Alright, so my second semester of uni is coming up. Calculus 3 was a breeze, and my advisor told me to take Linear Algebra next.

When I asked her if I'd be able to instead take Differential Equations first, she flipped shit and told me that that isn't even possible.

The fuck? Is it?

>not doing Calc 3 and Matrix Algebra at the same time

You fucked up nigger.

>The fuck? Is it?

Some schools merge Matrix Algebra into ODEs and others don't. If you're desperate then you could ask do them at the same time and study a bit ahead to eigenvectors.
>>
It is weird that she said you can't differential equations. A lot of people at my uni take that after Calc III.
>>
>>8435134
linear algebra is a stupidly powerful tool for solving DEs, so I don't know why you would want to learn DE without it

OTOH, my sophomore DE class didn't have a single formal LA-based approach and was instead focused on solving stupidly easy things in the quickest way possible without learning any of the theory, so, it really didn't matter whether or not we had taken LA.

When did you realize you were a retard?

I just recently figured out i could avoid having to clean up piss from the toilet seat if i just raise it up before pissing.

Would it be scientifically possible for me to beat by head with a pan till i become intelligent?

You can also avoid cleaning it up by not cleaning it up.

Why bother when somebody can do it for you?

Is DXM induced insomnia a thing?

After two experiences of Plateau Sigma in a row I can't seem to sleep at all.

The first time I had been awake for 40 or so hours, but now I can't even count. I know that I'm fine up until around eight days as long as I eat and I'm careful with how I walk but I'm just wondering what's the reasoning behind all of this?

At least if someone could point me in the right direction that would be helpful.

Idk wtf plateau sigma is (I go by 1-4) but in my own experience I haven't been able to find any real research as to its recreational effects on humans. Pretty much everything is internet druggies getting high and speculating or it's low dose pharma settings. Overall I'd just say steer clear of high doses cause frankly nigga nobody really knows what the fuck can happen with the pharmacokinetics of 64 robitussin capsules in the gut
>>
>>8435090
Forgot to answer your question:
Essentially any number of changes to the sleep cycle can happen, modern medicine is pretty primitive (when it comes to live-action brain shit outside of a scanning machine) so cross your fingers and your body will likely make it out of this one alive
Unless ur rekt lol
>>
>>8435082
Probably because if you've sigma-dosed you've been doing drugs for days on end.

Also be careful as the other guy says. We really don't know the long term impact of DXM. There was the Olney lesion thing, and the refutation of that study, whatever. This just shows the results as inconclusive. Doing Sigma doses is undeniably fucking up your brain, at least in the mid-term, so make sure you get plenty of rest and recovery.

After taking AP Chemistry, I'm considering a double major in Chemistry and Psychology. Can any chem majors on /sci/ share their experiences with their classes/difficulty?
11 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>8435058
First two years for the standard track are general "inorganic", and then organic. With maybe an analytical course thrown in.

If you are still taking, or passed AP chem, essentially the first year will be a repeat of this. It will be EZ mode, as it should be.

Organic is very different. The lecture exams are extremely abstract, involving only theory, no math in my experience. The labs are meh cuz its hard to get accurate results in micro experimentation with shitty equipment. Overall not bad if you're not a brainlet.
Then, they remove the curtain. It turns out, all the foundational concepts you were taught in gen Chen were a fucking lie. It's all fucking lies. Your degree is really just a physics degree where people just like to do stuff macroscopically, with the occasional journey into biology.

Chenical Energetics and dynamics, aka thermo dynamics and quantum physics are not kys tier, but it will be a rude awakening if you haven't been paying attention in class.

Last year is generally biochem and physics Chen part 2. At this point they'll have you take analytical, which basically show you how to do experiments or produce results with accuracy, and show you why its hard to do.

After that, its off to grad school wishing you had done a chemical engineering or physics undergrad. Or you manage to squeeze in somewhere at a lab cuz you somehow made it through without acquiring autism and disregarding basic networking

A chemistry major is:

>Year 1:
Calculus 1&2
Gen Chem 1&2 + Lab <or AP Chem>
Analytical Chem

>Year 2:
Calculus 3 and Linear Algebra
Orgo 1&2 + Labs
Physics for Premeds 1&2

>Year 3:
Inorganic 1&2
Pchem 1&2 + Lab
Instrumental Analysis

>Year 4:
<fucking nothing>

The hardest part is fucking up a lab near the end and having to waste hours restarting it at the beginning.

If you want it to be less of a meme then take biology, biochem, genetics, big boys physics, statistics or jump the shark and do ChemE.

What happens if another light source comes in contact?
>>
>>8435012
photons of any energy can interact with an electron
one way they interact is by getting absorbed/emitted in discrete, quantized amounts. if a photon has more energy than is necessary to do this, it will still do it, and the extra energy will be conserved as kinetic energy (i.e. conservation of momentum)
if a photon doesn't have enough energy to bump the electron up to the next level, it can still transfer it's energy as kinetic energy (again, conservation of momentum)

Well, /sci/?

And don't be cunty about it, either. See how well you can do.

Thank you for an honest reply, and thanks for playing!

I used to memorize them back in hs so re-learning the table wasn't difficult. Part of the appeal is that they're about to officially re-name the last four elements (the quiz accepts these new names as alternate entries, atm).

I think it's very interesting that copper, silver and gold are all in the same group, /in that order/. Copper is also the principal constituent of bronze; I was wondering if any chemists could say a bit more about whatever other commonalities these well-known transition metals have with one another - I assume they're all relatively soft metals. The modern convention of bronze/silver/gold medals in the Olympics got started in the very early 20th c., this seems to have come after the recognition of the metals being in the same group c. 1871 by Mendelev, in an amended table (per wiki).

Did any historical understandings of gold as "best", silver as "second-best" and bronze or similar as "third best" precede Mendelev's arrangement?

Are flies self-aware? Do they have thoughts?

What would be the 'thought process' of a fly in its daily life?

Do they think "That's a pile of faeces. I am now going to land on it and lay eggs in it", or do they just do it out of impulse?
18 posts and 5 images submitted.

Yes and no. They are not self aware and don't think in the way that you mean since they do not think critically mostly just assess situations. They do feel and they do think but it's mostly tools for survival unlike us humans.
