Please help me to devise plants and objects that would make a small dark outdoor space comfy.
Pic related it's a yard on a British terraced house almost exactly like my own. It's about 1.5x4 meters and bounded on 4 sides by brick walls.
Needless to say, it doesn't get much light. I was thinking of:
>resurfacing the ground (tile?)
>painting walls a light colour
>wall mounted planters on the shared wall for a few herbs (gets some light)
>free standing chimnea
>maybe raised moss planters or beds, cultivating mosses on objects (tips/how?)
>other extreme-shade-loving plants e.g. mushrooms on a stack of logs
>rock bed and/or motorised water feature
What do you think of my ideas? They're just notions at this stage so tips and advice welcome.
Cubensis will grow good, they dont need much light since there is no photosynthesis. For cannabis you will need some serious light. I would suggest LED since its gone so for compared to old days when they were still shit... Just buy high output LED diodes like 1-5w and get like 500w total and you will have some place for few widows to get fully developed. Hydro would help a lot simce you can kinda get some help from proper nutrients to cover lack of good light. I would suggest go with autoflowers they stay small are not so potent but you will look like a badass gardner to your neighbor!

I'm not trying to grow any drugs, maybe just cooking mushrooms if the light and climate permit. And cooking herbs e.g. Mint, parsley
>>703604
Get lights and grow what u want still... Shrooms take about 2-3 years for shitake to start produce so forget it
So, i just bought a kayak and inside the package there is this thing. No mention of it in the instruction booklet. Any idea of what could possibly be?
>>703482
you obviously sit on it somehow
thats a kayak seed

eels are fun as hell to catch.
I wouldn't call that giant by any means though, the eel in the video is typical size for adult American Eel.
Hey /out/! Need your expertise. Was on /an/, send them pic related, sent me here. What is this thing on my hand?

hey guys.
I'll be graduating college this spring and am trying to get back into backbacking. did it a lot in middle school and high school, but my last trip ended with a bad fall down a cliff. Haven't really been /out/ since (go to college in phila).
So I have two questions for you:
1) know any good places near philly to do a quick overnight? Not really looking for a campsite but an actual trail or forest.
2) how would you go about replacing the top part of a 10 year old backpack from north face. black kid at my summer camp used it as a day pack and left it on some island.
Thanks

lol that's a good observation

Hey, so I just got my first car, it has a very spaceous trunk. I'm looking to build a bug out bag for this car, to keep me alive should I have to drive away and flee or if it will brake down in the middle of nowhere.
I though of packing the stuff in a 60L canvas bag or similar. what I'd pack:
med kit
road kit (warnvests, signs etc)
flares
water
MREs
a knoife
starter cables
Do you have any infographics/recommendations ?
To my person: 18, german, 6'1'', mediocre outdoor experience, amateur shooting experience, license for 4 months now

>Recommendations
Food, water, shelter, warmth.
Six mountain house meals, a cheap Sierra cup, supercat stove, bottle of HEET, Sawyer mini filter, two 2-liter bottles of distilled water (Sawyer will thread onto these), a cheap cold-weather sleeping bag. As long as you stay in your car, this will will easily last you 3-4 days. Someone will drive by in that time.
I'd also add a can or two of fix-a-flat, make sure you have a spare tire and know how to change it, some cash, duct tape, a full gas can (change it a couple times per year), and btw, the reason I said carry distilled water was for the radiator, as well as drinking.
>>703320
>recommendations?
there is a lot if information if you search on google and youtube
a lot of it is maybe survivalist and preppers who put guns and ammo in their kits and a lot of things the ordinary person probably wouldn't store in his car, but regardless if you're a prepper or not..they might still give you some ideas.

