Wanting to keep honey bees for the first time this spring. Wondering if anyone here has experience. Recommendations on bee species, research websites, equipment, honey collecting methods, etc would be awesome. I live in western PA if that makes a difference for any of the above.

Alls I know is if you beekeep, bears will come. So take whatever prep and precautions seriously. Every beehive in my town was wrecked by bears last summer. It was actually kind of a big deal

Columbia omniproof Jacket

100% waterproof and pretty breathable while being plenty cheap vs competitors. I have 2 and one of them is for cycling and is never leaked. Highly recommend m8

>go directly to outdoor/sport section and look at jackets
>walk out
>do this every week once a week

You would be amazed at what you find there sometimes for REALLY cheap. It's totally random and I've snagged some great stuff. If you like helly, I see that there all the time.

Hey /out/, what is your headgear innawoods?

I have this peter grimes cowboy hat I got at a music festival for free. I wrapped a Chocolate Chip camo bandanna around it. I often keep a book of MRE Matches, a lighter, a little pocket knife, and a pencil.

Hey /out/

I currently own this Fjallraven Skogso jacket. Its a nice coat, good pockets etc but I'm looking at better waterprrofing options than rubbing it with a bar of beeswax and melting with a hairdryer.

After a little bit of googling, i cam across tincloth. Is this a viable waterprrofing option? is there any experience of using it?

as far as i know its boiled linseed oil and beeswax melted together and then soaked into the fabric.

pros / cons?

Can you not just spray some silicon-based waterproofing shit on there?
>>
>>707591

Not old world enough for op
>>
>>707584

Tincloth is just Filson's marketing name for their heavy weight waxed cotton.

Cons are it is heavy and has to be replenished at least every year if you wear the garment much. Also it isn't 'waterproof' and not even as water resistant as modern membranes like goretex. Even in a middling rain, mist gets through.

Pros are that the water resisting properties are part of the fabric rather than a distinct membrane (like goretex). This means a garment can be composed of a single layer that isn't a laminate. It also means that the water resistant layer of garment can be much more durable.

The only pieces of waxed canvas I still own are upland hunting gear. A jacket, bibs, and a vest. I can plow my way through the brambliest thicket with no concerns for my semi-water resistant clothing or skin being shredded.

Has anybody here considered buying a bunch of land and setting up a tiny home with solar power and gathering water from a stream? I'm thinking of buying land in eastern Washington and setting up a tiny house on a foundation rather than trailer, getting satellite internet, and being a semi NEET (I earn interest from my investments).

Well my dream is make lodsa of dosh and buy a large property and make a comfy large house there. Probably in the mountains.
>>
>>710302

You can buy a nice house in Washington on 10-20 acres surrounded by National Forest to also /out/ on for less than $500K. But I could buy 30-50 acres for less than $75K, build a small house for another $50K, and have more land to own. Which I figure won't make a difference if I'm surrounded by National Forests. But at least I can do what I want without a babysitter. Plenty of privacy to raise chickens, grow pot, shoot what I want, etc.

And then one day a hippy was seen wandering in the forest next to Anon's land... And the next day two more. By July 4th there were thousands. Most obvious example of why I'd rather own the land.

Get it out of the rain and into a place you can season it for a few years. You may want to wax the cut ends to help prevent water loss at a high rate, which would split it. Also, >>>/diy/

Normally like the 3rd time I trip over something or after I lose something important and can't find it.

Anthough this normally just applies to fishing for me. When I set a rod in the grass and can't find it for 20min, it's about time to call it a night.

Hi guys!
I thought it would be really cool to design an ultimate fishing box that an aspiring angler could do well with out on the lake without spending too much money!

So, if you could only own one Plano/Flambeau box with lures for the rest of your life, what would you include?
P.S. it would be great to include a picture/link to the lure and write why you choose it.

I start with a Rapala Jointed Shad Rap.
Casts far, good depth and can be retrieved with different speeds. My favorite crankbait overall - you can catch everything from small perch to big northern pikes with this lure.
>>

Check the catalog page before starting a new thread;

>>707140
>>
original rapala
mepps
williams spoons
jigs
hooks
misc crankbaits
bucktails

really depends what you fish though, I do mixed species but if i fished just pie itd be trebel hooks, spoons and cranks, for walters it would be cranks and jigs, bass hooks and jigs, ect ect

figure out what is around you and google what they bite and how to work what they bite

also unless you exclusively fish from a boat, fuck actual tackle boxes like the one in your OP. Get a cheap (or expensive whatever) backpack and fill it with plano boxes. plus then you can fit more essential shit in easily like food water and tools you may need

Hey, /out/doorsmen.

Last year I started wearing glasses as I my eyes went to shit. The frames that came free with the appointment are faggy hipster glasses, but I was okay with it at the time as long as I could replace them in the future.

Now that I've saved enough moneys, what are some /out/ approved eyewear that will protect me from the elements as well as wear and tear? Do anti-fog glasses exist?

It's like you don't want cheap, durable, frames with a wide field of view.

To answer your question though, I think there's high-impact rated prescription glasses. Although most of them look gay as hell,

Bumping for interest. I'm searching for one for urban exploring and just hiking as i moved to making videos of my travels than the boring old hundreds of photos.
Also whats the best mounting for action cameras in your opinion? I think having it in front of your chest would be the most practical but might the arms be in the way or something like that?

That's retarded because they would provide zero insulation from the ground.

What does /out/ think of camouflage? I read something recently about some new thing based off of or similar to Multicam was supposed to roll out in 2015 to replace whatever that digital-looking stuff is that the Army currently has. Which do you like most and why? Which do you believe is most effective and why? Pic related; gibbed it from Google.

I actually just started phasing out my UCP with the OCP (modified multicam) ACUs. Shits pretty great for work but I'd never wear it backpacking or camping
>>
>>707212
But as far as my favorite for effectiveness; PenCott Greenzone for lush areas, Multicam/OCP for transitional, and Multicam Arid for desert environments
>>
>>707202

Shit-tier.

>You look autistic in front of others

>You are almost invisible if you need rescue

I wear bright colors when climbing or camping outdoors, and while I agree bright, neon-like colors are tiresome, I still prefer plain natural colors to cammo.

Great for the army not so great for civilian use
