It would help if we knew what was on the list in the first place.
What are your thoughts on me cheaping out and buying this?

Could you recommend a grey 50L bag with molle straps that isn't actually 36L plus pouches, The cheaper the better.

You're on /out/. Sell your house or pull a second mortgage to buy gear or gtfo. People buying milsurp or tacticool are generally made fun of.
With that out of the way, give it a shot. If it works for you, great. If not, sell it and try another. Good luck.
I can sugest NORFIN TACTIC series.... I own Norfin tactic 40... Plenty of space... You can get Norfin tactic 70 in pic. Great brand and good quality... Costs around 65-70eur
>buying anything on aliexpress ever
nope
Where is whaling still a thing? As an American could I go to Japan and just join a whaling crew? I just read Moby dick and whaling sounds wicked
Anybody here been whaling before?
It's a rich white people hobby now. I don't think whales are commercially hunted.
>>707004
i think norway still hunts whales. also the natives in alaska still hunt them. gl.

it's either commercial or for research purposes
Hey /out/, I want to go camping at title related. I've been camping before, but only with big groups, and this time I'll be on my own in one of the most secluded National Parks in the US. I'm worried that I know too little about camping and I'll have to bug out in a couple of days instead of the week I want to spend over there. I've got a water proof tent, a sleeping bag, a cast iron skillet, a pair of good boots, 5 1-liter water bottles, and no idea what the fuck I'm doing.
How fucked am I? What would you bring? Anybody familiar with Big Bend who knows what's available nearby and what is must-see while I'm there?
>>706955
OP here. I think that the weather will be really cooperative, ranging from low 50's to low 80's the entire time, and I know that all my stuff is fine for that. Low chances of rain, storms, etc.
>>706963
Shameless OP bump
Bumping with random info graphs until OP can get advice
>and because I'm a new fag to going /out/ and would like some tips on what to bring on babbys first alone camping trip
Going on a 26.2 mile ruck march with a minimum of 35 lbs although I'll probably do more. Any basic tips? I've already been training and I know I'll have to hydrate a lot but I'm not sure if there is anything else I can do to make it easier.
>>706701
Bataan Death march huh... maybe ill see you out there.
Ive never had a problem with my feet, but buddies of mine prone to getting blisters wear regular socks and panty hose type sock. apparently it helps.
Remember to snack and keep hydrating with salts (cerasport, (sp?) or ORS)
Its literally a marathon, so take your time and treat any issues as they may arise, such as hot spots on your feet, cramps, ruck discomfort, etc.
Its gonna suck, but thats the point, imagine being one of the original marchers, think of them and push on.
>>706724
It'll be my first time, really looking forward to it. Sounds like you've been before?
Ive done Bataan twice. 2nd time I did it I jogged the downhill parts going around the mountain and it cut quite a bit off my time
Light 1 person tents. Basically im after a tent like the six moon solo or the big agnes flycreek. Except those two are way too expensive for me. I was looking into a bivvy bag but i live in north australia so really need to be properly water and bug proof to enjoy the night. Are there any other tents that are similar weight (1kg) that arent as expensive as these ones? Prob a max of $300aud i could go to but would prefer less. I know someone is going to say
>light
>cheap
>pick one
But surely there is some middle ground.
Actually more important than weight is packed size
Is it not possible to carry a hammock in Zyzz land?
Yes but id rather not depend on trees plus isnt a hammock including fly and tarp about the same weight as a tent anyway?
Op here im revising my criteria which might increase results.
Only needs to be 3 season. Can be upto 1.5kg, would be really great if it was free standing. Ive got a ferrino chaos 2 at the moment which is a great tent for 2 people so if there was a 1 person version of that i'd be pretty happy.
>>706693
I was just about to make a similar thread
>>706699
We have the worlds most poisonous snakes and spiders, the fauna all have sharp claws and spikes despite being mostly herbivores, the mozzies carry Ross river virus which is a primordial cousin to malaria and will knock you for 6
A tent isn't too much to ask for
Hi /out/. I'm going to europe mid year, wondering about hiking and camping there. We are going to italy, spain, greece, croatia and possibly turkey. What must do hikes are there? Is it easy to just hike alone, or do you have to do organised treks? I'd like to hear ideas and thoughts on this subject. Also we were to camp for a few days where could we leave the rest of our belongings? I realise im asking specific questions about a whole continent but any discussion will be useful
>>706042
It's easy if you have money.
Spain is safe save for gypsies in the north, but they're bros if you know how to treat them. Like most dangerous groups, they rarely go outdoors though.
Just follow famous routes and you'll be ok. I recommend you buy a good /out/ gps though.
You can almost always rent lockers in big train stations, I think maybe you can find locker renting places where you can safely store your packs and shit for days.
Never EVER leave your shit in hotels unless they're expensive, because shit will get stolen.
Turkey is a bit fucked up and getting worse, I wouldnt go there right now. Croatia is less safe than the rest of countries you mentioned.
It's all about how much money you have. Even if you go cheap never skip meals.
>>706045
>Turkey is a bit fucked up and getting worse, Croatia is less safe than the rest of the countries you mentioned
I'll eat my words if you've actually been to either of those countries, but this reads like a certified shitpost.
OP that sounds like a hell of a trip. Not sure what you mean by "is it easy to just hike alone"; they're all free countries. You probably weren't planning on going to eastern Turkey but it'd be so cool do do Mt Ararat. I think you are required to have a guide for that.
Spain must be the coolest country in Europe. You can follow the GR footpaths all through the country; my hiking experience is with the Pyrenees, Picos de Europa, and Andalucia. All 10/10 attractions. Wild camping is easy.
How long will you have in each country?
>>706045
Maybe Spain is different but I've left my shit in hostels with random strangers throughout central Europe and never had anything stolen. Obviously if you have anything really valuable, keep it on you or in a locker but in any hotel I wouldn't worry about having stuff stolen.
I'm going to agree with >>706075 that you've never been to Croatia or Turkey. Turkey may be a mess politically, but as a tourist it is fine and I'm not sure why you'd even mention Croatia as unsafe. I'd be more worried about pickpockets in Spain and Italy, but even that's not a problem unless you're at crowded tourist trap and oblivious of your surroundings.
Hey /out/ I want to spend a night in the woods. I have no formal training or special gear, just the common knowledge of TV and the Internet. I figure I won't need more than a hatchet and a knife to build a small shelter and make myself a fire ( going to use a lighter for that)
Anyways I found an old hatchet and pocket knife laying around my shed. Are these good brands or should I go buy something better? Pic related
Here's the hatchet. I cleaned it up a little bit but it looks pretty old
>>705777
Checked.
And for one night? Sure. Just sharpen them.
I don't know anything about that brand, but looks like a decent litle knoife.
>>705785
>decent litle knoife