I've been interested in /out/ and /k/ survival stuff for a long time, but I don't have that much money.
I have packed right now, an ox whip, emergency window breaker and belt cutter, lights, tools, spare tire, emergency signs and vests, med kit.
Will stock up on water and food in the next days and get a spare tank.
I'm gonna be using anodized aluminum cookware and while I'll bring soap, assuming I don't...
>What is the best all natural means of cleaning/sanitizing cookware at the campsite WITHOUT soap.
If you cook meat and have a little grease in the pans, can't you just throw some ash from the fire in and make soap?
>>703043
>rinse everything out
>scrub inside of pot with sand to remove anything else that's stuck on
>rinse again to get sand out of pot
>if any food residue remains then repeat the sand scrub + rinse cycle
>>703048
you need to render the fat, leech the ash, then combine them in heat. its a dedicated process.
i believe you can use the ash and a bit of water alone to scrub them out
alright guys so I am curious as to how hard is it to camp anywhere in a national forest. some call it stealth camping/illegal camping. etc.. what im trying to say is. Is it possible and if so how hard is it to do it without getting caught? i live in CA and have considered angeles forest as a first option. a few weeks ago driving down angeles crest i saw a tent which had been randomly set above the highway with no fucks given, mind you i was driving there at 7am. I know the sheriff's traffic is heavy on this highway so it makes me wonder what the consequences of doing so will look like. any advice is helpful...
>>702888
>national forest
>camping illegal
might wanna research that a little better
>>702888
You do not need to stealth camp in a National Forest, dispersed camping is free on like 99% of NF land.
UK fag here, how is camping solo?
I don't know as I haven't been yet, planning to camp solo later this year though
Fell out with my camping buddy :(
>>702420
It's not bad, you just need to find stuff to occupy your time so you don't feel bored / lonely. Go hiking, fishing, swimming, etc. during the day and bring a book and a reading light for at night. It gets boring if you're just gonna be sitting around your campsite by yourself for a couple of days.
>>702420
Travel. Don't sit in the same spot. It gives your trip some purpose and you won't feel lonely.
People who have worked at pic related, what should I expect?

Anyone know how available campgrounds are? Me and my friends were gonna go to Joshua tree this weekend (we live in LA), but I called in and they said they fill up by thursday. So I thought Zion, but I don't want to drive 7 hours and then have there be no spots...
No reservable spots are open, so I'm asking about the walk-in, first come first serve campgrounds instead.
>>702375
Come to ks.. always room to camp here
>>702375
I haven't been to a campground for anything other than refilling my water since I was a kid.
Why would you want to pay, just to listen to kids screaming and drunkards arguing about guns all night? Find yourself a nice section of forestry land where you won't see or hear another sign of civilization.
>>702403
Not much dispersed camping in southern cal
What's your motivation for going /out/?
>>702333
My professional life is solving other people's problem.
My family life is solving other people's problem.
My friends love nothing ore than telling me about their problem hopping I have a solution.
>>702333
I hate being inside
I hate modern society
I hate modern culture
I want to be alone
I want to do difficult rewarding things with my hands
I like wildlife, plants, rocks, nature in general
I like storms
Enough reasons yet?
>>702333
Fun, relaxation and exercise.
Give me your best booze stove design with pot holders and best fuel types please. What is better make one or buy ready to use kit from china for 10eur? Tired of burning rotten wood and getting my clothing smell lile shit to just make some coffe while /out/
http://m.instructables.com/id/Soda-Can-Stove-3/
I've always used something like that. If made correctly you can set the pot right on the stove with no pot stand and it's self priming as well so no need for a priming plate. Just fill the center, light, wait for the jets to take and set your pot right on top.

Roll-top bottle. Current (pictured) is coke bottle, but sprite has a flatter bottom and lighter weight.

Here's some more pictures and notations. Mostly because I have shit to do today, and I'm procrastinating.
Hey guys, I have some weeks time free from work and I'm thinking about just going somewhere nice into the woods.
But I'm having trouble finding a patch of forrest anywhere in Europe where I can walk freely without meeting too much civilisation, just want to be for myself.
Who of you knows some spots?
Also feel free to post your experiences in the woods in winter/spring.
>>701994
Unless you live in Scandinavia or east EU then GG m8. Find a national park on google or tell us where you live
>>701997
I live in Germany but can travel around pretty well in Europe
Just spend a few hours on google earth looking for big green patches. There's no real wilderness outside Scotland and Scandiwegia, but there are lots of options to be alone:
-Corsica
-Sardinia
-Pyrenees
-Italian central mountains
-Balkans
I've never been to the Alps but it looks like there are lots of isolated woodlands where you wouldn't be bothered.
It's easy to FEEL isolated in Europe; a bit trickier to BE
isolated.
But seriously, just go to Scotland.
I am going camping in southern Utah at the end of March. I live in the Midwest, and I'm wondering how cold it is at night there?
What do I need to bring? Am I going to be freezing my ass of at night in the desert?
>>701702
Learn to internet idiot and look it up yourself. Shitloads of resources.
>>701707
Just a bunch of articles about buying x and y gear and blah blah blah.
I know the low will be about 35 degrees, but I want some human input. Does 35 degrees feel like it does in the midwest with 400% humidity? Or is it not a big deal?
Also, get off your period. Obviously I made a thread here for a reason.
>>701710
Southern utah is a big place with lots of varying climates. If you are talking deep south, like St George, then it's going to be in the 40's at night. Zion, it'll be in the 20's, moab will be between 0 and 30, cedar city will be in the 30's, etc.
No, the cold doesn't feel like the Midwest cold.
