My DM just railroaded us into something in a really annoying way. Make me appreciate him by showing me how much worse it could be.
he could be really really fucking vague.
My own tale

Anyway that's where we are now, off to judgment. We'll see what happens next. It's not that horrible but it felt very railroady the way he did it. It feels like he put us in a tough situation, either let the lizard die or fight.

Keep elbows on the table. Rest one hand (wrist) on the other (or something stable). If nothing helps - consider switching to necrons in the future (where you can just spray-base-drybrush)

I've tried to find good game design theory/blogs, but it's all GNS-type crap. I don't want to look at "what kinds of players like what" crap. I want perverse incentives, balance, tactical decision-making; discussions of things like death spirals, action economy, rocket tag, quantum bears, etc.
Basically, more nitty gritty stuff than vague theories on "player types" that don't seem to actually relate to anything. It only seems to come up when directly criticizing particular RPGs, but I'm hoping someone has actually written/done some stuff that covers these as general topics.

Mecha vs Kaiju either the Fate Core or d20 version (preferably the Fate one), can easily be adapted so the players are Kaiju instead of mecha pilots fighting Kaiju.

What sort of game are you running?
My Alternity GMs are currenly running a fairly open space pirate campaign in the Star*Drive universe, and post-apocalyptic survival game in a homebrewed setting similar to Gamma World or Fallout.
I'm thinking of rejiggering it for a fantasy setting. I don't feel like running a sci-fi game, but the dice mechanics and focus on skills really work for me.

I played the Dark Matter one shot with my cousins back in the day. It was published in some magazine and completely unbalanced high- lethality fun. You had to fight water moccasin men in the ever glades. Good times.
We did the StarCraft Alternate modules. The rules were a bit if a mess but that could because it was a standalone licensed product instead of a full system book.

Your Character dying may be a good thing, because you may succeed in getting them into Valhalla. If you get characters into Valhalla you unlock new character creation options. Eventually you can play as an Einherjar or Son of Muspell and bring back your dead characters that you loved as quasi-divine beings.

I like elves who are tolkienesque as much as I like ones who are radically different, but what I really want are elves who feel organic to the setting that they're in. If the setting is a celebratory high-fantasy love letter and it has ye magical elves at one with nature who are wizards and overly proud, good. That's the sort of elves you'd expect from a setting like that. If you've got a dark and edgy setting like Dragon Age, elves who either live in ghettos or out in the woods and who have lost most of their former glory and can't even remember their own language are good too.
Not sucking the game off here, because the game sucks, but SoS's setting does this really well. The elves are a racial group, they're integrated into the political and cultural landscape of the setting. The fact that you've got X Elves and Y Elves and Z Elves is actually a serious lore point with heavy implications, and while they all look like something out of very generic fantasy, like everything else in the setting each type is actually a very serious conceptual rewrite of the archtype they represent to make them fit into the spirit of the game. They have cultures and subcultures and ethnic groups just like humans do, each in keeping with the overall theme of the race.
That's cool. That's what I want. I want to be able to remove everything ELSE from a setting and still have the elves be cool. If you were to write a story in a setting JUST about the elves, could they carry that story? Or are they just a piece of setting dressing there because they were expected to be there?

Here's the photo we've used as the exterior basis for the thread. I noticed that the open-air shop on the left is actually on the second floor, and perhaps on top of another shop. Since the Chinese Takeout doesn't need that much space and is canonically on the first floor, is this an open-air bar on top of the bodega or video store?
