>online PF campaign
>DM watched and approved our character sheets.
>I play half-orc sorcerer, other players are Dwarf paladin, Human wizard and another sorcerer, Kitsune.
>"you all start at the town square, overlooking the burning of Kitsune sorcerer at the stake..."
>kicks Kitsune player

The game lasted for two incredibly awkward sessions afterwards. To this day i'm not sure why our DM even approved of that character if he was going to kill him anyway.

Fuck yeah it was OK. Someone buy this GM a pizza with beer and pretzels, he earned it.

Anon, this is MY post from a goddamn day-old thread.

Please stop using my posts for your weeb shitposting.

Or, i dunno, have some decency to wait before you shitpost.

t. half-orc sorcerer.
>>
The GM was a faggot and it's a good idea if you bail now.

This isn't because he banned the kitsune. It's his game, and he's welcome to say "I don't want this in the game." It's the fact that rather than be mature, and tell the player that he should roll something else, he went low and petty to make rocks fall and then boot the player.

You do not want petty, vindictive shits for GMs. And you're seeing it now with the sessions being awkward. Because you know that if you upset the GM, he's willing to just axe your character and kick you out.

Would a wolf-person kingdom work well if the wolf-people treated the nation as a "superpack" with many component packs?

Depends whether they are WOLF-people or wolf-PEOPLE.
>>
>>50290574
>>50290587
Welp, the cancer sure has gotten rather efficient.
Wolf people have been a long standing part of both scifi and fantasy games and books. Your deep seated insecurity about anything animal people related is noted though. The other anons severe autism about not understanding the unwritten board rules, like that worldbuilding is a major component of the threads here and has been since its inception is too be expected on a newfag. They also don't need explicit specific words that specify its for a game as its implied in the question in OPs post.

>>50290569
Wolf packs are literally just family units. The upgrade from that socially is packs within packs, which then just adds a new layer of pack the more complex the social structure. Eventually you hit humans which have multiple packs they belong to at once which sit within super packs, which sit within even more super packs.

Now this is a gross simplification of a much more complex thing but it gets across the general idea. In addition that whole alpha wolf shit is deeply outdated science that even its creator has retracted as wrong due to further research on his part.

So basically they would just act like humans when it came to nation states and such. They would have their pack of friends, their family pack, their work pack, their city super pack, their nation mega pack, and wolf people themselves as some form of ultra pack. There is are good reason we domesticated dogs from wolves and one is that our social structures are very similar.
>>
>>50290569
>Superpacks
Wolfazins united was a mistake.

In one session ut sort of became a running gag, kind of got old after the first few times though. Like no one in the party had great perception or scrying abilities, so after we got fooled the first time the GM ran with it

>Find a jungle dwelling tribe of "elves"
>Just a tribe of unusually fair skinned humans that cut their ears as an initiation ritual (like scarification in other cultures)

>Find demon looking guys
>They are just people who after generations of living in a cave under strange toxic magic light evolved red skin and cat like pupils to see in the safe and dark types of the cave

>Find "orcs"
Just a nomadic Indian like tribe that paints themselves with green war paint made from some beetle and puts wild hog bone/tusk mouth guards in before they attack

>Find halflings
>Just a troupe of circus dwarfs that decided to found a community

>Find beast people
>Just a bunch of weeaboos who somehow came across a bunch of cosplay manga that had gotten caught up in an inter dimensional vortex during the tsunami and decided to copy it thinking it was a message from the gods

The worst part, it's not like the setting doesn't have all these guys and the GM was just filling in their role with humans, it actually does, we just "somehow" manage to find look alike everywhere we went that first campaign. Credit where credit is due though, it was kind of fun trying to figure out exactly how we were going to end up being tricked next.

Post all your interesting tales, your epic triumphs, your hilarious failures, and all the weird shit, anything worth speaking to, around the table or off it, so long as it is related to all matters /tg/.

I wish to recount to you the events of yesterday's session, one of the most spectacular battles in my roleplaying career - nowhere near as epic as all the really awesome shit seen on /tg/ (which should speak volumes of how un-memetic this hobby has been for me overall), but it was pretty cool at the time it happened, so maybe someone here gets something out of it.

