Got a new laserstrike and want to go test it in the woods tomorrow.
Mostly aspens and lodgepoles.
Any suggestions on easy/first time bushcraft things to make? Obviously a fire is #1.
You talkin about the esee?

Make a shelter, complete with notched and roped joints. Make a spear. Baton 2 or 3 logs just cuz.
Don't know if this is the board for it but does anyone know what kind of spider this is?
golden orb weaver. nasty bite if you fuck with them, but they're pretty hard to piss off.

Greetings fellas
Who here has fruit trees or is interested in getting some planted on their property?
Are hoodlums an issue for you messing with your food machines? With the drop in bee activity have the fruit bearing plants been affected?
In autumn I've got some fruit trees coming my way, they should look nice and make some delicious produce in a few years.
>With the drop in bee activity
You brainwashed faggots will believe anything Al Gore says

Anyone here rollerskate?
I'm confused as fuck and looking for a good pair of rollerskates that will allow me to travel long distances with minimal effort, and don't cost me a kidney or two. Thanks.
Long distances would be problematic with skates.
If the surface you're traveling over isn't smooth, all those tiny bumps shake you like a baby and raise hell on your knees and hips. Any sticks or twigs or rocks in the road can also make you fall.
I'd recommend a bicycle, just don't be a douche about it and nobody will heckle you.
Best place to get /out/ in the 918?

Depends what you want to do. For an outdoor amusement park I think the obvious picks are Zion and Yosemite. For a real outdoor experience maybe Denali?
Texas fag here with plenty of overnight experience, but mostly in the heat. Wondering what sort of gear I would need to survive 32 degree nights (somewhat comfortably). Might be worth mentioning that I have very very little body fat.
You won't need some ridiculous low-level degree sleeping bag.
If it says 40F it'll be fine in 30F.
If 30F it'll be fine in 20F
if 20F then 15F
this is based purely on experience during cold weather related outtings.
I used to love warm weather but loath it now due to all the ticks, mosquitos, chiggers, spiders, fucking crawly bits and bobs. fuck that.
Just bring a neck cover, a warm fleece hat, a hand warmer or two and some hot-chocolate and whiskey.
Cheers.

If you mean to survive as in a minimalist point of view, you can do it with regular clothes and a fire just like brian robeson
Do foxes have an instinct to not eat toads? Because despite the toads good camouflage, a foxes would eventually spot many toads, and they can easily catch them. And if they didn't have any such instinct, they would bite the toad and likely maim it. If every fox had to go through the learning process of experimenting with eating toads, a lot of toads would die or have their fitness lowered.
So maybe:
Lots of baby toads get eaten by foxes, and the adults that survive end up getting ignored.
why would they eat toads when there are tastier things running around?
>>834485
>why would a carniverous animal take advantage of a readily available food source that requires little energy investment to aquire?
I don't know...
>>834491
I'm pretty sure toads are poisonous, or at least extremely foul tasting. They also piss and shit all over your mouth if you try to eat them alive. The one in my OP image has a white stripe running down its back, which seems like one of those "warning, I'd you eat me you will regret it" signs. The toad is also slow, makes fairly audible noise when across the forest floor, and lacks defenses such as teeth or claws, so it would make sense that its main defense is its inedibleness. Yet at the same time, the toad is very well camouflaged, so its foul taste is apparently not enough to protect it, unlike the skunk for example, whose foul Oder spray is so powerful that it can afford to have big white visible stripes that serve as a warning to predators, and it also walks around pretty brazenly, not seeming to be watching its surroundings very intently.
Why can't we just buy dogfood like dried chicken strips for hikes and stuff? It's just dried meat, what is the difference between this and jerky? It's a 5th of the price, atleast in my country
Someone tell me why I am retarded
>>834432
You can. Some people do that for emergency food so no one will eat it unless there is an emergency. Bad idea though.
Health standards are normally less strict for pet food than human food, but it really depends on where you live and where it comes from.
You should look into making your own jerky, it is really simple and you can tailor it to your tastes.
Gee, I wonder why? Maybe because... It tastes like fucking shit? Huh, who'd a thought?
>>834436
I live in Denmark, so I guess the standards are high. A little bag of jerky is like 8-9 dollars here, so can't afford that shit. I compared at the store, and the vast majority of ingredients that I knew what were, were the same. And will look into making my own
>>834437
I haven't tried it, but I figured that might be the case. How do you know though? Why would they intentionally make it taste shittier though, even unseasoned meat is tasty
Does anyone know of a good travel bike? I'm trying to get a 12 speed kinda like the related photo, but I don't know of any good brands or where to look. Can anyone help?
>>834431
Surly long haul trucker amd themall city space horse are two off the top of my head.
I'm doing light tours with my kona sutra ,not the best bc only one chain ring up front.
Watching prospectors and cant understand what keeps out from doing that? Do you need some sick licenses or something or what is the problem? I talk about usa where there is something to find not like where i live mud is the best you can find
Because it takes a special kind of someone to fuck around in the dirt looking for other kinds of dirt. These people don't go out and enjoy the outdoors, that's just where they work.
I'd rather have a steady paying, relaxed job with retirement, benefits, air conditioning, and other people. Going /out/ is something to do when you go on vacation, otherwise it becomes the norm and isn't special
>>834410
But there are so many self sufficiencyand run away posts that why isnt prospecting a considerable source of income for living?
>>834413
If you want me to tell you to go become a mineral hunter, go for it.
Just realize if you're basing your knowledge on what it's actually like solely from the show, remember it's a show that's been heavily edited to be TV "entertainment" and your results may vary.
I'd take into consideration your inability to form a coherent sentence and do some soul searching before you make any kind of decision
Hi guys,
looking to make my first diy speargun. Looked around on the interwebs and while I found a lot of helpful threads and videos about the subject I couldn't find actual schematics. Does anyone have some speargun schematics maybe?
As this is my first try at this and also my first go at precise wood/metal working (made some easy furniture and an ugly drum smoker plus a couple of little things) I'd like a good plan to follow to get into it and then take it from there.
Thanks in advance and also any other input is much appreciate aswell!
Cheers
also /spearfishing/ General?
I would try >>>/diy/
Thanks, done that aswell. But this is my home board and this is an /out/ topic, I think and I've sometimes found /diy/ not to be as helpful as this place. Also I'd love to hear some spearfishing stories.
But thanks again for the hint!