My 13 and 15 year old Sisters go camping a lot with their Father. I want to buy them each a survival/bug out bag for Easter. What should I include in it? Budget is $1,000 ($500 each).

What about your wife's son?
>>705297
I'm a 22 year old mate. No wife.
>>705290
I don't get it...
But my girlfriend's daughter has been looking for a good backpack too so I'm open to ideas. My sister's husband also wants a Ray Rice jersey, any idea where to get the best deal on one of those?
When's the last time you built a snow fort, /out/?
>>705119
Never. All I get is rain.
~5 years ago, why you asking?
>>705119
Never got enough snow this winter.
Hey guys, I created a small survey dedicated to my class conservation biology. I need ~80 more responses and will appreciate any and all participants. It takes at worst 5 minutes and it covers a few topics about the environment, agriculture, etc. etc. Thank you for all those who participate.

Answered Anon. Good luck with your assignment.

reading my answers really makes me realise how fucked this planet really is
>>704840
Filled one out, good luck with your report buddy.
Didn't see one in the catalog.
Any recommendations on good flashlights?
>Low price for poor fags
>High price for rich fags
I'm looking for a low price decent 18650 flashlight.
a buddy of mine recently got on of these http://www.amazon.com/UltraFire-Zoomable-Flashlight-Torch-18650/dp/B00EP60VDG he says its great for the price
>>704832
Part of the reason I started this thread $15 seems cheap. But then I haven't bought a flashlight worth a shit in like 8 years.
Back then a 200 lumin led flashlight was $50 or more.
So $15 seems like it will break easily.
I very well could be wrong though.
Plus 18650 batteries worth a damn are usually $15 each.
>2005+11
>not using AA
Don't be a fag and get a normal battery.
>Want to go on a kayaking + camping expedition with friends

What can I do /out/? I reckon you have some kind of experience with team problems. I thought that if I make a very detailed plan that shows I know what I'm doing would convince them and their parents, but apparently not.
>>704282
>>Moreover their parents aren't allowing them to go
get older?
>I'm so sorry you couldn't come, but I put a lot of work into this
>go kayaking
If your woman can't handle that, you need to get a new one.
>>704285
Yeah the problem is we wanted to go on *a* holiday, and this was my idea for it, I can't go on my own or with friends because we all planned to go together, and doing both would cost too much
Im out of money and supplies so i wont be on any adventures
i need some good survival games preferably like UnReal world or dwarf fortress adventure mode and things that i can pirate and wont have to update also difficulty>graphics
>my current setup in unreal world

i was going to try that after /out/

A few various sizes of tin cans, a dumpster blanket and some scrap Tyvek from a construction site is all you need, anon. Pick up a free book of matches from the grocery store's customer service desk and swing by your local food bank for some canned goods. Camping on forestry land is free, and so is getting there if you walk or hitchhike.
Stop making excuses.