>Pathfinder dungeon crawl
>The party has endured two floors of traps and monsters
>(including a slime encounter with something worth telling in itself, maybe I'll get to that after this)
>Finally approaching the final chamber
>The ranger scouts ahead, holding his dim lantern, just enough light to allow his low-light vision to see what lies within
>Suddenly he stops, freezes in terror, draws his bow
>The entire party is puzzled as he silently begins unleashing arrows into the darkness
>His bow is enchanted with lightning, so its arrows flash like brief shooting stars, giving the group terrifying glimpses into the nature of the black, the horror he is firing at, the massive twisted amalgamation of bones and grave dust
>It is moving, and with a mighty rumble, the living wall begins to approach
>But it wasn't the terror of a powerful enemy that got the ranger so scared as to shoot at it
>No, it was the dragon skull on top that angered him and made him want to wreck the shit out of the unholy grave-robbing monster
>He really loves dragons, you see
>Battle is joined, sorcerer tells the group what they're facing, the warriors charge in
>Unfortunately our paladin is absent, so the next best thing for a melee guy is our drunkass cleric... dear, oh dear
>It's not even undead - it's a construct - so turn undead is useless
>The wall approaches, the cleric's mace bounces uselessly off it, it crushes her and pulls her in, grappling her
>Arrows and bullets and lightning flies as the party tries to bring the horror down
>Practically useless - none of us have anything to truly hurt it
>>

(Pic related for the slime encounter)

>The ranger's animal companion breaks rank and charges in so that he could save the cleric
>The ranger never told him to do this - he's not even fully grown yet
>Tried to train him into a vicious berserking killer but instead, in no small part thanks to the bard, he turned into a fucking cuddlebug
>(The bard is singing his song, by the way, helping us all with rolls)
>The wall keeps its relentless approach, nearly catches on to the gunslinger and the ranger
>Neither retreat, for that would mean defeat and death
>It continues to crush those trapped within - the cleric is horribly wounded, the poor giant weasel goes from full health to -9 in a single critical hit
>Blood spurts out of the wall, the ranger's eye twitches, the rumbling of the wall and the cracking of bones is all deafened out by the bard's black metal
>Shit's really going down now, the ranged damage dealers are about to be swallowed, someone is almost certainly going to die the next round, the weasel is all but declared dead
>With her final strength, the cleric channels energy
>Only 5 points of damage healed to herself and the weasel, at least buys the latter some more time - but -only- if the living wall is destroyed now
>Yet none of the damage the party deal to it seems to stick: it is slowly healing, has defense against all their attacks, and keeps on coming in...
>Just then, a crit
>One of the ranger's arrows hits the dragon skull, splits it clean in half
>The combined attacks of the party bring the wall to precisely -2
>It collapses, spitting out the cleric and the unconscious weasel
>This was the second time the weasel was brought to negatives
>Scaredycat cuddlebug
>Fucking Percy not being here to take up the melee duties
>No one died

Then we nearly collapsed the dungeon with an Indiana Jones-esque trap, but the gunslinger had a bit of superglue to hold the pressure plate in place so that it wouldn't be triggered.

My PCs have come into a small village, harassed by a group of bandits. At night, bandits attacked PCs and after a long fight, PCs have prevailed.

Previous to this, bandits were rather nasty to villagers. They killed some people who stood up to them, have taken a few females "for fun" into their lair and have extorted pretty much everyone.

I wonder how to properly roleplay the gratitude of villagers to PCs? A Dozen apple pies at their doorstep? A celebration in their honor? I'd like to make something interesting.

thanks

I think I'd have the shopkeeper and/or innkeeper say something like
>"your moneys no good here, one o those bastards killed my son/daughter/mother"
so freebies (with in reason)

maybe a party

The real reward would come a season or two later, when they stop off at an inn and find a puppet show/play (song?)
depicting caricatures of them saving a village from a thousand bandits

ya see, the village yokel's remembered them and told the storey, each time with slightly more exaggerations. to anyone passing though who'd listen.

could even become a plot line if someone watching the play recognises them

Hello, /tg/.

