Does anyone else have really bad anxiety. does it get better. Im 22 and Im stuck in this rut... I was in University and at the end of first year I got a job 1000 miles away planting trees in the great White North... after my contract I returned home and the rest of the summer passed and I returned to school, dropped out 2 weeks in and went back to 40 hour grind . My rut is that every spring I quit whatever job im at because the day to day wares/social interaction..people complaining about co workers... celebrities, price of groceries. blah. I feel so dissconnected..panic attacks for NO REASON....
so I leave and plant trees.
When will I want a routine, when will routine not make me a nervous wreck. dont get me wrong I work at one of the greatest most generous companies ...but the other guys in their 40's are stressed as fuck too. its Costco. greatest pension, highest rate of pay for unskilled all benefits... and theyre still pessimistic. that scares me because theyre all telling me to stay for the money but idc about money if I feel like this for 7 odd months out of 12
... or are some people just not cut out for suburbs and bar chicks and doing the same thing everyday in the same place
sorry if the post is a bit scatterbrained...you get the point though

tl;dr Is it possible to be happy in the stale 9-5 world we have made for ourselves. (if youre single and dont mind being a bum)

Existentialism. Start there. The more you dig the worse it gets, no cure bro, I've been in the state you're describing for 8 years now. See you on the other side.

I've lived and worked rurally all my life (27 now). Since leaving the daily forced social interaction of education I've slowly become more and more detached as the years go by. In my work I speak to maybe 2 or 3 people a week for a few seconds at most and can go for days where I'll speak to no one but my old man for 5 minutes about work related stuff (we have a small agricultural mechanic shop). I dread heading into town and even more to big cities, it's not that I'm scared of it, I'm just so unused to it. Social skills are certainly something you can lose.

Idk if there is a general thread for /out/ locations or not.

Are there any good places to go /out/ in Virginia for 5-7 day fishing trips? Looking for some place that allows dispersed camping but is within a large lake or river for fishing. Tired of hiking through Southwest VA (Skyline Drive, GW&J National Forest) and only seeing small creeks.

I'm also in Virginia ( near DC, right by the point of the triangle shape in the top) and looking for a good place to camp.

Not sure if I should go to a trail and just walk into the woods though, I'd prefer some uncharted woods but I also don't want to step on a bear trap

There is this secluded lake in the GW forest outside of Harrisonburg. I haven't been there but I was looking on google earth and it seems like the perfect place for camping/fishing.

Hi I was wondering I could share a survey related to my class: conservation biology. A big section of this covers habitat conservation and environmental concern. I would really appreciate an opinion! This is my final project and I need as many participants as possible. Thank you for those who do help out!

Don't know if these threads are common or not...but I currently only have eighty dollars in my account.
Is it plausible to live in my car in a city like Denver or Rapid City (biggest cities near me) and live okayish?
Would I have enough time to survive on this amount of money until I get a job at McDonald's or Walmart to get more income?

Also stories of similar experience or just general poor travel advice.

Yes it is plausible that you could

Yes, these threads are extremely common.
>>
>>705404
Does that $80 give you enough fuel to drive to Denver or Rapid City? If those two are the closest to you, you're going to need gas money.

What about food? How comfortable are you going without for a couple days? Or dumpster diving?

Can you currently qualify for unemployment or are you a NEET?

How do people actually enjoy going to campgrounds? I just spent a weekend at one in East Texas and it was horrible. I've always gone hunting for 3-5 days and brought a tarp and sleeping bag. That's my ideal version of camping. Staying at this shitty campground was awful. You can't even leave your site for a hour to hike or fish without some fucker stealing shit. There's always drunk people yelling in the distance. The nearby streams were cluttered with trash, beer bottles, etc. Are all campgrounds this messy? Keep in mind this was a free campsite on a National Park. I would expect better than this.

Bespoke camping tarp vs cheap-o wal-mart tarp

Hi /out/. What are your opinions on expensive bespoke camping tarps like the Kelty Noah vs. cheaper all purpose tarps found at wal mart?

Obviously they will be lower quality, but do they work well for cheap camping?
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>705301
Dont pay extra for a fucking tarp. I have a walmart tarp qnd it does exactly what a tarp is supposed to do. Im surprised they didnt call it tactical
>>
>>705304
I've never camped with just a tarp so I don't know, but thanks for the advice.

I was worried that the price would be inflated for no reason. Is there a good cheap tarp one would recommend?
>>
>>705323

I've tried $5 tarps from yard sales and $350 tarps made for camping. There's hardly difference. Camping tarps are designed to be more light weight. Just get a 9x5 tarp from Lowe's, Wal-Mart, or wherever. "Camping tarps" are no different than tech companies putting "for gaming" on their shitty products to make it sell. Shilling out a few hundred bucks for a lightweight tarp isn't worth it.

