroundings, some kind of storage capacitor, and various gubbins to convey that this person sucks energy then released it
I would imagine wires snaking around him to connect all his gear, goggles for feedback, and sensors to manage power input and output
he could also wear an obvious power source for storing energy for later

Hello /tg/, I've been playing wanting to get into the war gaming community for such a long time. I love the models, lore, games, but I can' decide on what to play. To make this short. Here is what I'm looking for from most important to least.
> Cheap
Okay, I know war gaming isn't cheap, but what I mean by cheap is "not GW prices". I don't mind spending $100+ for a starter set or a big army, but what I do mind is having to pay $50 dollars for 5 units that are basically just infantry.
>Easy
Once again, I know that wargames can be hard to get into.I'm okay with a decently complex rule set, but I'd prefer simpler. I really like Age of Sigmar's 4 page rule book. It makes it super easy to start, and play your way through. this is mostly so when I try to get people to play with me, they don't run in fear (looking at you 7th edition 40k).
> Lore
Lore is something I take to heart. I love reading books, I love learning about the history of the world, and it really feels like the world is a real thing. I don't need 15 issue novels, but I do want a fairly fleshed out world.
> Room to grow
Adding on to the lore, I want to be able to make my army unique with my own lore in the world, and my own characters.
>Setting
My favorite kinds of settings are sci-fi and fantasy. Even things like Malifaux's steampunk-fantasy is fine. This is mostly just put here, so that I won't get any WWII or modern day games.
> Portrayal of women
I know, I know. This is a weird thing to put in, but I really mean it. I don't mind scantily clad women as long as it's purposeful. Once again looking at Warhammer; Slaanesh is a perfect example. Her whole shtick is sex, drugs, and rock n roll. I cringe when I see games where a female knight has essentially just a set of metal bra and panties. Even though this is last on the list, it's still an important thing to add on.

Infinity. Sci-Fi setting. Comparatively cheaper that Warhammer. Lore is supposed to be interesting. That said you may not like it's portrayal of women, it's rules are somewhat complex, and you can't really make your own unique stuff.
Warhammer. Has room to grow. Has lore. Has a good setting. New rules are really easy. The portrayal of women is generally reasonable. But it's expensive.
You don't even want to think about Warmahordes. Trust me.
There are some historicals which are pretty cool depending on what you want.

Hi, /tg/ I'm a relatively new GM. I've been playing Magical Burst, Powered By The Apocalypse games (Dungeon World, The Sprawl), 5e D & D, Mutants & Masterminds, and most recently FantasyCraft. I feel like at this point I have a pretty decent idea of how the flow of a pnp game works and really the most fun I've had was in a short lived 5e campaign in an original setting. I think it wasn't 5e I really liked but that what I enjoyed most was playing with design and seeing reactions from players. The game died because of internal drama and worries about railroading/metagaming on my end from a couple who was playing in the game. I'm sure I wasn't doing perfectly because it was my first time and in the future I'd like to better and keep things feeling fair. What makes a really good GM? How do I make sure players know I'm making decisions based on the fiction rather than metagame "geek the mage" choices? What do you wish you knew about GMing 5 years ago?

The first and most important thing is to realize the tone you want for the game, let the players know, then apply that tone.
If you are running a hardbitten tone, the world and it's reactions to the players ought to reflect such.
Another needed skill is being able to work with the players seamlessly, to take their actions and react to them smoothly.