I'm thinking about GMing a campaign based on the game Darkest Dungeon, but I need help making it happen. What I thought was:

>the darkest dungeon and the game has already been cleared
>the players are lvl 0 characters from the roster that didnt get to fight any battles and are now unemployed
>the battles would work almost exactly as they do in the game, with positioning and stress being very important
>the players would explore the locations and cities surrounding the darkest dungeon, clearing new dungeons themselves
>the armor/weapon/skill upgrades also work like they do in the game, as would the quirks
>XP gain would be faster since I want this to last 1~3 sessions only

I'm playing it with a few friends, online.
Would this work? What is the best system for it? Any ideas?

i just asked this a few days ago.

A lot of the advice given was basically "Find a way make non combat interesting" simple enough.

and secondly "narration is key" just like the games narrator who commented on things, be cryptic and the like.

As for system, /tg/ recommends legends of the flame princess. somebody created a home-brew for Darkest Dungeon, don't feel obligated to use this system if it doesn't suit you.

Lamentations of the flame princess, sorry.

>>50289275
and I'm gonna lurk because i would really love more tips on running it as well
>>
>the darkest dungeon and the game has already been cleared

literally why

the whole point of the atmosphere of the game is its grimness

if the DD does not exist any longer all dungeons feel less threatening since there's no darkness outside of them

my point is: have something so grim that its grimness makes everything grim

I'm getting ready to run a game that set in a frozen tundra and would like some advice. primarily on how to make challenges and death from things that aren't combat, such as starvation, frostbite, and the environment.

i want the primary antagonist to be the bitter cold that embraces them.

The players will be exiled from their land and sent to the frozen north to await the rest of their lives, here they will encounter excessively few people and very few living things. Which means i need to have story points derived not from people but from events and needs of the players.

Any advice? tips? experience?

So I'm only just getting into WH40K. Why does it seem like some characters have normal mortal human lifespans, while others can subsist for tens of thousands of years or more?

I mean I get the Adeptus Mechanicus cheat by replacing fallible mortal meat with machines. The Spess Muhreens are mutants and probably engineered to have the telomeres of naked mole rats. The Emprah is The Emprah and he's hooked up to xeno-tech.

But how about everyone else? Fluff-wise, how do people who aren't engineered from inception to be immortal power armor wielding monsters live longer than maybe 80-120 years?

And for that matter, how can characters extend their lives if they don't come from castes or classes where that's a given?

Is it possible for people who haven't been engineered or been reduced to brains in jars to subsist for more than 120 years in the Grim Future? For instance, characters in Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader. If only for fluff reasons.

Imperial nobles tend to be able to afford stuff like rejuvenation treatments, making them appear much younger than they actually are, whilst staving off the worst side effects of aging.
>>
>>50288894

First off you got your numbers wrong. Noone is "tens of thousands years old". The Emperor was born in -8000 BC but he's been definately not alive for the last 10000 years. Also he managed to achieve his great age due to hum being god-level psychic construct, not through xeno tech.

Space Marines are not mutants, they are geneticaly modified and enginiereed, alse primarch geeneseed does things to them.

With regural mortals, it is something called rejuvant tratments. Only the richest and most powerful can afford it, we're talking inquisitors, rogue traders, governors, members of Knight Houses. It's effects vary but we're talking about prelonging one's life from 30-50 years aboe human standard to some Inquisior Lords living for 300-400 years or even longer.
>>
>>50288912
>>50289110
So Normal Humies can expect, at the very most, to extend their lifespans to 300-400 years?

Aight. I can work with that.

Why does it seem like fantasy, in particular High Fantasy, seems to turn out more utter garbage than Sci-Fi does?
This isn't to say that there's no bad Sci-Fi, nor that Fantasy is incapable of producing anything decent, just that Fantasy seems to produce more completely irredeemable books than any other /tg/ related genre.
19 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>50287604
The last few times we had this thread, it was because sci-fi writers usually at least have a passing interest in science and technology, making them slightly more worldly authors than the fantasy writers who had a dream about a talking rabbit.

Or maybe it's because there are so many more fantasy books being produced compared to sci-fi books, so you have more targets to point at and mock.
>>
I think personally it's harder to craft a good fantasy book. That's me though.
>>
>>50287653
I'd say it's more because Sci-fi more often than not relates to possible philosophic(or whatever you want to call it) issues that arise from modern and soon to be modern existence. Fantasy is more often than not totally divorced from the real world and make little attempt to be relevant to issues that people can relate to.

With "high fantasy" the problem is even more magnified, more often becoming about the things that define it as high fantasy, rather than doing anything novel.
