Hey /tg/. New to DnD and super pissed that my wizard was killed off while I wasn't playing. Member of the party decided to kill off the rest in a desperate situation to stay alive. He's a level 4 fighter, on his way to become some kind of demon lord and is now the villain of the campaign.
So now I have to reroll a new level 1 character, and all I care about is killing him. What do you recommend I make?

anyway, will continue bumping this thread from time to time with some thematic stuff. i cant be the only one who likes this idea.
medieval weapons because:
they are cooler than firearms
they are cooler than modern firearms
they are more brutal
they are more menacing
in the setting firearms dont exist and simply cant exist because its coded into existence that nobody can come up with an ak-47 or a pistol in this world
although im keen on RPGs and grenades

What is it?
Lost Worlds is a "combat picture book game" designed and trademarked by Alfred Leonardi.
How is it played?
Play requires two players and at least two "visual combat books", with each player choosing a character (i.e., a book) from those available.At the start of play, each player removes the character sheet for that character from their book and hands the book to his or her opponent. The character sheet lists the various combat actions which the character can take during the battle. The combat book lists the effects of the attacks in tables, and serves as a visual reference for what the other player is doing. Hence, each player views entries in the book from a first-person perspective, seeing only their opponent and not themselves.
There is also a further series of books, of emphatically female fighter-types, under the collective title of Queen's Blade, published from late 2005 by Hobby Japan. With more than 20 books the books were generally new illustrations for existing combat matrices, rather than "new" characters (although at least one doujin has utilised what appears to be a "new matrix"). As of December 2007 a second series, Queen's Gate, was introduced, featuring characters from Japanese visual media, and in October 2008 Hobby Japan announced four further characters in a sub-set of the original series (Queen's Blade Rebellion).

Okay, here's my idea:
Probably would only work in exclusively text-based game, somewhere on Roll20 or PBP.
Everyone in the party is playing either in his own SETTING or his own SYSTEM altogether. DM describes party members as approximation of their translation into each member's setting/system.
>John is playing a Tech-priest in Dark Heresy.
>He sees Jane as healing-oriented Priest and Mark as Assassin with Bolt Pistol
>Jame is healy Cleric in D&D 5th Edition.
>she sees John as Warlock and Mark as Rogue
>Mark is Lasombra
>He sees Jane as Tzimisce and John as Tremere
All their actions are obviously translated into something else for their version. So do monsters encountered. Kobolds become gretchin. Ork warboss becomes huge Werewolf. Cultists... stay cultists alright.
All they say will be either translated by the DM to others, or omitted/filled in to maintain the picture.
However, each also sees only a part of the picture. The door will be locked tight, but detect magic will show nothing and the tech will be inscrutable to Victorian vampires. But a techpriest will just punch in a code, 'cos he's the only one to see the keypad - and door will open. An artifact may do strange things to both Techpriest and the Vampire, but all it needs a Remove Curse from D&D Cleric.
Etcetera.
Now, every now and then characters will be allowed clues and slight glimpses to what goes on in the worlds of their allies... Requiring them figuring it out NOT ON META LEVEL and working in tandem to unravel the plot.
The whole point is to cause sever mindfuck.
Thoughts? How could this concept be improved?

And also, may I add, you would have to choose from a pool of systems and settings which can interact this way without them acting REALLY WEIRD with each other, or else they will realiza the truth fast.
For example if a techpriest starts babling about tech shit to players who see him as a Vampire or Mage it will confuse greatly. You'd have to translate everything they say to each other... And that is, again, pretty convoluted.

Every year for Thanksgiving my family get's together for a week so I am looking for some board games to bring this year.
So far I have picked up Paperback and Forbidden Island but I am looking to bring a third. Most of them have never played anything more complicated than Monopoly so I am trying to pick ones that are fairly easy to learn the rules of.
I have been considering picking up Forbidden Dessert since it is in the same vein as FI and the test games of FI I have done here have gone over well. I have also been eyeing up Pandemic and King of Tokyo but I am looking to get input on if there are any other good ones I could get.

Dixit is pretty good to play with both family and novices; the rules a re dead simple, and the interpretive aspect is best with people you know well. I would recommend Dixit Odyssey as being the starter box with the best art, but any of them are playable. Runs up to six players.
Coloretto is a pretty good set collecting game with simple rules but interesting interactions that plays with up to five.
If you want another cooperative game instead, Forbidden Desert is good, although chances are it will come to replace Forbidden Island for you instead of standing alongside it.

A lot folk I know and most of tg is burned out on it, but that doesn't mean it's not great to introduce to Normal-Folk

Catan also gets vastly more palatable with an expansion. I like Traders and Barbarians for having a bunch of modular scenarios and optional rules that can be included, but both Cities & Knights and Explorers & Pirates are pretty good too. Seafarers on its own is kind pf lackluster, but it has the advantage of being compatible with Cities & Knights, which none of the other expansions are.
