Hey /out/

Looking for a tent which i can use this summer for some hiking trips with my gf and some with a couple of friends. A 2 person tent will do but i dont know any good tent brands since ive been using tarp or a friends tent.

The tent is gonna be used in Scandinavia and since ill be using it with my gf it needs to be light (my gf is less than 50kg and cant carry a lot so ill be carrying most of our gear, and i would like the tent not to be more than 3kg).

Price range is not that important but it would be cool if the tent could be bought in europe (or better Scandinavia).

thanks

Idk how big you are but I'd probably go with a 3 person tent. I'm 6'2 so fitting into a 2 person tent with the gf wasn't the most comfortable

Im 6 feet ~176 pounds and my gf is ~100 pounds and 5 feet 2.

But thanks I might pick a 3 person tent for the extra storage

Look into Hileberg (expensive but top notch), Bergans, Helly Hansen, Helsport (not expensive but awesome quality).

Hey /out/, anon here.

Let me first off say that I'm new to /out/, but not to 4chan.
I believe this is the best board to post this. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That being said, why is /doomsdayprepping/ the outdoor equivalent of having a Mustang in the /o/ community?

Why do the general public make fun of people for being ready, I don't get it.

The reason I don't get it, is because I am a Florida-fag myself, born and raised.

I went through the 2004 hurricane season here. It was not fun. My family and I didn't bug out, we hunkered down. We were without power for a little over a week at the longest, I believe. I was thankful my mom bought gallons of water, food for us, batteries for radios and even my good ol' Gameboy Advance to play Pokemon since I had bum fuck else to do.

In conclusion, when I'm older, (21 now) I plan on having no less than seven days worth of food and water for each member of my house at all times, not even when a hurricane is on the way.

(Just look at the recent blizzard in the US. Store shelves were picked clean by people before it hit. I don't want to get stuck in that traffic and mess if I don't have to.)

Why is that so cringeworthy nowadays?

Shamless self bump to the fun fact (in case you all forgot) that in 2004, text messaging still used T9, Twitter didn't exist, and Facebook was still called; TheFacebook.

it isn't

btw: are you aware of the solar superstorm which missed earth in 2012?
>>

>it isn't
Going to have to say you're a little biased based on the fact that you're on /out/.

Most people consider preppers or even people that have BOBs to be crazy, or in the least, nuts.

>are you aware of the solar superstorm which missed earth in 2012?

No I wasn't! I am currently researching now.

PS: Still OP here, even if the poster count went up.
I had to reset my browser since the captcha wasn't loading.

When I was a kid, I watched Man vs Wild a lot. I adore his spirit on survival, and his iron balls to eat something shitty normal people walk away from. that also made me a camper now.

But enough about him. My question is, what do YOU think of him, I also didn't redpilled myself to Grylls to so, discuss on what's bad about this bogus..

Most you can bodyslam into unconsciousness, but if you see a polar bear just fucking run.

On a lighter note, don't stand under a bear that's about to get tranquilized by rangers, my dad worked as one for a bit and saw a colleague get a faceful of shit. Must've been pretty hilarious desu, the guy quit a few days later.

Whats your routine when stumbling upon (and researching) an interesting place?
Here's what i do most of the times:

>Step 1: Basic Internet search
Checking whats to find about it on Google and Google Earth/Maps. The downloaded version of Google Earth offers the option to use old satellite maps wich shows some places in better conditions, or with less trees wich sometimes opens the view to parts that were hidden before. Sometimes pictures made by other explorers are aviable, giving a good look at what will await me.

>Step 2: A first look
If the place isnt that far away and/or the info found is blurry, i take a first sneak peek without any exploration gear and without entering the place itself.
>Isnt this a waste of time?
Satellite maps and pictures on the internet can be horribly outdated sometimes. Ive found enough places demolished and overbuilt by houses while the maps still showed the old buildings. For me it is a bigger waste of time to go there, carrying all my stuff with me and finding nothing in the end.

