Are there any /out/doorsmen who have a horiculture hobby? If so, what do you guys like to plant?
Pic related. I've always loved planting peppers, but i've never had much success.
>>831099
Oh didn't see that. Thanks anon
>>831094
I basically do horticulture as a job. I'm a plant pathologist (plant doctor) and do lots of field experiments and breeding work. I've done herbs of various kinds, tomatoes, potatoes, apples, cassava, and squash.
Check your soil pH and drainage, peppers are very picky but you can amend your soil
What that? Should eat?
>>830843
That depends on if you like terrible stomach pains and the shits.
>>830843
Basic rule.
If you don't know if a plant/fungi/animal is safe to eat, don't eat.
Risk outweighs potential reward.
>>830843
I'm pretty sure thats psilocybin. but don't eat that untill you sure 100%
Walking straight 21 days outta into the nowhere.
Whats your favourite protein source durng a hike?

DUDE HOLY SHIT
Is it okay for people to forget to clean up after themselves?
in montana it doesn't matter, but most other places they should really de-redneck the area before they leave
>make campfire here
>live rounds fire off everywhere
lmfao
>>830755
>over $5k of spent ammo on the ground
I guess it is a better hobby than smoking.
I'm in need of a good pair of hiking boots can anyone recommend me some?
I'm in the Appalachian Trail area in Virginia and usually hike every week if that helps with the type of boot.
Fuck boots homie, that's from olden days when people were afraid their foot was gonna catch on fire if they hiked anything steeper than a 9 degree incline. If you hike as often as you say, your ankles are strong enough for trail runners or at least a high top. Remember: 1 pound on the foot is like 5 pounds on the back. Weight matters, fuck boots, pic related.
Good cheap pick is the Merrell Moab. If you want higher tier look at pic related. Go Oboz or Keen if you have wide feet.
>>830617
Thanks for the info but what are boots used for if not for hiking?
Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question I'm used to just getting handmedown boots but my last pair finally died and I actually have the funds to buy some new footwear.
>>830629
Boots are still the dominant footwear choice for most hikers. However, if you're not dealing with overly rocky terrain, or if you walk / hike / play sport regularly you will be fine without boots.
As the other guy said, a pound on the feet is 5 on the back. Boots are unnecessarily heavy if you've got strong ankles. I hike in regular trainers because 1) they're cheap to buy/ replace and I already have them on hand for day to day use too, 2) far lighter than boots, 3) although not waterproof, most boots I've had give up in conditions that are very wet anyway. and you're stuck with heavy water logged boots. Trainers take on water too, but are lighter when wet and typically dry quicker.
Fuck boots, just wear your runners/ get a pair of ultra light salomons.
Has /out/ ever tried birdwatching? What is it like?

Hey /out/ I need a helping hand here. Whats the best resource.
I've been reclaiming wood from local park (the wood is all naturally felled trees) for projects like walking sticks, cutlery and shit (hoping to make a bow soon).
The trouble is I now fuck all about wood and it's properties and how to identify trees.
Is there a decent cheap resource? I'm ideally looking for a series of PDFs I can check from my phone.
Here is the wood stripped of it's bark (yeah sorry I didn't think about asking you guys till later). The twig is there with the leaves, it looks like ash but the leaves are asymetric
This may help you:

Shit Photo but this is the felled tree
It's Friday /out/... Is your pack ready?
>where you goin?
>what are you staying in?
>how long are you going for?
>how heavy is your pack?
>how far is the spot from the car?
>what's the plan for dinner?
>what's one thing you are bringing that you will never use?
>what are you forgetting?
>what's one thing you will use even though you don't have to?
See ya Monday!!
Either go to the beach or stay at home watching the Olympic games. During this time of the year it's a huge clusterfuck to go /out/ here because few places and everyone and their cousins need to upgrade their facebook with new cool photos.
How I wish sometimes to be an Aussie, Canuck, Yank or Ruskie so I can go /out/ to places where there's no one.
>>830290
>where you goin?
JAWJUH
doin a mini-ruck on the trails around my neck of the Etowah river
>how long are you going for?

>how far is the spot from the car?

>what's the plan for dinner?

>what are you forgetting?
I CANT REMEMBER
>>830518
10 miles is a great halfday
Does /out/ have any weird rituals/superstitions before heading out to the great outdoors?
>>830203
I always tell someone where Im going, how long I plan on being gone, and give them a general idea of my itinerary.
>>830203
Double check that I have all my gear.
My gf insists I fap a load into her mouth before every ATV ride I take, but she's a Wiccan so, muh essence and stuff.
Hey /out/
I'm flying out to Yellowstone on Monday to meet my parents. I'm bringing on a carry on bag and my purse only. They are not very /out/, they are staying in an RV at a campground and plan to sight see with tours or something.
I really want to go fishing, hiking, etc. I won't have any transportation or anything. How can I do /out/ stuff
thanks guys
>>830064
to add: my parents have my fishing poles and tackle box in their RV
>>830064
r u a gril? pls respond...
you can fit a 3 day pack as carryon if you try. I used to take my 5.11 rush72 as carryon all the time.
but you should probably just enjoy the time with your parents and go do stuff with them.

Op will surely dead.
Calling Canadabros. I was randomly browsing Google Street View when I found this photosphere about halfway up Saskatchewan all by itself. I couldn't find any information about this area of Saskatchewan and I was surprised because I thought that part of Canada was most flat grasslands. This looks like something out of the US southwest covered in snow.
