Let's get an inspiration thread going and only non-photographic media.
I'm in a huge slump, (hopefully) bottoming out of a bout of depression and need to force myself to get out and shoot. Help a /p/rotatographer who hasn't taken a picture that wasn't related to work in almost eight months out and maybe, just maybe, someone else'll find something of worth in this thread.
>non-photographic media
sure
artist will usually be in the file name

What does this post mean?
>>2895891
huh, really makes you think
what is this style called? creative, lively lights hitting the subject.. kinda like it and would like to read up on it and try it out myself.
It's not really a style. High contrast ratios would be an aesthetic choice that all of the photographers used. Some of them used a cucoloris to produce patterned, dramatic shadows on the subjects.
Really, though, this is just you finding common thread between unrelated photos because you're curious and you're looking for them, so good for you.
>lights
its just one light going through a gobo
you just a put a giant plant in front of your light to get a home like feel

"Shit"
I know a lot of people regard photography as a fairly personal hobby, but has there ever been a /p/ meetup? I've done a few photowalks with people from instagram and had a good time.
>>2895615
Everytime people on this website try to do meet ups it always ends up being an awkward waste of time
next stop is Florida, didn't you know?
>>2895615
Not on /p/ but I tried joining a photo club once but was frustrated.
All they did was talk about gear gear and more gear.
There are photo clubs that want me to join their clubs but I declined.
I'm a sociable person and have tons of friends its just that I don't enjoy the company of fellow photogs.
Looking to buy a camera. I have never been involved in photography previous to this point however I feel like it is something I could really dive into. I am wondering what camera I should get, however, I want a camera that I won't regret after a year and want to upgrade aka waste X amount of dollars just to completely upgrade. I want a camera I can grow and learn with. I am not looking to do anything professional, but I want a nice camera that I can take pictures of my friends with, and take with me when I travel. Similarly I want a camera that I can take pictures that I am proud of, and wouldn't mind giving said pictures to my friends once taken. I am willing to drop some cash on it, but I am looking for something ~600 or less. If the price is a little higher I can deal with that, however I want honest opinions. Inb4 You're a fucking faggot with no real budget.

I am also slightly worried about something I've been reading involving a crop sensor. How do I evade issues involving it. If this sensor is not a problem, could someone explain to me how they work and further how they are finessed.
>>2895572
worried about crop sensors? that's paralysis by analysis right there
>>2895575
Again I know very little of photography and just from some reading they annoy people who buy cameras within the price range I'm looking for. If there are ways around the crop sensor or at least ways to utilize it I have my ears open.... If you wouldn't mind explaining that is.
I'm looking for a decent lens for handheld shots in low light conditions, preferably not absurdly expensive, compatible with Nikon cameras. I remember a couple years ago there was a ~$200 Sigma 35mm f/1.4 or whatever lens but it has apparently been discontinued. Anything else worthwhile without spending a thousand dollars?

gear thread bb. & btw, the best night photography usually comes from medium format and large format. For some reason digital just can't keep up as well in that realm , it looks too try-hard. pic related

Instgram just relesaed a 'story' feature. Pretty much exaclty like snapchat.
thoughts?
Are any of you instafags gunna use it?
What's the purpose? Why not just add to your page?
Is it purely for snapshitting?
is it better than snapchat?
Personally i'm into snapshitting on snapchat, but it could be fun to see how my instagram audience likes the stories i make

resize that shit
I already knew how to use Photoshop before getting into photography, so I was editing stuff day 1.
Retouching people photos is something that you're always going to perfect and get better at, so I'd probably say that it's the thing that'll take the most time, for anyone. Most effects can be completed fairly straight-forwardly, but a face is just something where you have to pick when to stop and say it's good enough.
>>2895153
I edited my photos past RAW developer where I did not set up any local adjustments only like ten times when the photograph was something special and required it - happens too rarely though.
>>2895153
edit from day 1 or else no one will give a fuck

Fucking stupid
>>2894286
Incredible camera. Has some annoying features and limitations, but the image quality is unparalleled in the price range. Form factor is super flexible to boot.
>>2894286
Small form factor is deceptive. You have to accessorise the fuck out of it to make it practical (unless you are happy shooting no more than a few minutes of footage).