I often just walk around the Place in some distance while keeping my movements legal and unsuspicious (walking on official paths or streets). This is helpful to find new entrance possibilities or to check if my old planned routes are still in a good condition.

>Step 3: Preparations
With the info collected i finally plan from where i enter the building and where i will probably leave it. Having some extra escape routes in case of angry owners or shady residents is also recommended.

1st for day-drinking busch light and shitposting in fishing threads

>woooo
>>
>>685667
Sounds nice. Except for the Busch Light. Get on some heavy duty Natural Ice.

Bass Pro has some big "Spring Fishing" deal and I guess tomorrow if you are a rewards member, you can get the sale prices early. But there aren't any good deals on rods or reels unless it is store brand. 25% off Spider Wire, sales on some lures, and then some random rebates but I hate rebates. I'm never going to take the time to fill them out and mail them.
>>
>>685670
>Get on some heavy duty Natural Ice.

natty ice was what everyone around here drank in high school at the pasture parties.

My dad and my best friend's dad both drink busch and I always raid their beer fridges when I'm in town so I've gotten acclimated to the taste but busch light has slightly fewer calories, gotta get that summer bod for reeling in the qt's while fishing shirtless in a 40 year old, objectively ugly boat while I'm out on the lake this year.

What's the point?
How can people properly plan for shtf survival when they don't even have a proper means of self defense?

Idk senpai, I'm American, I don't have these problems.
>>
>>679102
not everyone lives in an area that permits funs. Also, ammo runs out. Obviously you should get a gun and ammo if you can, but I can see why people focus on weapons that can't run out of ammo.
>>
>>679107
This.

Of course it doesn't make having a gun a bad idea, as long as you're not an idiot, which 9/10 Americans are blithering fucking idiots and more likely to shoot themselves or someone they love than anyone or anything that is an actual threat.

The downsides of guns in a shtf situation are myriad - ammo being the primary one - it's heavy and should shit really hit the fan, would be difficult to acquire more. Having lots of guns and lots of ammo stockpiled only makes sense if you have a small army to man your stockpile because you only have two hands. Depending on the scenario you may have to bug out and guess where all the ammo, gun stockpile and shit loads of "survival" food and supplies goes when you do.

Don't limit yourself to the names I mentioned. Who do you really like/dislike watching on YT? I personally like https://www.youtube.com/user/BlackOwlOutdoors, they do a bit of everything. They even have a pretty 2-part episode on making firestarters at home.

"Welcome to Black Owl Outdoors official YouTube page. We shoot all of our HD videos in the great outdoors and our topics vary with our interests. We do bushcraft type stuff. We talk about plants. We talk about rocks. We talk about water. We talk about animals. We talk about places..."

What is the appeal of freeze dried foods? I mean, you have to carry extra water to rehydrate it anyway, unless you are 100% certain to find and filter water on the trail at the inconvenience of the stream possibly being far away from your camp. Why not just carry canned foods? They are much cheaper and empty cans really don't weigh that much or take up extra space if you crush them.

Dehydrated chili + water bottle = same weight of Can of chili

I'm not talking about mashed potatoes or pastas/ramens. What's the big idea here? Is this the next biggest meme since battoning with the mora? WTF????

I think that freeze dried actually tastes better than canned plus freeze dried doesn't require you to dirty up a kettle to prepare it or a dish to serve it in. There's no cleanup required cuz you heat it and eat it from the pouch it comes in...
>>
>>684512
Because you don't carry the water, you find it /out/
However, I usually stick to cheaper stuff from the regular grocery store

so, if I catch a possum or raccoon, I gotta deal with it myself..

I cant simply put the dirty/stinky/shit covered cage in my car and take them someone and turn them loose to be someone elses problem..

and animal control doesn't want them; and they tear up my stuff so I cant let them loose here.