I will start.
Plov (some english tards call it pilaf)
INGREDIENTS:
Rice about 100g
Chicken or pork +- 200g
1 big or 2 small carrots
Onion
Black Pepper crushed
Salt
Tomato souce or ketchup
.....
So just cut the meat in small cubes and fry it to get brownish then add chopped carrot and chopper onion salt and pepper and cook a bit more until onion gets golden brown then throw it all in pot add some water and rice on top of the meat and boil until rice is ready. If u have enough meat on bottom of pot it will not burn the rice so dont stir... Add ketchup and enjoy.
>>
>trap an animal
>kill it
>stick it's meat on a stick
>cook it over a fire until it's hot and crisp

Bringing your own meals is for women and children. The most you should bring is protein bars and/or beef jerky.
>>
foil packs

beef carrots potatoes salt and pepper wrapped in aluminum foil and put in the coals (careful w/ your wrap technique b/c all the juice will leak out and that's no bueno)

curry:
put curry powder/chili/coriander/garam masala/mustard seeds/whatever u want in oil until it browns slightly

then dump a whole shit ton of ginger, garlic, onions, chilis, lemongrass in the oil and mix it around until the garlic browns and it becomes hella fragrant

then add the protein of your choice and cook until it's not quite done

add some liquid and put a lid on that sucker for ~10-15 minutes, stirring every once in a while to make sure the flavor isn't stuck to the bottom

serve over rice

when i'm hiking i like to use dry ingredients and stuff that won't spoil i.e. veggies and legumes

make some chili or something. put some quinoa in your life, it's super good with asparagus or brocoli and vinegar, soy sauce, almonds, maybe a little bit of lime juice for that tang

why not catch a fish and cook that bitch? a novel way to do so is to (after cleaning) pack it in clay/paper mache type of thing (easy to make if you have a newspaper laying around) after stuffing it with herbs, nuts and garlic, maybe smear it with some olive oil inside and out to facilitate the cooking and the flavor, then bury it under a campfire. v. tasty eats my dude

Footwear thread here.
Your advice on keeping your shoes in great shape throughout the wear and tear.
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Condition and polish your boots.
If it's starting to separate somewhere, get it glued by a shoe repairer before it gets worse (friction between two separated surfaces wears them out and this means harder to fix).
Don't dry your fucking boots in front of a fire or heater.
Get soles replaced BEFORE they wear fully through, unless you like paying to get the midsole and insole repaired too.
Stitched on soles are overrated, modern glued are bretty gud.

>T. Shoe Repair fag
>>
How does one condition their boots? And how should I go about drying them if they get wet? Obviously you can leave them in the sun but what if it's cold, cloudy, or raining
>>
>>705051
>condition

With leather conditioner or saddle soap

>dry

Dry the outside with a towel. Pull out the insoles and stuff in an old sock filled with either dry rice or cedar chips (you can get them cheap at the pet store)

I want to try to survive 30 days in the woods. My challenge is to only choose 10 things to carry with me, excluding a med kit and hunting rifle for defense against any dangerous animals. I won't use it for hunting and won't take from any animal I would have to kill with it. What should I bring?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.

Sounds like fun senpai, is this your first time doing this challenge?
>>
Fishing equipment, because that's the easiest form of sustenance in the woods.

And a cell phone to call mom and dad after you realize the enormity of your error not packing in a shit ton of food and give up after 3-7 days.

I go camping every weekend in the Summer, but to campgrounds. I always bring a tent and other easy mode items. This time I plan on camping on my Grandmother's land. They own about 50 acres in the National Forest in Southwest Virginia. I've done similar camping trips but nothing ever this long.

that much i have been able to figure out

from what i've read it seems like the romans under Caesar mostly wiped out the druids (outlawing their practices etc), and since the druids themselves never wrote down anything (their teachings were delivered verbally), all we have to go on is the accounts of others and their observations of the druids

i might be completely wrong but that's what i've come up with from researching around a bit
>>
>>704805
Yeah. Thats all true. If they built stonehenge then they probably had some great celestial knowledge

I'm heading out west at the end of March. Planning on going to Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico. If I want to hike a mountain, will the trails still be covered in snow?

northern NM will have snow above 9000 feet prolly and lots of mud below that number.

Thoughts on Maxpedition's new line? I've been impressed with all their other gear (own 3 different packs) How about these for quality bug out bags that don't make you standout like a sore thumb? Especially in an urban environment.

Sure, it's smaller, but 3V gear has a sling bag thay is sure as hell cheaper than maxpedition.
If i could afford maxpedition I would buy maxpedition, though.
>>
>>704627
I have a pack with that exact sling design from them. It's a neat little thing, but if you put any kind of weight into it, it starts to grate on your shoulder a bit. The ability to unclip a single buckle and swing it across yours chest to be accessible is nice, though. I mostly use it as my motorcycle pack- keeping tools, spare spark plugs, water, snacks, stuff like that in it.
>>
Can someone tell me why you would choose a single sling over two? I don't really understand.
